No big changes since the 7th of november...;excepting Tamarine Tanasugarn who's back on the challenger circuit after a very poor season and a fall in the ranking (over the 150). In november she won a 50K$ challenger in Shenzen and was 2 times quaterfinalist (Korea and Australia, both 50K$ chal)

Shinobu Asagoe took the "bronze medal" to Shuai Peng who lost 6 places in the world ranking with the new system.
Zi Yan makes a Top 10 entry at the beginning of 2006, and I think that she really deserves it considering her current tennis level. Step by step, she prooves that she's not only a double specialist.
Saori Obata is up 2 spots in the Asian Top 20 (and 7 places in the world ranking) ...without playing last week (only due to new ranking system).
Suchanan Viratprasert and Seiko Okamoto benefits from the new ranking system to be part of the Top 20. They're up more than 1à places in the world ranking with the new system.

A lot of change in the Asian National Top 20: In the Top 10, most of the ranking movements are due to girls who slumped in the world ranking...:Shinobu Asagoe and Shuai Peng are both loosing 2 places and getting out of the Top 50 that's the reason why Akiko Morigami and Jie Zheng are up 1 spot with stable world ranking.
The corean Yoon Jeong Cho is up around 10 places in the world ranking (significant result: Runner up in Camberra) and overtakes Na Li and Aiko Nakamura.
19 y.o chinese Meng Yuan has played very good tennis in Australia and is up around 50 places in the world ranking and 3 in the National (she performed really well in the Australian Open reaching the 2nd round of the main draw after qualifying).
Tamarine Tanasugarn is slumping in the National and in the World ranking: due to her low ranking she has to play most of the time qualies in tournements where she was in the Main Draw the year before...so it's hard to make a lot of points.
2 new entry:
Shiho Hisamatsu who succed to reach the final round of the qualies in 2 big occasions (AO and Tokyo Tier I with hre 1rst big victory over a Top 50 Iveta Benesova).
Miho Saeki is a former n°65 in the world in june 1998, and after 3 years fininshong outside the Top 200, she's back in. On 3 occasions she reached the 2nd round of the qualies (AO, Camberra and Tokyo with victories over Top 150 players such as Alves n°145, Pelletier n°134 and Hsieh n°127).

Actually, Miho Saeki has been as high as #56.
I really hope a few of those players get out of their slump soon! :(
Last month, Ai Sugyiama could fear the young indian rising star Sania Mirza who was closed to overtake Ai to the lead of the national ranking...this month, Ai is considating her 1rst position with a world ranking lightly up (after a very good Doha semi final) and Sania lost more than 10 places in the world ranking.
Shinobu and Shuai are up 2 spots without changes in their world ranking but Akiko and Jie slumped down in the world ranking loosing points from 2005(Akiko injured and Jie loosing 3 matches in a row in the 1rst round of each tournement she played).
Aiko is strongly belonging to the top 10 now...up 2 positions in the National Ranking with a stable World ranking. Zi is up 1 position. Both of them overtakes korean Cho who's down 3 spots (and more than 25 places in the world ranking: she lost in the 1rst round at Memphis 2006 unlucky to play eventual champion Anna Lena Groenefeld whereas she was QF in 2005. She also retired against Casey Dellacqua in Las Vegas Challenger 1rst round).
From 11 to 20, we can notice Shikha Uberoi's improvement, back in the Top 150 and up 2 places in the national ranking (she succeeded to qualify in Doha Tier II event with a good victory over n°117 Kateryna Bondarenko).

