World number one Lindsay Davenport tipped Czech teen Nicole Vaidisova for future glory despite handing her a tennis lesson in her opening match of the season.

Davenport said Vaidisova was an exciting prospect after brushing aside the 16-year-old starlet 6-2, 6-2 at the Champions Challenge exhibition tournament late on Wednesday.

"She's got a great, great future, whether that's number one or number five it's hard to say," said Davenport, 29.

"But she's very young and she's already very good. If she continues to improve as quickly as she's already improved she's going to go higher up the rankings, so it's going to be exciting to see how she develops."

Vaidisova, currently ranked 15, became the first woman since Davenport to claim three titles in three weeks when she won the Korea, Japan and Thailand opens in October to take her career tally to five.

The six-foot (1.83-metre) photogenic blonde, who speaks three languages, has also stirred interest among marketers searching for the new Maria Sharapova and has been described as the "next crossover star".

But veteran campaigner Davenport warned that tennis must come first.

"First and foremost we are tennis players. With that you have to prioritise: tennis is one and everything else comes after that, and it's really a good lesson in how to balance your time and schedule," she said.
