Damir Dokic claims Jelena is cashed up
Friday January 13, 11:25 PM

Damir Dokic has scoffed at claims his tennis playing daughter Jelena couldn't afford to pay her coach, claiming she paid him $1.3 million to stay away from her.

Jelena Dokic, who is back in Australia for the first time since her controversial departure in 2001, had claimed that she could not afford to pay coach Lesley Bowrey's wages at the Auckland Classic.

But her estranged father claimed that he had a copy of a sponsorship deal showing Jelena received $5.3 million from racquet and clothing companies in a deal that expired last year, News Limited newspapers reported.

Damir Dokic claimed his daughter gave him the money last year in what is believed to be a divorce-style settlement and that he could not believe she could be broke.

The renegade tennis father, who uprooted his family from Australia five years ago, also apologised for his actions and for mistreating Jelena.

Jelena, who will play in the Australian Open on Monday, is currently trying to rebuild her career and has said she does not want anything more to do with her father.

maybe that was the last $1.3m she had? that would show how desperate she was to get rid of him.

WTA should reimburse her or, at least, split the expense IMO.

I honestly can't believe this guy. Now that Jelena's making a comeback he apologises to her and the country, he is a publicity whore. Why are people talking to him and why do they care what the idiot has to say or what he thinks. Jelena is the one who became a tennis star and I think the world should ignor him.

He says Jelena paid him to leave her alone, then why doesn't he shut his mouth and leave her alone. Also where's her mum or family, why arn't they standing by her and supporting her. If anyone knows the shit Jelena's been thru from her dad it would be her mum, what kind of a mother would let this shit go on. She has a duty to do what's best for her daughter. She must be money hungry or very very scared of Damir. This is just so wrong, I hope Jelena comes back strong and keeps him out of her live.

When will the press realise they are aiding and abetting Mr Dokic in his
unending quest to inflict more emotional abuse on Jelena

That makes no sense as it'd be far cheaper for Jelena to hire security people for years to keep him away.

If Jelena wanted to keep him away, she could hire some former military special forces as they often work as bodyguards when they leave the military. Damir may think he's tough but there are people a lot bigger and scarier than him around. ;)
