It may be doubles but at least Belfast's Claire Curran has ensured a British player has made some sort of WTA tour final this year. She and Liga Dekmeijere will play Domachowska & Vinci in the final. I wonder if Claire will be invited to play on the GB Fed Cup team this year.

I'm not sure if she'll be eligible this year, because she played for Ireland in 2003...

Well done Claire! Perhaps she will start to receive the recognition she deserves now...

Claire and Liga lost the final 7-6 6-3 to Vinci & Domachowska. Hopefully that'll push Claire near the top 100 mark. I'd like to see her play the Open with Liga, but think she might go back to playing with Grandin as Nathalie was playing Aussie Open singles qualies this week.

This should put her more around the 80's shouldn't it.

Curran reaches top 100 in doubles

Doubles specialist Claire Curran is set to become the first British woman to make the top 100 since the late 1990s.

The 27-year-old from Belfast, playing with Latvia's Liga Dekmeijere, has reached the final of the Canberra International in Australia.

She will progress into the top 100 of the women's doubles regardless of the result of Friday's match against Domachowska and Roberta Vinci.

Former British number one Sam Smith made the top 100 as a singles player.

Claire enters the top 100 this week as #92 :worship:

Great to see Claire make the top 100 at last. Hopefully she can carve out a decent income for a few years now on the doubles circuit.

She's not in the Australian Open draw, and neither is Grandin - I'm not sure if they didn't enter properly as there are many pairs with combined lower rankings in the draw who are not wild card entrants e.g Smashnova & Randriantefy.

Glad to see her playing for GB, looks so much nicer with long hair!
