Just watched Her coming thru the airport on the news, all alone ,towing a racquet bag. She answered some press questions pleasantly even a stupid one from radio Live asking if She must feel strange travelling without Her Daddy(or words to that effect). then She headed off with the tournament Director.

No Leslie Bowrey? I thought she was going to travel with her to Auckland.

Nothing permanent with Leslie then I think. Oh well, I hope she does get a right coach. No more Bornas. :o

Yes, she looks fantastic and fit I think. Yeah! looked so fit to me. And it is great to hear that she plays for herself and for fun only. It means she has no pressure so it gives advantage to her comparison to her opponents i think.

She's getting a cute little Aussie accent :hearts:

btw. her first round opponent(Schruff) performance last year: http://www.wtatour.com/players/playerprofiles/PlayerActivity.asp?PlayerID=190711

Well, she used to eat girls ranked around top 100 for lunch, however...

Update: It seems she will play against qualifier after all: http://www.aucklandtennis.co.nz/asb_bank_classic/shownews.php#Dokic+To+Play+Qualifier

First-round draw
----------------

* Jelena Dokic [WC] v Julia Schruff

A relatively easy opener for Jelena against the world #81, although Schruff will be a step up from the lowly opponents Jelena defeated in the Australian Open wild-card play-off.

If Schruff could get six games off Maria Sharapova at the US Open 2005, she should be able to do at least that against Jelena, but Jelena is in an entirely different head-space than when she was struggling on the ITF Women's Circuit prior to her return to Australia.

Quotes
------

"For me, it's important just to get some matches in - that's my main goal. Hopefully, I'll do that here. The first match will be the toughest. I haven't had the feel of a tournament for a long time, but I'm really looking to being here again and to playing.

"I haven't played in a long time and I'm trying to come back, which isn't easy. But I'm really happy to be playing again, and that's why I chose this tournament. I've been here before, I really like it here, and I think I can play well."

Re. the Australian Open wild-card play-off:
"I had four matches there, and that has given me quite a bit of confidence. I've been playing better and better. Hopefully, I can have a good start here."

Re. her father:
"That's a whole another story. It's been like that for a while.

"I'm a lot more mature. I've gone through a lot of changes and personal stuff that has gone on in my life. It's just made me a little bit stronger mentally as well. I'm trying to enjoy my tennis. I've got nothing to lose. I've proved I can play well. Now I'm just playing for myself and for fun."

I don't think I've heard Jelena's voice since Wimbledon 2002. She has a gorgeous voice now: an Australian accent on top of a deeper, richer, Serbian voice.

Thanks. :)

It's sad things didn't work out with Leslie and TA. But if Jelena says she can't contribute towards hiring Leslie, why would she be able to pay for a coach all by herself then? Leslie's saying one thing and Jelena is (apparently) saying another. :o
