Either Benesova or Yan Zi will have to withdraw as they will be playing Gold Coast final on Saturday afternoon. The organisers will not agree to postpone 1st quali round by 2 days for them. Or maybe they both withdraw as their doubles match tomorrow is scheduled as second from 1800, so might finish after 10pm. Marta is one of the top alternates so she might well sneak into the draw. Domachowska def Morita 6-3 6-4

This was a very good match. Both players played well, and hit the ball so hard and consistently. Morita is very speedy, and Marta was playing her best. She hit so hard and hardly made any UEs. Marta could beat everyone in the qualifying draw playing like that and I think she will make it back to the top 50 at least if she keeps it up. Both these players deserved to qualify and Morita fought well and made it close but was unlucky she didn’t get an easier opponent, like most of the other players in this round.

Marta Domachowska - the first thing to note is the ripper surname. The Poles are slowly making their mark in the world of tennis and this girl, together with Agnieszka Radwanska, could be someone who causes mayhem in Warsaw in the near future. The 22-year-old made light work of French wildcard Mathilde Johansson in the first round and will look to climb the rankings in 2008. Maybe the Australian Open will get the ball rolling.

No, Ostrowski said she'll be taking in the three Latin American tourneys. Sadly, already with a ranking that would give her one of the top seeds, she will have to play the qualies in probably all three [correct me if wrong]
The second one, in Bogota, is 2650 m asl, this can be quite an experience.

Domachowska ousts Li
Sunday, 20 January, 2008
By Bren O'Brien
World No.146 Marta Domachowska has ended Li Na's Australian Open charge, defeating the No.24 seed 2-6 6-2 6-4 on Court 6.

Domachowska dug deep after losing the first set and made her way into the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, wrapping up the match in one hour and 40 minutes.

She joins fellow Pole Agnieska Radwanska in the final 16, and now plays Venus Williams for a spot in the quarter finals.

Li got the first break of the first set and raced to a 3-0 lead. Domachowska created opportunities to get back on serve, but couldn't get on an even keel, surrendering the set when she was broken for a second time in the eighth game.

Domachowska had four break points in the third game of the second set, before finally getting her first beak of the match. She followed that with another break and went on to take the set comfortably to level the match.

The Pole had regained the momentum and got the first break of the decider, but not to be denied, Li continued to rally, breaking her straight back. Both players were under pressure on serve and Li fought back from a break point to hold serve in the fifth game. But she finally conceded her serve in the ninth, giving her opponent a chance to serve for the match. Domachowska took it with an ace on match point.

Match Facts

- Li had 26 winners, Domachowska 21

- Domachowska won 88 points, Li 87

- Domachowska served eight aces

- Domachowska had 44 unforced errors, Li 35

- There were seven breaks of serve, three to Li, four to Domachowska

Venus versus Ivanovic
Monday, 21 January, 2008
By Andrew Wu

No.8 seed Venus Williams has set up a mouth-watering quarter-final showdown with Ana Ivanovic after defeating the unseeded Marta Domachowska at Melbourne Park on Day Eight.

The 6-4 6-4 scoreline was not an accurate reflection of the admirable resistance put up by Domachowska, who gave an unimpressive Williams more than her fair share of awkward moments.

The Polish world No.146, who does not even have her own page in the WTA's media guide, broke Williams' serve twice in the opening set and managed to save one match point before having her flame extinguished.

In the end, the experience of Williams, a six-time Grand Slam title winner, proved telling but she will need to lift her game considerably if she is to topple Ivanovic in the quarters.

However, this has been a significant week for Domachowska, who prior to this tournament had won just two Grand Slam matches.

Not only did she collect the scalp of a top-30 player in Li Na but she reached the fourth round of a major for the first time in her career.

Match Facts

- Domachowska had 30 unforced errors to Williams' 16

- Domachowska had 18 winners to Williams' 14

- Williams broke serve five times but dropped service on three occasions

- Williams won a higher percentage of points on her second serve than her first

Q. Your best ever performance at a Grand Slam tournament. How did it feel?

MARTA DOMACHOWSKA: Well, it was for me amazing experience to play today against Venus on the center court. Well, I hope I can continue like this all year and see.

Q. You had a couple breaks of serve in the first set with a chance of winning that. What went wrong?

MARTA DOMACHOWSKA: Yeah, I had some chances. I had a lot of chances, especially in the first set, but I didn't use them very well.

When I had the chance, then I was doing easy mistakes.

Q. How did you rate Venus' performance today?

MARTA DOMACHOWSKA: I mean, she's a great player. I was trying to do my best, but she was better than me.

Q. Do you think she's got what it takes at the moment to win this week?

MARTA DOMACHOWSKA: Well, sure. I mean, she's one of the players that can win this tournament. We'll see how it will go.

Kłóciłam się z całym światem

Krzysztof Rawa 31-01-2008, ostatnia aktualizacja 01-02-2008 00:04
Marta Domachowska – tenisistka zawodowa, polska rakieta nr 2.
To sponsor mnie pozwał do sądu.
Rodzice o mnie ogromnie dbali.
Miałam i mam.
Wiele dziewczyn to zauważyło. Słyszałam nieraz: – O, Marta is back!
Do Ameryki Południowej też jadę bez trenera.
