So Marta lost to Glushko in USO Q 26 62 36 after being up 31* in the third. :fiery: BUT my friend took a pic, so I will share. :D

Marta just doesn't play enough... She had nearly no preparation (no match I mean) before playing the US Open
That's too bad, because she had chances here. On the other hand, Glushko seems to be in good form and she defeated Lauren Davis after that, so it's probably not that bad.

The best thing is she is ambitious - and I like this about it. Most players would just stop playing while they needed to pay for themselves and has no major success for years to come. And for Playboy she claims she wants to get back to top 100 and stay there as long as she can. She is capable of this - proved it few years ago after first slump.

She plays in Doha qualifying next, right?

playing Qualies of WTAs is not the way to build pts unless you have a run deep into the WTA tournament. The odds are low She should be building points in smaller indoor tournaments like she did in 2011. Then play some WTA qualies after you have built up some points.

There's not so much ITF's in Europe for the moment, and going to another continent just to play a 25k wouldn't be really profitable. That's why she plays WTA qualies I guess, which is not that bad (one victory in Doha's qualies would have given to her 20 points).

Do dzisiaj pamiętam tą wyjątkową noc i 2 Polki w 1/8.

Maybe she won't manage to be back at her very best level, but being back to the top 100 would be great already, and she can make it actually. Her results are not that bad, today she was quite unfortunate to have to play against Kuznetsova who is playing well currently, but she has played some very good matches against top 150 opponents since last year, like Putintseva last week.

She was back (or nearly) in the top 150 at the end of 2011, but didn't play enough after that. I'm sure she can reach again this level, and if she wins some matches in the upcoming weeks, some confidence will give her a boost :)

Don't despair ;)

If she pushed Putintseva to three sets, she can win a match. Everything depends on the day. I wished she was in qualies, drawing Fręch or Pyka and winning 6:0, 6:1 ;) But it's not possible.

She can also beat both Sandra and Paula (she was always good against Polish players except one time with Piter and all times with Aga).

Plus it's a home country, always helps. Marta played some great tennis in Sopot years ago, also she played fine in Warsaw.

Btw - I think the biggest problem of Marta now is no coach, as far as I know she only has a fitness coach, but not a full time one, right? I think that if someone shown her the errors she make, she would be in top 200 now.

So Marta drew Annika Beck in round 1... well - I prefered Zaniewska, but this is not a bad draw either. They played once and it was in 3 sets (and Annika eventually won the whole event).

Also - Beck does not play well lately - she lost in round 1 in last 5 tournaments, including a loss against Wongteanchai (no. 248).

Good luck Marta! It will surely be on the center court, so I will see it on TV (since TVP Sport would broadcast all the matches from CC live).

Basically - when Ostrowski went to help her, she looked so tense, she needs to have her head back, because strikes are there! She lacks in self-confidence drastically :(

Nevertheless - she played so well at times, she just choked. Hopefully she will remain more calm for the rest of the year and will regain her confidence at ITFs.

If she considered it, she would already be retired for a few years now. She was not a favourite and she knows it. She should look at some examples who are 27-28 when they have major successes. Like Bammer - she ended her season in top 100 for the first time being 25 and her major successes came at 27 and 28 years of age. Or Zakopalova - she is 31 and now reaches her career-high.

She just needs someone who will help her overcome her mental problems, she surely has them!

Fibak is just speaking in Polish TV, he said he spoke with Marta, her sister and her mom. He said Marta is positive despite her loss, she is sure she will come back one day, maybe not to top 40, but to top 100 for sure. That is quite reassuring :)

She can be positive, really ;) Yesterday she played some wonderful tennis from time to time, until 5-3. Then she collapsed to lose the next 4 games. But it wasn't a bad match overall :)

Good to hear it that the match wasn't bad, but this is simply within her capabilities easily. I was a big fan of Marta; I simply think she has an amazing talent and when she is on anyone could be withing her reach. Unfortunately I don't think tennis was a priority for her long enough; furthermore I believe it will never be priority for her again. I'd love to be proven wrong.

The match was not bad at all.

Tennis was her priority, but she also had a court case with her ex-sponsor, some coach changes (some not made by her, but by her team). So she simply went from the tennis court to the other court.

