I don't think she's gonna be back soon. I've heard her coach was saying that Marta has some "serious personal problems". It was durin Warsaw Open and maybe just a smoke to back up her defeat. You never know when it comes to stuff like that.

Adrian.
Jun 23rd, 2010, 10:20 AM
When it was during Warsaw Open, why she went to RG? Why she won a match there and fought well against Kraijcek?
Why was she then playing twice in Bundeliga in Germany?

I think she will be back after Wimbledon, as she is on the lists of the next week tournaments...

Bart77
Jun 23rd, 2010, 12:18 PM
She went to Paris coz she drop out from Warsaw pretty fast. As I'm concerned she didn't intent to go Paris in the first place. She chose Warsaw, but when she get defeated she change her mind coz it wasn't to late for the qualifications.
I did not say she's over or something all I was saying was a quote from her coach. I don't know how about you but I guess he knows more about her personal stuff. And finally maybe she just left the problems behind already, who knows? But she did not go to London so it's unclear for me too. Time will tell.

Adrian.
Jun 23rd, 2010, 09:47 PM
She took a timeout after RG, that's clear and that was a good thing done by her and her coach. I don't know about her personal stuff, but when he said that at Warsaw, I do not understand why she was going then to RG :p
anyway, she never won anything on grass. that surface isn't here's so it's nothing special she wasn't playing at London.
As she entered the tournaments after Wimby, I think she is ready to play and to make the TOP 100 before USO.

Marta was a bit sick and made a lot of UE's during the match....

Personal problems have hampered her career in the past. At the 2008 Australian open, ESPN commentator Mary Carillo said that Domachowska had gotten involved with her spanish coach in 2007. Subsequently, her rankin plummeted. In 2008 she came back strong. Now, she appears to be in love with this Polish swimmer guy. Some players play better when they're in a relationship, apparently she lets relationships detract from her tennis, the bit about her skipping wimbleton qualifying to go on vacation being an exmample. Personnally, I love to watch her play and think she has immense talent. I'd like to see her concentrate fully on tennis, or find a balance between tennis and her personal life where she can excell at both. She has the potential to be much higher ranked. She should be at least top 100.

Adrian. I know you are kind of obsessed with Marta, so I did my best to keep you updated.

First of all, I had a chance to watch warm-up of Marta Domachowska and Tatiana Poutchek, before they started, the high chair of umpire fell down near Tatiana. They were so shocked, their facial expressions were priceless! I have some photos of the warm-up, as well as of the accident. I'll upload them on monday.

As for the match, Marta got broken in the very first game, but she managed to break back and hold her service games. By the end of the first set, she had been playing a very good tennis, aggresive most of the times, defensive when needed. She started the second set pretty weirdly getting broken, but she regrouped once again, and finished the match in two sets. She is in good condition, but I guess her mental toughness is lacking at times.

We had some eye contacts during her warm-up with Poutchek, which was lovely. :hearts:

Pavly... is a tough first round, but Marta has the advantage of being match tough. She has the ability to beat Pavly.. I looked up Pavly's record and she has twice beaten Venus William, so she can clearly play. I look for a good match as Marta desperately needs to defend the QF points here from last year. She is motivated and match tough.

Jul 26th, 2010, 05:09 PM
On another note, I really hope Marta can qualify for the U.S. Open again this year. I saw her match last year against Barbora Strykova and I was really impressed by Marta's ability. From that match, the one weakness I see, and I hope her coach has emphasized the need to correct, is a hesitancy to finish points at the net. She has very powerful ground strokes, but she allows retrievers to stay in points, by not moving foward enought and putting the ball away at the net. If she could do this, she'd cut down on unforced errors as she would create shorter points.

You were right - Marta entered Grenoble as well, but she is an alternate no. 23 for now :( I guess she will move up to qualifying, but she is quite far from them.

Also entered: Linette, Piter, Kosińska, Jegiołka, Kania and Sanduska.

However I keep my fingers crossed for my new abroad fav! Nantenaina Ramalalaharivololona from Madagascar :D Maybe Marta will play with her in qualies? :D

I just hope she can improve her ranking alot this year. She is way to good a player to be an alternate for a 25K challenger.

adam_ads_n
Jan 10th, 2011, 10:26 AM
In this case it is a very wise decision to start with small challengers instead of trying to play bigger tournaments. If she wins or will be in the final of them, she would definately improve her ranking a bit, plus it will boost her confidence (as she was lacking in it in the past). I think that if everything goes right, she would have good enough rank to enter Roland Garros qualifying, and maybe be a seed in it.

Adrian.

Yeah...I was sure it's not possible. Marta was drawn, she has a good quarter:

DE GUBERNATIS, Claire (FRA)
DOMACHOWSKA, Marta (POL)

LISJAK, Ivana (CRO)
REMONDINA, Anna (ITA)

GRONERT, Sarah (GER)
GINIER, Jessica (FRA)

TAMAELA, Elise (NED)
BARTHEL, Mona (GER)

I think Bathel, Tamaela and Lisjak are the most dangerous. It's possible to have Domachowska vs. Linette final :) Marta also plays doubles (with Lykina), first round at 2 pm - they play Youlia Fedossova and Aurelie Vedy.

Marta will play Bath(21.3/25k$/GBR) after Clearwater, because I don't think she will get in in Nassau (54th ALT).
Afterwards she surely will try to get in in Monzon (28.3/50k$/SPA) but this might me though, because Monzon always was packed in the past
the next week she will have a break, then maybe she might try to fly to Johannesburg(11.4), because there she surely will get in the q-draw and that would be a 100k+H with plenty of points, but as I know Marta, she won't fly there :o

Then in europe there are a lot of good events on clay, so I hope she will play many of them before RG :)

Will there be a tournament in Poland this year, I mean, Warsaw Open?

Indeed - Nassau seems out of reach :( It's not normal that there are 5 players from top 50 and over 30 from top 100 in this field. People inside top 50 should be not allowed to play ITFs.

she is now 47th alt
but looks like nearly all girls who want to play Nassau, are still in IW singles or doubles

Can you blame her? It's RSA which isn't a perfect destination to fly. Especially since most tournaments at that time will be held in US or Europe ;)
And no, there won't be Warsaw this year. They cancelled or sth (besides it sucked) and now it's in Brussels. I'm surprised you missed a thread in GM about it.

what's wrong with flying to South Africa other than perhaps safety problems once you're there? at least no jet lag on coming back to Europe, same time zone as Greece/Balkans/Baltics, 1hr ahead of most of rest of Europe.

It's just makes no sense to me to come and play 1 tournament in this area. You know you play a couple of tournies in USA, 1 in RSA and then Europe. To me it would be pointless. The same if next week there'll be a 100K in Australia...

she also played only 2 tournaments in the usa, what is pointless as well with jet-lag and so on
Moreover 2 25k$ <<<<< 1 100k$ tournament in a timezone with no problems...

She really needs the points, so she just should try it, as I said :p

P.S.: She is at the moment 30th alt for Monzon :awww::unsure:

19th alt already, so she stands a big chance of getting into Qualies.

13th alt, but seems like the most players already have withdrawn

At least she plays Bath. So far no qualies draw available on LTA website. I hope there is at least 1 more withdrawal in MD, cause with her luck she would draw ALG who is qualies no. 1 for now.

Why "finally"? Domachowska and Lisjak are now at 2-2 in their head to head...

Timea Babos could be dangerous, so be careful Marta.
