History:
The city has been known under different names through time:
Cularo when the Allobroges (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allobroges) built strong walls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defensive_wall) around the small town in the 3rd Century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Century).
Gratianopolis after 380 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/380) when the Emperor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Roman_Emperor)Gratian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratian) visited the city and had the walls improved.
After the collapse of the Roman Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Empire) the city was part of the first Burgundian kingdom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgundians), until it was taken by Clotaire I (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clotaire_I), king of the Franks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franks) and a son of Clovis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clovis_I). Later on, it progressively passed into the possession of the Carolingian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolingian) kings, then the second Burgundian kingdom of Arles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Arles) and finally became a possession of the counts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dauphin_du_Viennois) of Vienne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vienne%2C_Is%C3%A8re), whose title, "Dauphin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dauphin)", gave the region its traditional name: Dauphiné (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dauphin%C3%A9). Grenoble was the capital of the Dauphiné, a province of France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_France) since 1349, when the last Dauphin of Vienne sold the region to France, on condition that the heir to the French crown use the title of Dauphin.
Grenoble (Occitan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occitan_language): Grasanòbol) is a city and commune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commune_in_France) in south-east France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France), situated at the foot of the Alps (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alps), at the confluence of the Drac (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drac_River) into the Isère River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Is%C3%A8re_River). Located in the Rhône-Alpes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rh%C3%B4ne-Alpes) région (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9gion_in_France), Grenoble is the préfecture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pr%C3%A9fecture) (capital) of the département (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9partement_in_France) of Isère (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Is%C3%A8re). Population of the city (commune) of Grenoble at the 1999 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999)census (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Census) was 153,317 inhabitants (157,900 inhabitants as of February 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004) estimates). Population of the whole metropolitan area (in French: aire urbaine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aire_urbaine)) at the 1999 census was 514,559 inhabitants.
The tournament:
Surface:Hard
Previous Winners:
2002: Sybille Bammer AUT d. Virginie Pichet FRA 64 64
2003: Karolina Sprem CRO d. Sophie Lefevre FRA 75 75
2004: Martina Müller GER d. Aravane Rezai FRA 75 61
2005: Mervana Jugic-Salkic BIH d. Karen Paterson GBR 63 61
Out of the quali Sybille Bammer won that tournament after coming back from her baby break. In fact it was her first tournament in more than 2 years and beat players like Vedy, Rizzi, Le Bescond, Klösel and Pichet. Top seed Sophie Georges lost in the quarters to Anais Laurendon.
At the beginning of 2003 Karolina Sprem was nearly invincible. Without losing a set she won and defeated Laurendon, Jolk, Xie, Jurak and finally Sophie Lefevre who surprisingly reached the final. Top seed Jana Nejedly lost her first round match vs Capucine Rousseau. The chinese girls didnt play that convincing here, Nan-Nan Liu lost 06 36 in round 1 vs Vrljic. Yan-ze Xie at least reached the quarters but had no chance vs Sprem. Severine Beltrame had to play qualies and reached the quarters
In 2004 Martina Müller played her final vs a certain Aravane Rezai who was pretty unknown at that time. Out of the qualies where she already beat Yevgenia Savransky or Pascale Leroy, she also beat Misic, Heitz, Rocchi and Widmer to reach the final. Martina Müller was too strong and only had problems with Rezai in the first set. Anne Kremer played here who came back from an injury and reached the QF (36 63 16 vs Müller). Top seed Nathalie Vierin surprisingly easily lost her second round match vs Laura Rocchi.
After some great tournaments, Mervana Jugic decided to play 10000$ tournaments again, which was very smart. Only Claire Feuerstein in the SF was able to compete with Mervana. All other opponents got trashed. Karen Paterson with her big service reached the final with good wins over Korzeniak, Greau, Widmer and Jurak. Segolene Berger gave her comeback after some years off

After a 2 year break she's back!
Former top 200 player who's only 23 and had her best season in 2003 (the year she quit the tour) with wins over Llagostera Vives, Parra Santonja, Beltrame and Birnerova. Got a WC in Roland Garros MD where she lost in 1st round against Pennetta 64 64 and played Wimbledon and US Open qualies (won one match there). Has other wins over Golovin, Pelletier, Pin and Cohen Aloro.
