"It's not the end of the world. This past season was very good for me and I did everything to make it a successfull one. As for this match, my opponent played really well. It was a very difficult match. Now I'm going home. I'm free now. It was a very long season and I feel I got tired from travel and training. I just need some time to spend with my family".

--------

So has she decided not to come to LA?

 Maybe she will go home and then see if she qualifies

But I hope she realizes that she will probably have to go to LA (as an alternate)

she probably knows she won't qualify now. it's probably a good thing for her confidence because if she was playing this poorly, sharapova, davenport, and clijsters would be hanging batgels all over her. i'm saying this as a dementieva fan. she needs to get it together for next year.

So many of the girls on tour have such a negative undertone in their comments as of late. They (Juju, Momo, Lena_D) all sound beat-up, tired, and relieved the season is over.

They are all taking the fun out of the Championships this year. I swear if it wasn't for Kim I wouldn't even go this year...

She just want to rest....and if she does need to go to LA she will go ...even if she loses all her matches...

its been a long season for everyone ,the Championships in LA are dismal anyways ,last year the schedules were ridculous and the crowd grey and apathetic ,the players are weary and most will have to make yet another long haul flight to LA.

Elenas played solidly almost every week since USO ,and gone deep into most of the tournaments ,its been a lot of tennis to play ,as have a lot of others ,but kims had a few weeks off ,and Sharapova too ,so i think it best for Elena to start her vacation now ,they need a rest ,god knows I do and I am only watching!

Hopefully she can have a good 2006 and maybe make a big one ,who knows ,she knows what she needs to do..i will support her come what may ,as far as HAVING to go to LA ,fuck it! Elenas a millionaire several times over! pay the fine and stay home ,the only way she should go to LA is if she was to play.

Speaking for myself, the YEC will be much more interesting if Dementieva is there; much less if she is not. She is inconsistent, but more likely to beat the very best players than most of the alternatives. I don't think there's a player who starts licking her chops when she knows she's going to play Dementieva. She's very dangerous.

She has to go as no.9 or 10 as well. Else - she will be fined. :)

poor WTA. it seems no one care about YEC anymore :tape:
too bad if Lena won't go to LA. she always plays great against top players. she has a chance to make SF

Doesn't Venus qualify now? Unless next weeks points come off from Philly.... Oh well, it is a long season and since Fed Cup, Elena has kind of looked a little tired. Her highlights of this year were Fed Cup and beating Kim in Filderstant.

Las years final (which was on a Monday) had over 11,000 people in attendance. The total number of spectators was over 55,000, which made it the largest ever attended tennis crowd in Southern California. And as for the comment about the crowd being apathetic- COMPLETELY FALSE. The crowd was in full force cheering on Serena, Maria, and Lindsay. There was little doubt who the crowd favorite was and they were extremely vocal in their support, particularly with Serena. The sad part about the Championships is that they seem to be just starting to 'catch on' and build a really good following and now they're up and moving them again. Although it may be for the best, considering so many of the top players could care less about the event this year. And with so many players expressing their desire not to participate, coupled alongside Serena's absence, the event might have another bad year here at Los Angeles. Although the LA fans came out in droves last year, you still get the sense that a lot of the fans came out to see certain players- I hope that's not the case and that the last year here they do really good.

Did u see the crowd in Madrid? They are passionate as hell, even it was mostly for Rafa. They have a nice arena and good crowd support!! Maybe in 2007 LA will get the championships back, because this year they have 4 players to really promote hard: Lindsay, Kim, Maria, and Venus. I hope for a good YEC this year!!

hold on folks, doesn't the YEC offer a million dollar first prize? It's not that bad a tournie at all and it will offer some exciting tennis for sure. I hope so anyway since i have already bought my tickets.

If there are two withdrawals Lena is still going to qualify in the Top 8 and you can bet that she will add something to the event. And as an alternate, i can think of worse ways to make 50,000$ than flying 15 hours, hanging out in L.A. for four days on company expense, and then flying back home.

guess thats true ,plus the fans can see her and maybes get her autographs ,say what you like about Elena ,shes inconsistent and can play brilliantly and badly in one match ,but shes never boring! Shes a great character ,very animated and adelight to watch ,even during todays dissapointments I saw several drop shots ELena got to despite being so far away ,the speed she has is incredible ,amazing acceloration!

Since I started following tennis, the YEC has always been my favourite tournament. All the top players together for one week.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR @ players being injured and tired. Its not their fault I know, but the YEC has taken some bashing in the past 5 years. I want it to be the spectacle it could and should be.

Can you stop the Justine bashing already? Why do you even care if she's at the WTA Championships? Isn't she suppose to be a chearter/loser/clay court specialist that hasn't done jack worth mentioning in the past 5 years,
and her indoor skills are crap anyway.

F*** for ruining the WTA championships, bitch can't do anything right! No wonder ever journeyman, top 16 hates her ugly face! Right?

*Elena will go if someone won't make it in the draw. The impression from this interview is that she's not going to kill herself to play Philly nor dream anymore; but if there's nice withdraw somewhere she'll be thrilled about it. A sort of unexpected reward you might say. :)

What you talkin' bout Willis? I'm not bashing Juju if anything I'm giving her a compliment. I think the Championships would be better off with her than without her. I'm by no means a fan of hers and I admit I love to see my favorites beat her, just like I love to see Justine beat up on Maria- it's good TV. Since the YECs are my main tennis outing I was amped about this years Championships. Unfortunately my fav (Serena) wont be there and a now a few of the top other girls have made comments about not wishing to attend (or at least sounding indifferent about the tournament).

My wish is for health and that's not just extended to Serena. I want all the girls on tour to be as healthy as possible, which is why I understand why Juju, and others, may not attend. I still can't help but be disapointed, especially with this being the last year the Championships will be held here.
