OK this week we know for sure the WTA used the new rankings without bonus points to seed for Gold Coast and Auckland. In the Gold Coast Draw, it says Patty Schnyder is ranked #6. In the Auckland Draw, it says Nadia Petrova is ranked #7. This is all NEW RANKINGs in which Justine is ranked #8. Also Daniela was seeded #2 in Auckland ahead of Elena L which is only the case if they used NEW RANKINGS.

BUT,

http://www.abc.net.au/sport/content/200601/s1543138.htm says the rankings for Sydney are

Women:

1. Kim Clijsters (Belgium)
2. Amelie Mauresmo (France)
3. Justin Henin-Hardenne (Belgium)
4. Patty Schnyder (Switzerland)
5. Nadia Petrova (Russia)
6. Francesca Schiavone (Italy)
7. Nicole Vaidisova (Czech Republic)
8. Elena Likhovtseva (Russia)

which uses the OLD RANKINGS with bonus points, putting Justine at #6, Patty at #7 and Nadia at #8. Also Elena L is seeded while Daniela is unseeded.

This is just totally stupid by the WTA. Either use the new rankings for all tournaments or use the old rankings for all tournaments :tape: :tape: :tape: :tape: :tape: :tape:

What next, we go back to the 1995 way of ranking for seeding the Australian Open?

Either WTA is :smash: :drink:  or they have decided that after one week with the NEW RANKINGS, to get rid of them and return to the old rankings :tape: :D

is anybody surprised?

the shocking thing is that this is minor compared to other things they've done.

most likely, the people that do the rankings got it wrong last week, wrong configuration file, didn't understand the instructions, applied new options before they should, who knows.

They are not the brightest you know.

Not only this, but pretty sure
but on Monday's new ranks
they will award this yrs slam/miami/YEC pts for last yrs performances.

eg. slam winners in 2005 (650) will be given an extra 50 pts on the new ranks totals.

It's strange because in the old rankings Ana Ivanovic is ahead of Likhovtseva and should have been #8 seed with Dechy having pulled out... So either Ana pulled out too or it's some mistake.

Old ranking is better - like is JuJu is better player than Nadia or Patty.

If you ask me, real problem is that new ranking is ready for Melbourne (1st GS in season)...

Well if Ana pulled out, that would at least explain why Asagoe was promoted to Main Draw from the qualifying draw ... although I would have thought it was Sesil that pulled out due to not wanting to take another drug test

Anyway, the WTA is STUPID with rankings. They need to hire someone adept to be in charge of them. Maybe Boiled Egg should work for the WTA in charge of rankings

They did not use the latest known old rankings for Sydney qualies, so ithink they will use the NEW (hitten) rankings for Sydney MD also.

well i'm not trying to be a WTA supporter here but aint it more likely the the ABC just got the wrong information than it is the WTA has completely screwed up something so simple. The ABC has nothing to do with the tournament.

Folks...I think this is correct because REUTERS ran the news, and their good fact checkers. This must be the seeding list that Medibank is using, and released as a press kit.

Unless....nobody told Medibank that the WTA rankings are different now in 2006. :tape:
