Richard Williams on the pressures of being a tennis father: "I think I could really capitalize off Venus and Serena if I had more time. But I really do not because I do a lot of work for the Chinese peoples and the Japanese peoples and so on, representing them. (1) At the press conference after Venus beat Maria at Wimbledon this year:

Q. What about taking advantage of the big groundstrokes that you hit and trying to end the points a little earlier with volleying? Today she had success coming in at times. If you were able to come in and get more easy points with the volley.

MARIA SHARAPOVA: Thank you. Thanks for the coaching (laughter).

(2) Andre Agassi on the changes in his attire over the years:

'Yeah, the beginning I, you know, sort of wanted to bring something to the game that would maybe impact those that don't normally watch it, maybe to draw interest to the game, to the fans out there that might not necessarily ever have taken the time to appreciate the sport of tennis. You know, now, I'm at the stage where I've just thought to myself, "If I dress like my wife, maybe I can play like my wife" (laughter). Been working, by the way.'

from ASAP Sports:

THE LIPTON CHAMPIONSHIPS - 1998
KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA
March 28, 1998
V. WILLIAMS/A. Kournikova 2-6, 6-4, 6-1

Q. Anna said that you didn't beat her; she lost. What would be your response to that?

VENUS WILLIAMS: I think that usually when people do lose, they beat themselves generally. The story of every match when someone loses, the person makes more errors. When I lose, or when Anna lost today, made more errors than what I did. I think you have to hit some winners, but you also have to make errors to lose a match.

I think you have to hit some winners, but you also have to make errors to lose a match.
lol at venus sucking upto anna cos annas way hotter :haha:

AnnaK :worship: she was so much more talented and way better looking than the williams- such a waste

So much more talented? Ummm she never beat either one of them in a match. She surely wasn't wasting her talent in 1998- 2001, when as I just pointed out she managed to beat the sisters a combined zero times. The prettier thing...well everyone's entitled to their opinion but let me give you my new motto i developed just a few days: Everyone has a right to their opinion, but some people need to be told their opinion is stupid and lacks all reason and logic and they should never ever let words come out of their mouth :)

Why not here:

"Our nation's founding commitment is still our deepest commitment: In our world, and here at home, we will extend the frontiers of freedom."

"The terrorists are fighting freedom with all their cunning and cruelty because freedom is their greatest fear. And they should be afraid, because freedom is on the march."

"If America shows uncertainty or weakness in this decade, the world will drift toward tragedy.
This will not happen on my watch."

"Three days after September the 11th, I stood where Americans died, in the ruins of the twin towers. Workers in hard hats were shouting to me, 'Whatever it takes.' A fellow grabbed me by the arm, and he said, 'Do not let me down.' ... I will never relent in defending America -- whatever it takes."
"The liberation of Iraq was good for the Iraqi people, good for America, and good for the world."

"Ronald Reagan won America's respect with his greatness and won its love with his goodness. He had the confidence that comes with conviction, the strength that comes with character, the grace that comes with humility and the humor that comes with wisdom."

Asked during the Australian Open what she knew about the host country, Venus Williams responded: "Australia was started as a penal colony in the beginning. They went on to become patriotic Australians, got their own accent, moved away from the British and here we are."

Q. Why are you wearing two watches?

SERENA WILLIAMS: Why am I wearing two watches? I always have -- I have these rubberbands on right now. I always have two watches since like last year in Australia. I used to have a green Eggs & Ham watch, now I have a Scooby-Doo watch. I Love Scooby-Doo. I watch it all the time.

Q. You like being a journalist?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I do. Maybe one day you will see me in here asking questions for the Tennis Monthly recap.

Q. Do you talk about your writing on the tennis court? What's best question that you would ask yourself?

SERENA WILLIAMS: I haven't yet done an interview with Serena, so we will have to wait and see.

"She didn't play very well? Who cares? I don't!" (laughs)
- Barbara "I'm the reason for the 32 seeding system" Schett who was ranked no.22 in the world at the time

After defeating Barbara Rittner 6-0 6-4:
"Oh I only lost those games because I couldn't concentrate anymore. Playing Barbara Rittner is so boring!"
- Martina Hingis

And one of my personal favorites (along with Hingis' "What is compassion?" statement):

After beating Kim Clijsters 6-2 7-5 at Indian Wells:
Interviewer: Kim told us because she has an ear infection, she couldn't hear the ball bounce. Wouldn't that be an enormous handicap to a tennis player, not being able to hear the ball bounce?
Nathalie Dechy: Yes, and not being able to see the ball also, I guess (laughter).

Frank Sinatra:

Lindsay Davenport after beating Kournikova at Amelia Island

Interviewer: Lindsay, Anna said she had trouble adjusting to the wind. She said that if that weren't a factor she would have won today.
Lindsay: She can say whatever she wants. The point is I'm into the next round and she's in the hotel room packing.

Referee: I think it is.

"I don't think she (Serena) was so hurt. I watched the match. She was getting her ass kicked. I thought she was a complete wimp about it. I played her in mixed doubles the next day and she was diving for balls, so if you have a recovery time like that, then...you do the math.