A lot of ranking movements this month for Asia!
Jie Zheng is up 3 spots in the national ranking and ack in the WR top 50 after a quater final in Miami. She ousted n°21 Nathalie Dechy and n°18 Anna Lena Groenefeld before falling to french star n°24 Tatiana Golovin. That was the 1rst time that Jie xas reaching the QF of a Tier 1 event. She's 4 spots from her ever best WR.
Li Na is up 4 places in the AR and 13 in the WR after a 4th round at Indian Wells where she ousted n°39 Iveta Benesova en route, loosing to n°8 Elena Dementieva. After that, she played at Miami reaching the 2nd round loosing to n°4 Maria Sharapova.
Shinobu is down 7 places in the AR with only 6 places loss in the WR. That shows how fierce the competition is between the asians!!
Akiko is also strugling with her tennis and down 3 places in the AR and 7 in the world with 1rst round straight loss in the USA (Indian Wells and Miami). She needs to find confidence with no victory since the beginning of the year!
Meng doubles the record: top 10 AR and top 100 WR breaking! That pretty unknown 19 y.o player starts to make noise: at Indian Wells, she reached the 3rd round as a qualifer with victory over n°64 Akiko Morigami and n°38 Catalina Castano before falling to n°21 Dinara Safina. In Miami, she once again qualified for the main draw, loosing in the 1rst round vs n°39 Marta Domachowska.
Good progression for Tian Tian who's up 2 spots in the AR and closed to be back in the world Top 100: she reached the 2nd round of the main draw at Miami loosing to n°26 Martina Hingis.
Cho is down 3 places in the AR and out of the world Top 100 with only one tournement played in Las Vegas $75K challenger where she lost to n°183 Casey Dellacqua after retiring.
Ryoko is up 3 places in the AR and equals her ever best world ranking. She competed on the US challenger tour. First in Orange $50K wherer she made it to the main draw 2nd round after qualifying (upsetting qualifying Top seed/n°127 Henrieta Nagyova before loosing to n°121 Yvonne Meusburger). Then in Redding $25K, she reached the SF falling to n°159 Anne Keothavong.
Rika is down 3 places in the AR and 25 in the world with very poor results at Indian Wells ans Miami.
16 y.o Yung Jan is the monthly revelation at n°18 in the AR. That young girl played on fire on the oceanian tour: runner up at Gosford $25K loosing to n°128 Jarmila Gajdosova and winner at Melbourne $25K upsetting n°168 french Mathilde Johansson in semi final. She's got an impressive 2006 win/loss record at 13/3 and represents one of the asian biggest hope.
Shikha was one step from the exit in the AR Top 20 loosing 4 places in the AR and 26 in the world. She lost in the early round of Indian Wells qualies unlucky to play top seed/n°83 Maria Elena Camerin. Her loss at Orange $50K challenger against n°174 Akgul Amanmuradova is much more desapointing. This month she lost the Indian Wells 2005 points (she reached the main draw 2nd round as a qualifer).

It's a very weak month in general for the Asian Girls...most of them are regressing in the WR.
As a consequence, some of them with stable ranking are up in the Asian Ranking like Aiko who is overtaking Shuai and Na. Same case for Zi who's overtaking Akiko and Shinobu (the biggest slump of the month...she's completly out of confidence...and she's now closed to quit the Top 100!)
Tamarine is back in the Asian top 15 and up 2 spots in the AR after a QF at $25K Poza Rica challenger losing to 2nd seed/n°138 Nagy and a 2nd round at $25K Coatzacoalcos retiring to qualifer n°430 Craciun. Despite those results she lost in the 1rst round of all the tournements she competed. I read in a thred that she has been suffering from a mysterious virus since a couple of weeks.
The best rise of the week is dedicated to a new entry but not an unknown asian girl in the Top 20: she's back at n°18 with 13 places up in the WR. Miho Saeki. This 30 y.o and former n°51 in the world in now competing on the ITF circuit. She made 2 times the 2nd round this month: 1rst at $75K Dothan losing to n°191 Perianu and 2nd at $50K Lafayette falling to promising french qualifer n°300 Fedossova.
Revolution at the Top Asian!!! Ai is not the leader anymore!! Na overpassed her and for the 1rst time China had a Top 20 player (august 2006).
What about her summer: Runner up at Estoril tier IV (ousting 2nd seed/n°33 Dulko and 7th seed/n°50 Loit before retiring vs 6th seed/n°49 Zheng. SF at Berlin Tier I (victories over 12th seed/n°20 Ivanovic and 4th seed/n°9 Scxhnyder before losing to 2nd seed/n°4 Petrova). QF at Stracbourg Tier III at Strasbourg (def.3rd seed/n°23 Dechy before falling to 8th seed/n°35 Jankovic). 3rd rd at Roland Garros (ousted 27th seed/n°30 Chakvetadze before losing to 8th seed/n°10 and eventual runner up Kuznetsova).QF at wimbledon (def.5th seed/n°6 Kuznetsova and 10th seed/n°13 Vaidisova before falling to 2nd seed/n°2 Clijters) and 4th rd at the USO (upsetting 1"th seed/n°14 Pierce before losing to 3rd seed/n°4 and eventual winner Sharapova.
Jie Zheng also played well this summer reaching her ever best ranking n°27 (august 2006). She won Estoril Tier IV (ousting Top seed/n°19 Pennetta en route). At Berlin tier I she beat 13th seed/n°21 Dechy to reach the 3rd rd. She won a 2nd Tier IV Tournement at Stockholm overpowering Top seed/n°11 Myskina in final.
Veteran tamarine is on the way back to the Top 100 with a 3rd rd at Wimbledon (her favourite tournement) as qualifer. She also compete most of the time on the ITF circuit to improve her ranking.

