First time in a few years that anumber of players are retiring who are still doing well as well as a few going into 'hiberanation'.

Maggie Maleeva, Zuluaga, Farina Callens Svensson and Schett have already announced their retirments.

Alicia Molik is having a break for a year and Lindsay Lee is headng off on Mat Leave.

Unoffical retirment notices have come through at various times of the year for Vento, Smashanova and now Randrianteffy.

Questions on retirement still linger for the spainish speaking trio of Vivi, Polly Surez and Martinez.

Rita Grande is also a big ? on her future.

Anyone else going to hang up the raquet?

Krizan? Dhenin? Frazier?

Looks like Dragomir has finished up as well.

Okay, let's look at the South Americans:

Zuluaga- retired
Diaz Oliva- retiring in 2006
Suarez- retiring in 2006 probably
Vento-Kabchi- possibly retiring at the end of this year
Fernandez- probably retiring soon
De Los Rios- probably retiring soon

who else is there to go for except for Catalina and Gisela? it's very depressing...probably has a lot to do with there only being 1 tournament there a year.

Clarissa Fernandez is commited to play some challengers soon. So maybe she isn't retiring. Else I don't know why she would bother to play challengers in november.

Why is Maria Jose Lopez retiring? She was playing so well at this time last year. Dally, retiring? she is playing her best tennis as of late and after having a break for so long a few years back don't really see why she would want to retire.

She announced after the US Open and she want to spend more time with her husband and start a new family. She missed her home country so much and that's the main reason she want to retired.

Has Sammy Reeves retired?

She skipped most of the first half of 05 to get married. She came back in April and only won 2 matches between then and June. She played doubles at 2 challengers (winning one and semi in the other) in August. She was entered in Singles in both but didnt play the first because of injury and didnt play the second because she was still playing doubles at the first. She has been on entry lists since but hasnt shown. I am hoping that she'll start fresh at the begining of the year and play some challengers to get her ranking up.

after playing just a few events this year, JANA KANDARR definitely retired.

ANCA BARNA is pregnant - i guess she won't come back.

mabybe MARLENE WEINGÄRTNER. after beating HINGIS this year she lost every match she played and is out of the top 300 now. i think she has no more motivation and spirit to come back once more.

Where is Leanne Baker?

Leanne was injured a few weeks ago at a 50K in San Fran. She withdrew from doubles with Francesca (who reached the final with Haynes). She and Fran have played a couple of 10Ks in late August which I don't understand. I wish they would have played the US hardcourt season. I guess they won't be playing any slams which is a shame because they are good and need the dough.

hate saying it but if Chanda Rubin's injuries continue to hamper her, surely a retirement is on the cards. She has only played 3 matches this year  :(
