just a terrible loss. up 3-1 in the final set. blew two match points at 6-5* She is lower in the rankings than Sema, but Sema hasn't beaten anyone remotely decent this year. I was realy looking forward to her playing in the main draw of a WTA with some wins under her belt. I believe she hasn't even played any main Level WTA's this year. She's proved she can choke to even mediocre players. That's got to be at least the fourth time this year she's blown a third set lead.

Marta wasted at least 3 match points at 6-3 2-6 6-5*... Terrible but so usual for her  But it seems that qualifying matches were played today in indoors conditions, maybe Marta has difficulties to deal with this change.

I guess she could enter main draw now if two players withdraw... Which will never happen.

anyway, she is out of Linz Q, where she wouldn't get in anyway
she will play next week Joue-Les-Tours (50k/FRA/Hard), she is atm 3 out of MD
when she qualifies she could play the ones like pous-tio, hlavachkova, Krajicek, Amanmuradova or Dolonts (with Marta's luck, she would draw a seed anyway :o)

afterwards she will play again in France, Limoges (50k/Hard) where she is 14 out of MD

she won today over Savchuck. She plays Andrea Hlakova tomorrow. Andrea is ranked #98 and is good on grass and indoor hard, but, like Marta, can be inconsistent and prone to errors. Marta's style is not to wait for errors so she should just play her game and take it to Andrea and play first strike tennis. Andrea doesn't play a steady game, which is probably good for Marta. They'll probably play alot of short points so whoever plays better first strike tennis will win.

SERVivor
Oct 25th, 2011, 07:29 PM
she is 1-0 head to head against Hlakova. She won on clay in '07 2 and 3. Hlakova is better on faster surfaces than clay so I expect a tougher match tomorrow, but it's winnable for Marta. Marta always plays better when she has some consectutive wins under her belt, and she now has four. If you analyze her history with this opponent and her being match tough, she definately has a chance.

great win today. looks like she will play Koehler. I think the fact she beat Koehler in qualies probably won't matter too much as the match was very close. Plus, Koehler must feel she has nothing to lose as a LL. Marta needs to avoid a mental letdown after upsetting Hlakova. Marta certainly has the tools to beat Koehler again. It will depend on whether she is mentally up for the match, and whether her body is okay after so many matches the last few days.

Don't be too optimistic

I think she didn't want to play this week because it's a quite special moment, with Christmas and New Year's Eve and she probably prefered to stay at home. Plus she has to pay hotels as long as she has to stay in Australia/New Zealand, it would be more expensive and she hasn't won much money the last 2 or 3 years :o

she had GPs at *1-4, 1-6 *0-0 and *1-6 *1-3, and her only 2BPs at 1-6 1-2* 40-15, 2nd serve ...
Means, when she would have taken these GPs/BPs she might have won this 2nd set or at least made it a bit more competitive.
she made more points on 2nd serve than on 1st serve in the 2nd set, that says it all :haha::ignore:

still, it seems Barrois is back in form, and we all know she is a tricky player with deep slices and I think Marta doesn't like this kind of opponent

Well, she lost to Remondina. She will actually only be -14 points for the season. She won 6 at Hobart qualifying, but dropped 9 from last years first tournament So she was at -3. She won 40 points at Austalian Open Qualifying which put her at +37 for the year. Now, she drops 51 points because she won this week last year. So -14 for the year. That will probably drop her to about #165-170. Not as bad as it looked at first glance. Still, a bad loss today. Remondina came through qualifying at was probably match sharp. It happens quite often that a seed loses to a Qualifier in this way.

SERVivor
Feb 11th, 2012, 10:01 AM
ITF play last year is what got her ranking back to a decent level. The downside of ITF play is you have to play alot of matches to get decent points. She may realize playing so many matches last year took a toll on her body. However, her ranking is at a place where she should mix in ITF's with WTA qualifiers. Playing just WTA qualifying is a big gamble and she could tumble big time in the rankings if she does that. She could have gotten directly into Bogata, I believe but travelling to South America or the U.S. right now is probably something to avoid, if she is going to the U.S. in early March to play Indian Wells qualifying. Perhaps, there is a U.S. challenger she can play the week before Indian Wells?

Her last South America trip was back in 2009, after her AO run and she failed against Sanchez in the qualies twice and made nothing out of it  But she could have tried at least, as she would have been in the MD anyway  and playing against Cohen or other losers would/might give her more self-believe

- W Egipcie potrenują dwa tygodnie, a przy okazji zagram debla - wyjaśniła nam tenisistka.

Domachowska i Agata Barańska (903) zostały rozstawione z czwórką.

I thought Marta would beat Czink today because she has played some matches the last week and i believed she'd be sharp and I guess I was right until 6-4 2-0. Then, the Domachowska Express derailed in a predictable manner. She has got to be one of the worse players at holding a lead. If I bet on tennis, which I don't, I'd make some money betting against her every time she was a set and a break up against a decent opponent.

today's match against Pliskova typified Marta's situation. She cannot win close matches against decent players. She had match point on Pliskova's serve leading 4-5, when she didn't get the match point, she totally colapsed, winning only one more point the last two games. At least she's still winning some matches, not like some other players (a certain former no. 1 etc.)

Disagree. She practically needs to win that one match, which is eminently winnable, and the rest should be child's play.

Marta played Suaraz-Navarro close but as usual fell apart at the crucial point in each set. She was up 4-3* in the first, and fought back from 3-5 to 5-5* in the second. Apparently, she can only play good when behind. Once she breaks even or get ahead, her head explodes. LOL

I'm out of the age, that I would rebell now and say bad stuff, cause basically, they are right doing so :sobbing::shrug:

It's been ages, that she won a round in WTA tournaments, or came near top 100, so I think it's fair, even if it is my beloved girl :sobbing::awww:

I have to seriously question her scheduling, which I know others on this site have done previously. She should have played the Nottingham Challenger and Birminham WTA tournament qualifying tournaments. She could have gotten some grass matches in and improved her ranking. Instead, she plays a WTA clay tournament in Austria and loses in the first round. She must have needed or wanted the first round WTA prize money. That is the only explanation. Then, she gets to Wimbledon qualifying with 0 grass matches under her belt and of course loses in the first round. Who is managing this girl's schedule? A monkey could do a better job of it.

Marta is playing the main draw at Baku. The field is extremely weak for a 220,000 tournament and she could beat most of the players on a good day. First round is against Caroline Garcia who she beat on clay easily a couple of years ago. Garcia hasn't done much lately either so who knows. This could be a good week for Marta.