[QUOTE=fredbdx;9119634]WTA ranking as of November 6, 2006
Aiko is back to the Top 5 in the asian ranking afte reaching her ever 1rst wta final at Tokyo Tier III.After that she also made a QF at Bangkok Tier III. She's now 4 places from her highest world ranking.
What a end of the year for Tamarine!! She was runner up at Bangkok Tier III...the last time she reached a final on the WTA tour was in 2002! During that wek she beat a coule of in form players such as n°52 Jackson, n°53 Bammer and n°54 Bremond. After that, she won the changhai $50K challenger.
Good fall for Tian Tian who captured her 1rst WTA title at Tashkent Tier III. she reched her ever best ranking at n°81.
Top 100 debut for Yung Jan born in 1989 who mixed up ITF and WTA events in october with impressive results: first she reached her 1rst SF o nthe WTA circuit at Tokyo upsetiing 2nd seed/n°27 Sugyama. She also won Tokyo $50K challenger and was SF at Beijing $50K.
Shiho is breaking the Top 150 after winning 2 $25K challengers at Hibaraki and Hamanako (with a victory over Top seed/n°136 Takao). She also reached the SF at Tokyo $50K.
Junri is the best WR progression after reaching her 1rst WTA QF as a qualifer (victory over n°54 Castano). She also reache dthe SF at Tokyo $50K upsettingn°141 Takao en route.
zheng jie will be down more as she needs to spend 1 to 3 months to recover after her knee operation :o i am sure shuai peng will be in top 20 as she doesnt have much pts to defend :p
Poor Yung-Jan, her ranking will drop to 60 after she lost an another first round in WTA tour again. I am really worring about her form in her singles match.
The cut off is still around 210+
Superna should be desapointed with Na losing her 1rst place, down 10 spots in the WR due to too many points to defend in 2007 at that period.

i am not :p my heart is like a steel because of shuai peng and tiantian sun's recent performance :p

There is so little hope in that top 20. Either veterans past their prime, journeywomen, or talented headcases.

Exactly! Why haven't you included Akgul? Also Shvedova and Voskoboeva who are both now playing for Kazakhstan?
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are both classed as Asian countries :)
Current WTA Rankings -
Amanmuradova - 81
Shvedova - 91
Voskoboeva - 94
So, all three should be in the Top 20. They are also listed in the official Asian Tennis Federation Rankings. (See attachment for last released rankings)

Kurumi is impressive :)
Well if you're talking about Aiko Nakamura, she retired last summer, so this logiacal
As far as Kurumi is concerned, there's no question about her talent and shes' about to break the top 100 before her 19th birthday. The only question with those Asian girls is that there're omst of the times struggling to confirm and reach the next top 50 goal. When I see Kurumi
measurements with a 5'2 (1m58) high, I'm wondering if she'll be able to develop a game to compensate the powerfull 5'8 or more rising girls.

Exactly. I am waiting for a tall talented Japanese youngster. It seems all the promising ones are tiny - Nara, Doi, Inoue, Ishizu, etc...
BTW, Aiko hasn't retired. She's had 2 knee surgeries...

what about galina voskoboeva, she will now be rocketing up this list
Definitively a revival year for Galina.
Starting the season at n°621, she's been breaking the Top 90 before the end of the summer!
Let's have a look to her season:
1 Title:
Casablanca $25K challenger: As n°317, she won the tournament ousting 5th seed/n°163 Floris en route.
1 SF:
At Baku $220K: She made it to the SF upsetting 2 seeds in her run n°54/5th seed Niculescu, n°13/2nd seed Pavlyuchenkova before falling to 7th seed/n°55 in form Pervak.
2 QF:
At Pattaya city $220K: she reached the QF as a qualifier ousting 3rd seed/n°25 Kirilenko on her way before losing to 8th seed/n°44 Errani.
At Toronto $2,05M: Same run as in Pattaya, after qualifying, she performed amazingly well upsetting 9th seed/n°9 Bartoli and 5th seed/n°5 Sharapova before falling to 4th seed/n°4 Azarenka.
For sure Galina in back and not far from her previous best ranking as Top 70 in 2009.
