View Full Version : What's happening to UK cheesy pop?

We all like to dance to a bit of cheese when we're pissed and then cringe about it the next day with our hangovers

but what is there to dance to at the moment? chico time? :o

i miss steps, s club 7, and of course the spice girls...as 'uncool' as they all were, they released some great and catchy tunes that would leave us humming for days on end and had countless UK single number ones. No-one needs to take a pill to dance to their songs, they give you a natural high of ecstasy anyway

Lets analyze:

Girls Aloud 1st two albums were good, but they're fading. Their last single scraped top 10

Atomic Kitten won't find much success solo (hello jenny frost 'crash landing' :o )

Rachel Steven's 2nd album was barely average.

Solo Spice Girls are gone (mel c and geri's last releases were embrassing)

H and Claire have dropped off the planet. Lisa Scott -Lee last song 'Electric' was tragic.

Kym Marsh flopped

Sugababes are fab, but they'll probably split, they're just not the same without Mutya lol.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Natasha Bedingfield seem to have vanished.

Jamelia's is concentrating on motherhood.

Liberty X aren't the same anymore.

So posters, is pop coming to an end?

Cheesy artists added by other posters:

Girls Aloud aren't really fading. Two top 10 singles and a top 20 album isn't bad, but still, 'Chemistry' deserved to do so much better than it did. See The Day was a top 10 Christmas hit, which isn't bad. Biology came in at number 2. There are at least 3 potential great singles they could release though.

Rachel Stevens' second album was a complete flop, but, it was a great album. Seriously. :o

Sugababes - Don't know what's going on with them

The Spice Girls - I hope they realise they're pretty much nothing on their own, but as a group they're dynamite. :p

All the rest suck. Natasha was doing well in the US not so long ago.

I sadly have to agree :o God knows why it didn't succeed cos it is actually a fantastic piece of pop music. I can only assume people didn't buy it cos of who did it and so they assumed it would be S Club all over again, when in fact I'd say it's more Kylie-style

Although I am very ashamed to admit it, I enjoy listening to Rachel Steven's 2nd album a lot :tape: ;)

It didn't succeed because it's Rachel, naturally. All girls are jealous of how good looking she is, and know she's a complete bitch, so, refuse to buy her music. I Said Never Again was in my top 5 singles of 2005.

Don't be ashamed to admit to it on the board. Save that for real life. :p

I loved Steps but 5678 is quite possibly the most ridiculous song ever. I can't imagine what made them release it as their first single - 1997 wasn't that crazy :tape:.

He had about two lines in 'Say you'll be mine' I think. Although he sounded suspiciously identical to H.

The rest of pop music is cool though, I do enjoy Crazy Chick  plus you can't get much better cheese-wise than the 80s, they were the best! ;)

True it could have all of the Corrs! I had to laugh when she showed me the pictures though cos when she started to say "oh I've made out with one of the Corrs..." I completely assumed the brother and started to interrupt her saying how I thought he was gay  Then she was like 'no not the brother, the lead singer girl!'

In this thread Westlife were mentioned in a vaguely positive light...something I can't allow to stand! ;)

Westlife are musical awfulness itself, with a bunch of songs which are either...

a) Dreadful sub-karaoke cover versions

b) Vomit inducing ballads

c) Both of the above

Westlife make The Nolans seem like The Smiths! :)

Tacky pop has its place and I have a fondness for some of it myself, but Westlife are this hideous awful thing...

Worse I think they KNOW they are completely rubbish and are just whoring themselves out regardless.

My idea of a hell would be Westlife teaming up with Clff Richard...that would be some kind of 'perfect storm' of vileness.

the only good thing about atomic kitten was their name.

but....they were such a good variety of cheese

their song ''if you come to me'' is great, you have to heart it

He had about two lines in 'Say you'll be mine' I think. Although he sounded suspiciously identical to H.

he had a tiny little solo part in 'here and now' although on their live tour claire had to sing it with him :o

and for the record, H is totally gay

He got the name because it stands for hyperactivity. He was hyperactive at school so they all called him H

on the more serious side, he actually has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder)
no joke

why are all saints not on your list, btw? the only acceptable excuse is that you don't consider them cheese.

LOL. I've not watched my Spice Girls live in Istanbul video for years either :tape:.

Claire was the one that used to freak me out. She seemed able to open her mouth unnaturally wide - a bit like that guy on the old advert for the reach interdental toothbrush if anyone's old enough to remember that.

i have that istanbul video too :o

i used to love claire's mouth when she sings, you could see all her teeth and could even see her tonsils, if you looked closely enough ;) i'm surprised she has a voice left, she knew how to belt those tunes out :D

You could see them even if you weren't looking closely :scared:.

Lisa was my favourite though - maybe because they gave her less lines .

she used to make funny facial expressions when she sang too

she used to cock her head to 1 side and her mouth twitched when she sang

How can Atomic Kitten be at no.9. I don't mind a bit of their stuff but 'Whole Again' is just tepid.
