I think going to a third set, and winning that convincingly, is a good sign for Martina.
She might just go all the way.

However, I really hope she doesn't play doubles in Sydney.

I'm so happy, congrats Martina:banana:! It was a tough battle out there, Martina made a few UFES and a couple of DFs to lose the 2nd set at 4-5, but to win it 6-0 in the third is fantastic for her:yeah: Her physical condition seems good, now let's see how she does in her doubles match later today and in the semifinal:bounce:!

I still can't believe she's in the semis, that's so great:dance: Continue Martina, you can do it:yeah: GOOOOOOOOOOO Martina:hearts:!!!

This is good for Hingis. She needs a three setter to test her fitness. Interesting that she closed it out with a bagel, though. Means she really buckled down in the third. Which could also mean she was not completely focused in the second, after winning the first convincingly.

I wonder how high up she can be competitive?
next round Golovin or Pennetta, no power there. Perhaps she will impress again.
I hope she plays Safina in the final.
I am pretty sure she can compete with Patty Schnyder.
However Safina would be a good test, to see how she handles a real good power player.
This is fun.

Hingis wins third in a row since returning from retirement

Hingis wins third in a row since returning from retirementJanuary 4, 2006

GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) -- Martina Hingis (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/3799/) won her third consecutive match since returning from a three-year retirement, beating Nuria Llagostera Vives (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/534/) of Spain 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Australian women's hardcourt championships.

The 25-year-old Hingis, winner of five Grand Slam singles titles, lost her service in the third game of the opening set -- the only glitch in a strong opening set in her third match at Royal Pines.

With the score tied 4-4 in the second set, Llagostera Vives broke Hingis' serve, then held in the next game to send the match to a deciding final set.

The players had a 10-minute break before the third set began under the WTA Tour's heat rule. The Extreme Heat policy allows players a rest before the start of a third set if the so-called heat stress index, a combination of the ambient air temperature and court surface temperature, exceeds 82 degrees.

The break must have done Hingis good. The Swiss player completely dominated Llagostera Vives from then, although Hingis needed five match points -- on Llagostera Vives' serve -- to close out the match.

Hingis, who won her previous two matches here in straight sets, retired in 2002 following a series of ankle, heel and foot injuries.

She also plans to play in next week's Sydney International on a wild card entry and the Australian Open at Melbourne beginning Jan. 16, a tournament she has won three times.

Hingis will next play the winner of Thursday's later quarterfinal between her doubles partner, Russian-born Tatiana Golovin (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/565/) of France, and fourth-seeded Flavia Pennetta (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/193/) of Italy. Earlier in the day, third-seeded Dinara Safina (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/170/) of Russia beat Anabel Medina Garrigues (http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/players/381/) of Spain 6-1, 6-