Today she gave a post match interview in which she explained that different coaches tried to change her tennis so many times, that now she came back (hopefully for good) to Paweł Ostrowski. She said that she needs to come back to her best tennis from years back and they know each other for over 10 years. She also added that with Ostrowski she had successes in the past (which is true). She is positive, she knows there is a long way to go, but it's possible. She also said that she really blew her chances yesterday and actually she knows about it.

The worst thing is that media try to suggest she should change the coach while she just came back to the one she finds good for her...

I don't doubt tennis is important to her, but I doubt it is important enough to be a priority above sponsor disputes, above boyfriends, etc. In fact I believe Marta is "all woman" in traditional sense (nothing wrong with that) and having her relationship needs satisfied and whatever else woman needs will always be above professional ambition.

She should start playing in smaller events to find some form and confidence, like Jelena did.

Of course her smaller events should be smaller than Jelena's - even 10K for start. A lot of players stared their comebacks in ITF e.g. Dulgheru.

She will do it anyway, since her ranking is not good enough to enter WTA, unless these are qualies in some Asian tournaments.

If I checked correctly, next week she does not play, and the following one she plays in either 50K or one of the two 25Ks.

Indeed. Tennis is not a figure skating or ski jumping - you don't get points for style ;)

And especially women tennis can be erratic as we know. Apparently noone cares if someone played pretty and then lost 0:6, 1:6, because loss is a loss.

btw - Beck just advanced to the semi final and Marta won more games than Camerin did ;)

Indeed, I can agree that she is capable of much more, but (no matter how stupid it sounds) she gave much more problems to Beck than Camerin did. And Camerin won 5 matches in Katowice.

But anyway - there's no sense to think "what would it be if...". She is still there, playing doubles. Tommorow we will know if she reached the final or not :D

I read that after exho was another interview with Marta.
And she said that she appreciates work with her trainer and won't change him for another.
And also that she wants comeback to her old style of game because that was too spectacular/scenic.

Here is interview from the end of 2012:
http://igrzyska24.pl/w-zime-musze-grac-o-6-rano-wywiad-z-marta-domachowska/

Thanks for this! I did not see this interview in the past and there is one, very important answer there:

Długo można, by pisać na ten temat. Niestety…

For non-Polish speakers - she said here more or less: tennis clubs are mostly willing to earn money, not to have success of their players. She had to train in winter while being in Warsaw at 6 or 7 am and even go to different places to get a free court (so she was not sure if she gets a free court at one and the same place) and of course she was paying for herself. Also she said there is no training program or place where there would be more players who can train together (and this always gives a better motivation).

I noticed this a lot of times before as a big disadvantage for Polish tennis and I can say that this only confirms how PZT (Polish tennis association) "cares" about the players.

Some people say - yes, there are Radwańskas so it cannot be that bad. But the sisters were much luckier - they started off in Germany where their father was a coach at a tennis club and as we know - Germany has much better training conditions. Also since both are tennis players - they could practice together.

Poland was compared to Czech Rep. in this question and I must say that if we had a possibility to create some tennis centers where many players practice - we would have tons of other players in top 100-200 since there are many talents who cannot afford a lot unfortunately and they have no money to travel. I remember that there were some players who told that in case they don't have a sponsor - they have to stop playing tennis proffessionally due to lack of funds.

Marta added she was lucky she did not spend much when she had some bigger successes, as now she can live on what she earned before.

Only 2/11 BPs won in the whole match says it all (only 0/2 in the first set, so 2/9 in the last both sets :o)

Today was the withdrawl-deadline for the ITFs in 2 weeks-time and surprise, surprise, Marta is still on the list for the 50k ITF in JPN and has withdrawn from the ITFs in Europe :speakles::cheer:

She is in the MD among following players: Dellacqua, Saisai Zheng, Tammy, Sema sisters, Diyas, Noppa, Jabeur.

For getting into the QF, Marta would get 18 points, 32 for a SF, 50 for a final and 70 for the tournament win.
Hope she will get some points over there. :hysteric:

she needs 120 points to get into Top 200, around 75 points to be in top 220 to get into Wimbledon Q :hysteric:
and she has to defend 20 points from Madrid last year, so count it extra on top :hysteric:

Marta :shout: get your act together and win some points :sobbing:

Overall, she's not playing as badly as her ranking. She probably should have won a couple of the close matches this year. She should be able to get some needed pts at the Asian ITF's. Look at the Sema sisters. They garner most of their points in those events. They are examples of players who are not really as good as their rankings suggest. Marta is the opposite, partly because of the bad scheduling and just not playing enough. This is a step in the right direction.

she should have been encouraged by playing reasonably well against Beck and Candella, instead she disappears. Maybe she is going to play doubles in WTA/WTA qualifying. I don't think she is ranked high enough to play any WTA qualies in singles in the May tournaments, except maybe Strasbourg.

