our national sport is soccer - but we're much better at:
tennis (yay!)
swimming
Judo
Handball
Volleyball
Basketball
Shooting (as in the olympic spot with the rifles and shit)
canoes and kayaks
wind-surfing

and that's from the top of my head.
basketball is our second most populer sport and soccer+basketball have a larger budget than all other sports combined by a ratio of 2:1 (as in 33% of the budgets from the country are for nonbasketball and soccer sports)

because it's not a big sport in your country, doesn't mean its not exciting to watch!

It's not that it's not very popular in my kawn-tree. The same happens to arts, literature and women's tennis.

It's not that it's mind-numbingly boring. I'm the first to admit that nowadays football is pretty boring, even when the match is intense (which it seldom is).

It's not that cricket evokes images of twits in pith helmets and moustaches going "I say, old chap" and then turning to flog the native servants.

It's that you actually prefer to watch men in white pullovers to svelte, well-toned hotties in sundresses.

i agree with you about soccer though, it physically hurts watching that sport!

I got into football in my late teens because I needed something to talk about with the lads. It was either that or motorcycles.

But the last full match I watched must have been the FC Porto - Monaco Champion's League final. I spend months on end without watching a football match from start to finish.

Which is rather quaint, considering that I frequently watch 2-3 hours of a single Tour/Giro/Vuelta stage, something that would put most people to sleep.