I changed the winner. Since Selima is not here. I pic Pemra Ozgen :)

I were 3 days to renoble and i sew some matches and I tell you some more intersting matches :
Virginie Pichet b. Sylvia Montero 5/7-6/2-6/2
Virginie leads in the first set 4/0. Syliva win 2 games and Virginie leads 4/2. She had had few break points for leading 5/2 but Sylvia came back to 4/3 At this game Virginie served and leads 40/0 and she did one "ace" but the arbiter said 'fault" but Vivi and Sylvia sew this point ace but the arbiter didn't change her jugement : result Vivi did 5 errors and Sylvia win this game. Sylvia takes 5 games and she lead 5/4, Virginie came back to 5/5 and she had had few break points but Sylvia play more than de begenning and she win her service. At 5/6 Virginie served and she had had point for playing the tie-break but at her 4th set ball Sylvia win this first set very electric. And at the second set Virginie recontrate win easily 6/2. The third set was re-electric with the younger arbiter. After almots 10 arbitratation's fault in this match Vivi and Sylvia arbitrate themself and when the "arbiter" said something false the two girls rectificated and they offered the point. the attitude of the two girls was very exemplary.
Matei/Ozgen b. Kobak/Kuzmina 6/4-7/6(5)
The second set was very interesting. Kobak/Kuzmina leaded 5/0 and at this moment to the match Matei/Ozgen win game after game for came back to 5/5. The points were very beautiful and the match very pleasant to see.
Haring/Pichet b. Rizzi/Baudouin 2/6-6/2-6/2
In the first set Florence et Vivi had had a lot of big faults. Marie-Perrine and Stéph were very nice and had do a beautiful points. in the second set Florence and Vivi play more and more very well and after they lost 2/6-1/2 they won 5 games for came back to one set on. In thh third Flo and Vivi continued their forcing and won 6/2.
Matei/Ozgen b. Haring/Pichet 6/3-7/5
Simona and Pemra were very impressives : she plaied very just, beautiful passings and lobs during one set and half. Flo and Vivi did a lot of faults during it. But at 6/3-3/0 in the second set Flo and Vivi play most and they came back to 5/5 but the 2 last games were won by Matei/Ozgen.
Just before this match Vivi said me that Simona and Pemra are a very great team and they are very good in double and Vivi said me that Simona and Pemra will win.
Desperrier b. Haring 4/6-6/3-6/2
This match were very nice Flo lead 4/2 in the first set but Gaêlle came back to 4/4. 2 very bad games by Desperrier and Flo win 6/4 but Flo seemed not very nice. the beginning of the secon set was very difficult 3/3. at this moment Gaëlle domintate more and more Flo end she win 6 games for leaded 4/6-6/3-3/0 with double break, and flo finally lost 2/6. Flo wasn't in this match and Gaëlle very courageaous, she ran on all of balls. Flo hurted very strong the ball but she had ahd a lot of unusual big faults.
Vivi b. Kuzmina 6/1-6/2
Irina seemed to be wounded because she didn't run, she massed her low back and when she went to take the balls she walked very slowly, she did a lot of stretchings during all the match but she didn't call doctor on the court. She had had a lot of big faults. This match was all in the same direction for Vivi.
Rizzi b. Widmer 1/6-6/1-6/3
I chosed to talk in the last this match beacause for me it is the most beautiful match especially the third set. Stéph was borne to Grenoble and all public was for here : the ambiant was excellent for this and because Grenoble love to Gaëlle because she play for this club in the France's interclubs. All points are applauded. the first set was complety dominate by Gaëlle and the second by Stéph. The two players were a beautiful attitude : they applauded the points that they did. tha the more excitent and beautiful set was the last. Steph break at beginning and she leaded 1/0. She served and she had had a lot of occasions to lead 2/0 but the courageous Gaëlle came back to 1/1. All games went to 40-40 and all games are some advantages for the two players. At 3/3 Steph break again but Gaêlle had had debreak point for came back to 4/4. and at her almost 4 or 5 occasions Steph lead 5/3. Gaëlle served and she had game point but Steph saved this and at her first match point won. In resume Steph attacke all the match and Gaëlle was a very impressive in defending she run on all balls. Steph was very tired. For me the most moment it was when Steph kiss me at the end of the match when I went to congratulate her. She is a very sympatic person Gaëlle is very sympatic to. Very nice two girls for this great show.