Well... on the other hand, she needs training. For the first 4 months she was travelling just to lose in round 1 of MD or Q. Since she came back to Ostrowski, they probably need time to repair what has been damaged for the past few years. It won't happen in a week. She also mentioned in an interview that she needs to work on her mental side, to be able to play the whole game at one and the same level.

Hopefully she'll be back on winning when she enters next tournament. Her match against Beck was encouraging :)

the mental part is exactly spot on. I'm glad she and her coach realize that. If she could fix her tendenacy to fall apart in close matches, her ranking could really improve.

Strasbourg usually has a relatively weak qualifying field so she could do some damage if she has been working hard in Spain, as it appears. I really like the fact that she and her coach are trying to address the "mental" part i.e. choking. We all know she has some great physical talent.

Strassbourgh Q
Maribor (25k ITF) MD - together with Linette and Kania
TUR or ITA 25k ITF (prio 1/2) Q/ALT - but since this week is packed with a 100k in Marseille and 75k on grass on the way to Wimbledon, she might be even seeded in TUR in MD and play as well in the MD of the ITA ITF. We will see after the withdraw-deadline.

I admire your faith in her.

I meant that after really solid training and with her permanent aim to go back to Top100, she should win that all matches and there is no doubt about it. Panova or Barrois are ok but common ... if not with them, with who does she want to win?

Panova, Barrois and Parra Santonja are all former top 100 players  There's no doubt she has the talent to beat them but she won't succeed just due to her "permanent aim to go back to the top 100"... Ivanovic's permament goal is to take back her No.1 spot, you know
She hasn't played for several weeks, and her results so far this year hasn't been very fantastic. Of course I wish her all the best, but losing to these players wouldn't be that surprising. She will surely need some patience to develop her confidence and find back her very best level anyway, the kind of things you can't do in just 3-4 weeks ;)

Up to the pt. she was down a break 3-4* I agree the stats didn't look good. But from there to the end of the match her only hiccup was when she was broken back after she led 2-0 in the second. She pretty much dominatd from 3-4* in the first. I think she can ush Parra. Parra is now ranked under 200 so she is also not at her best.

this is the logic of fans you can't really discuss with. they believe she still has a top 100 potential but at the same time she's not supposed to win against anybody half-decent.

No, that's not the point. She has a top 100 potential (she has already proved it), but she will need more than just "potential" to be considered again as a favourite against players ranked 100-150 spots above her. She has won only 2 matches this year (yesterday was her 3rd) so we can't really say she's currently confident in spite of her motivation, that's all  If she qualifies for the main draw in Strasbourg (that would be great, she was the finalist there in 2005), then it will be definitely a good start ;)

when? where? how? the fact that she used to be top 100 years ago doesn't mean (at all!) that she has a potential now to be there again. still, both her and linette need to take this opportunity, especially that q spots are rather weak.

When she played in Katowice against Beck a month ago. During some parts of the match, she was really impressive (she was up 5-3 at a moment I think) and definitely showed a top 100 level. Then she fell apart mentally and finally lost the last 4 games of the match.

Did you see that match at least? She made some wonderful shots and great rallies (especially during the second set), some things a player ranked #286 wouldn't be able to produce so many times. It just shows she hasn't lost what used to be her strenghts.

In 2011 she was also playing quite good and went back to the top 150 (or nearly) after some years of disappointment, reaching the final of a 75k and winning a couple of other ITF's... I'm not even a big fan of her but still, you can't deny she has the game to be top 100 again. And if she has been top 40 already, of course she has the potential to make a return at least among the 100 best players

adam_ads_n

She obviously still has top 100 potential - the match in Katowice was a proof.

What is more important - in her career she got three WTA finals and it was when women's tennis was a bit stronger than now, it was harder to go to top 50 or even 100. Players without top 100 potential would not achieve this in her life. Also 4th round at AO in 2008 was not an accident.

She just needs some wins, that's all.
