Didnt know it was two rounds today, but doubt they were both played in any case cos of the downpour. It is outdoors isnt it? Really frustrating that no one has details - typical LTA couldnt organise a p!ss-up in a brewery. Im working in Watford now which is only 15 mins away from Hatfield and am free tomorrow and weds from 2.30 so will be going - it would be nice to know what was going on though. I phoned the LTA for address details fro Wimbo pre-qual last year and the girl i spoke to exclaimed, "Ooh is that this week" Sometimes I really do wonder TheBoiledEgg May 13th, 2002, 08:56 PM Hatfield is outdoors on Green clay LTA are totally stuffed up, no idea whats going on. Go Jane/Anna in doubles:D bluepastures May 16th, 2002, 11:26 PM For anyone planning to go to the tournament this weekend (like me!), there's no trains between Welwyn G.C and New Barnet because of the train crash last week. From Kings-X you have to go to New Barnet, then get a "rail replacement" bus from there to Brookmans Park. Hopefully, the weather won't be quite as wet as they're expecting for Saturday. It's a shame I couldn't go today!! That the match lasted as long as it did had much more to do with Syssoeva's all too regular lapses in concentration, than any noticeable raising of the standard from Pichet. Syssoeva played some excellent tennis at times, and in isolation I think that would be enough to beat O'Donoghue, however O'Donoghue must have a chance tomorrow as over the match, her standard is more consistent. O'Donoghue V Scheepers A much better match than the first semi-final. The players were very evenly matched, but O'Donoghue seemed to have considerably more stamina in the final set. It is noticeable that O'Donoghue complains about line-calls much less than Sysseoeva than does. Could this be crucial tomorrow. Doubles semi-finals Boulykina / Syssoeva BEAT Marois / Scheepers 7-6, 7-5 Hawkins / O'Donoghue BEAT Krastevitch / Pavlidou 6-4 6-0 So the singles finalists will also meet in the doubles tomorrow too. Marois and Scheepers were actually leading 5-2 in the second set, before nerves got the better of them and their postion worsened very quickly with the Russians winning 5 straight games. Nicoleke May 18th, 2002, 10:46 PM Congratulations to Virginia Pichet for reach the " semi finals " ;) !!!!! Ekaterina :( now give up 10K's its no good for you giving 2 bonus pts to others well done Jane...... she got 10 pts here for tourn anabel May 19th, 2002, 03:32 PM :bounce: :bounce: JANE :bounce: :bounce: paul_masterton May 19th, 2002, 05:02 PM JANE!! :hearts:  :bounce: Jane/Anna lost in doubles 76(8) in the 3rd set Paul D: bluepastures May 19th, 2002, 07:21 PM Todays matches: Firstly it was a much more pleasant day than yesterday, warm and sunny, compared to yesterday which was cold & windy Singles Final: Starting at 11am, Syssoeva cancelled out a first game break of serve immediately in the following game and then holding her own serve to take a 2-1 lead. Not surprisingly, this gave Syssoeva a confidence boost (and she always strikes me to be very fragile in that department) and she won the next 4 games to lead 5-2. In the next game however, there was a close line call, which went the way of O'Donoghue. This seemed to be a crucial moment in the first set, as from now on O'Donoghue persisted in making each rally that bit longer. Syssoeva wasn't in a mood for long rallies, and hit some stupid unforced errors out of sheer impatience. O'Donoghue won the next 4 game very comfortably to lead 6-5. For the next game however, Syssoeva steadied herself with some powerful serving to take the match to a tie-break. This tie-break was very close, but eventually O'Donoghue's more reliable & consistent return of serve enabled her to win it 8-6. Syssoeva's coach Natalia Egorova will be extremely worried by Syssoeva's total collapse in the second set. Her heart really didn't seem in the match, and that is always likely to prove fatal against a non-stop worker like O'Donoghue. Syssoeva's only game in this set was a purely academic one to take it to 5-1, before O'Donoghue won the next game and the match. Doubles final: Syssoeva seems in many ways to prefer doubles matches. Maybe this is because there she has a doubles partner to keep her confidence. Whilst Syssoeva is clearly the better player technically and is more experienced than Boulykina, Boulykina seemed to be the motivating driving force of the pair. This was emphasised by after losing the second set, to level it up at 1 set all, Syssoeva looked really down, and the pair's serve was broken in the first game of the deciding set. However the energetic Boulykina proved a little too much for Hawkins & O'Donoghue to cope with (despite some wonderful net play, especially from the agile Hawkins) and the Russians reached match point at 5-4 and 40-30. Having missed this the level of their game slipped somewhat over the next three games and the match went to a tiebreak. Having been so close to defeat seemed to spur the British pair on, and they looked to be heading for victory at 6-4 up. Having lost this matchpoint, fatigue finally began to take its toll. This was shown by Jane's first double fault of the match to take it to 8-7 for Boulykina/ Syssoeva. From this position, all remaining points went with serve for the Russians to win 10-8. I did take some photos today and yesterday, but I probably won't be getting them developed for a couple of weeks. TheBoiledEgg May 19th, 2002, 07:30 PM thanx BP for the report, it does sum up Ekaterina why she hasn't quite made it. She was expected to do alot better when she was a kid. Monica_Rules May 19th, 2002, 08:08 PM What a great win for Jane she'll get a career high ranking now!:D Lets hope she can take this kind of form in 25k's and even further:D bluepastures May 19th, 2002, 10:26 PM Oh, I forgot to mention earlier, but it's Irina Boulykina's 18th birthday tomorrow, so congratulations to her. Also the score in the doubles was 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (omitted from my earlier report) to Syssoeva/ Boulykina) | |
