Can't see Bammer reaching a Tier 2 QF again. Her game is defensive, her serve is shaky and her movement looks uncomfortable. But big :yeah: for her due to her tournament and year. Proves you can be an out-an-out counter-puncher and get by in challengers you can have good success.

This match reminded me of Myskina vs Meusburger at Fed Cup last year. Yvonne run around and gave Myskina few errors and Nastya couldn't handle it for a while but had too much class in the end. Sybille's seems more agressive than Yvonne but Austrian tennis really does need to pray that Paszek can have success since the other 2 won't reach Top 50.

Least that match made me certain Nadia won't win this week :D

To Bammer's credit she did play a good match. Very steady and consistent. Her volleys are just :help: though. Nadia played well when she needed to and almost choked that last game away. This makes me confident that Patty can win if she gets past Dani today. Good luck in the SF, Nadia!

LINZ, Austria Oct 28 (Reuters) - Nadia Petrova moved a step closer to securing a place in the WTA Championships on Friday, beating Austrian wild card Sybille Bammer 6-2 3-6 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Linz Open.

The third-seeded Russian has twice stood by at the season-ending event in Los Angeles in case a player withdrew from the eight-player field at the last moment with injury.

"Hopefully, third time I'll be working," said Petrova after achieving her 50th win of the season.

Petrova was stretched all the way by her 93rd-ranked opponent and she had to recover from 1-3 in the final set before claiming victory.

Bammer began well, but after failing to win a point that would have given her a double-break and 3-0 lead, she claimed just three points in the remainder of the set.

Having left the court for treatment for a right abdominal strain when down 5-2 in the first set, Bammer offered a far stronger challenge in the second.

She broke to lead 1-0, and although Petrova levelled at 3-3 by winning a 25-stroke rally, the Austrian left-hander took the next three games to level the match.

In the final set, Bammer broke to lead 3-1 when Petrova made a backhand error, but the Russian steadied and won the next six games as her opponent failed to maintain her momentum.

Not a good match from Nadia.

She just allowed Bammer to play her sort of match. Long loopy rallies, relying on consistency to win. Lots of UE throughout the match.

what the matches showed me. The Russian girls just play their game. If it doesnt work they dont know anything what to do. Very poor imo esp Douchevina and Vesnina. Obviously its also hard to play a lefty for them. They have start to improve their skills and bring in more variety. Just smashing the ball over the net isnt tennis

Petrova seemed shaky. Like many other players, she seems dangerously close to shooting her bolt for this season.

Anyh00, best thing about the match was the social realism touch added by Bammer's tattered old shoes, with holes the size of a moon crater.

I nearly shouted at the screen "Can anybody help that poor starving woman? She can't even afford to buy some proper tennis shoes!"

OMG...some of you people are :retard:! Nadia won today, thats all that counts. Don't you know that its the sign of a good player when they can win when they are far from there best. You can't just write of her chances of a winning because of one match. If we did that, then Vee should never have won Wimbledon after how she played against Pratty. Nadia won, fullstop.

Congrats Nadia, prove all those haters wrong babe:kiss:!
