I started this thread 10 minutes ago,and already three more players have fallen by the wayside

At this rate I might as well wear a wig,get some fake boobs, and play on the tour.
They won't have any players left by the AO!!

Such a sad pathetic start to the year.

Both the WTA & ATP need to shorten the season!

What a joke! Is this just bad luck or what!

They can't even say this is cos of too much play and long season, cos season just started.

Look's like HINGIS might win AO now! lol

I would love to blame the WTA for that but when the players chooses to play Exhibition events or some clubs matches during the off-season you can't really blame them. The players must learn take it easy, especially at the end&start of the season. + use the off-season to let their bodies rest.

This is not a WTA fault. There WAS an off-season, but if players choose to play exhibitions or just don't prepare good enough (Clijsters) for the new season then that's their own fault or in other cases just bad luck

You know, the good thing for the WTA to do, is to shorten the season...

But i wouldn't really want that...

Lindsay wore strapping in her AO practice but she's obviously practicing for a reason. I think top players are going to play less and less before a slam.

Its only been going a week and 3 match days......couldn't make it much shorter.

So much for "shortening the season" to prevent injuries.....the season is just over a week in, and all these injuries.

the body has not had a chance to fully rest.
yes injuries can becaused by the long season at the beginning of the season because the end was not 3 months away.
idealy athletes at the highest level should have no strain(other than cardio on their body swimming might be good) for 3 month during the year.

I think all the injuries are made by lots of matches on the hardcourts (as far as I know playing on this surface is really hard for legs for ex.) and tennis with using too much power (less technic, more power)

Marion is not injured. After winning the final in Auckland she said that she was going to take the week off and get ready for the AO. She is just having a rest;). So thats some good news, you can cross her off your list!!
