Damir Dokic claims Jelena is cashed up
Friday January 13, 11:25 PM
Damir Dokic has scoffed at claims his tennis playing daughter Jelena couldn't afford to pay her coach, claiming she paid him $1.3 million to stay away from her.
Jelena Dokic, who is back in Australia for the first time since her controversial departure in 2001, had claimed that she could not afford to pay coach Lesley Bowrey's wages at the Auckland Classic.
But her estranged father claimed that he had a copy of a sponsorship deal showing Jelena received $5.3 million from racquet and clothing companies in a deal that expired last year, News Limited newspapers reported.
Damir Dokic claimed his daughter gave him the money last year in what is believed to be a divorce-style settlement and that he could not believe she could be broke.
The renegade tennis father, who uprooted his family from Australia five years ago, also apologised for his actions and for mistreating Jelena.
Jelena, who will play in the Australian Open on Monday, is currently trying to rebuild her career and has said she does not want anything more to do with her father.
