View Full Version : Should The Australian Open Give Hingis The #32 Seed?

It would prevent a potential devastating 1st round match like the one in Sydney with Justine. It's not likely they will, but they do have the power if they want to since they can seed at their will against the rankings.

Can't. Shouldn't. Won't.

Not at all.
She hasn't beaten anyone in the top 32 so why should she get seeded in the top 32?

Hell no...that would be an injustice.

Koukalova

I thought Koukalova was #35 when Martina beat her? Close enough though.

Yeh Klara was #35 at the time.
But still even that doesn't qualify to give her a top 32 placing. It is the same for everyone who is lower ranked.

No, because she (even right now) deserve to be one of TOP32 GS seeds, and new WTA politics (see all threads about new WTA ranking system) want to interrupt right seeds distribution in future  .

No i think mirza is 32nd seed...

Why not? I think it'd be entirely appropriate. When Martina left the tour it was (at least as she claims) due to injury... She was still around the top 10 at the time. The WTA has allowed tournaments to seed players with injury rankings in the past, and, moreover, she beat Koukalova who's top 35 last week. I say seed her 32. There's precedent for it.

No, she's lucky enough to have gotten a WC into the main draw...the organizers could have made her play qualifying...

no she should sweat it out - but the time the French comes she wont need a wild card and by the time US Open rolls around she'll be seeded

Yeah, but it's not like any of those players were out for 3 years, and you have to remember Hingis was effectively retired.
