Apr 28th, 2002, 02:40 PM
yes :hearts: but yesterday was yesterday, and
today is today
First of all, congrats to the French team and their fans on this victory, i'm not gonnna lie and say it doesn't hurt but you've won fairly enough.
Ok, first match, Mauresmo-Suarez: Paola came in strong as yesterday but Amelie was simply amazing, nothing like what we saw yesterday, no sign of any pain in her back, completely overwhelming Paola in every shot. I think Paola tried to stablish the rythm of the game as in yesterday against Testud but Amelie didn't let her, that's when Paola became erratic and Amelie got all the winners, specially with her backhands, Amelie's game looked as in her best days once again, she had a stronger first serve and came more to the net, she used a lot of slice on her backhand, so all of you Momo fans, don't worry too much about her latest slump, if she keeps playing like today, it's fair to say the slump is over.
Second match, Dechy-Diaz Oliva: I was surprised Testud didn't play on this one, didn't hear she was injured or whatsoever, in fact at yesterday's match, there was no sign of a possible ankle injury. Ok, moving on, Dechy displayed a very elegant game, she kind of reminds me of another tennis player but i'm still trying to figure out who it is; Mariana had a terrible performance today, too bad our coach didn't replace her with Fernandez like Lucas suggested, she missed a lot of shots, her serve was very weak and IMO the only points she won were the ones Nathalie missed, she's got a beautiful backhand, i'm going to start paying more attention to her from now on on the tour. There were some controversies with line calls at this match, so as you can imagine there was a lot of booing from the local crowd; one little note, at the beginning of the match Dechy was asked to take off her cap cause its logo was too shiny, she ended up using the one from the umpire; when it was all over for us, Mariana threw the racket to the floor in total anger, while there were a lot of smiles on the French bench.
The doubles match, Dechy/Loit-Fernandez/Salerni: The court was nearly empty when it started but if you ask me, it was a good match, i have to give most of the credit to Fernandez and Dechy, they were the key players in it, Clarisa served really great in several ocassions while La Pitu missed a lot of shots, also Clarisa used a lot of drops to win some important points; Dechy once again, displayed a fantastic backhand and hit more winners than her partner Loit who missed several shots and had trouble with her serve.
When it was all over the french celebration began, they opened 2 huge bottles of champagne and Amelie chased every single member of her team through every corner of the court, it was quite funny, she once again signed a lot of autographs and took pics with several fans.
I had a great time, too bad our girls lost but hey, hopefully we'll do better next year. My pics will be ready tomorrow, so be patient and you'll see some cool ones.
Sorry for being late with the report, but I HAD to take a nap, you know hehe, plus i had to find a lotion for my poor face, it got totally sunburn but only on my left side, so now i look like a clown LOL, any tips?
See ya all! :wavey:
PS: Lucas, nice to see you there, i wonder how you recognized me, was it because i was staring at you so much? :p

WELL DONE AMELIE!
NOW DEFEND YOUR RANKING!! :fiery:
saff76's report from Buenos Aires yesterday said that Amelie was not playing well and not fully fit, even though she won. Does anyone know whether she was closer to her best form today? Forget the scoreline; she *should* beat Suarez in two sets (no offence to Paola's fans).
If anyone saw the match, how impressive did Amelie look?
PS: saff and I were obviously posting simultaneously. I'll read her post!
PPS: Okay, thanks for that saff. Great to see that you got to watch Amelie playing her proper game (even if "your" team lost). :bounce:
Apr 29th, 2002, 12:16 AM
Saff, thanks for the great reports! Can't wait to see the photos!:D
Apr 29th, 2002, 12:34 AM
Hi saff76ar. I recognized you because you told me your were going with your father and in file 3 on players side. Nice to see you too:wavey:
I agree with your report. Amelie played amazing today, all her shots were very deep and Paola ( who played really well too) could not do anything.
When the 2nd match came, I was not surprised of Testud replacement, Dechy is having her best year ever and she is an all court player. I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE DIAZ OLIVA AGAIN ON COURT:o
I said yesterday she should be changed for Clarisa Fernandez, also I said before yesterday Mariana should not play Fed Cup.
When we saw the doubles match, and we saw the way Clarisa served, I got pissed badly:fiery: Clarisa is playing awesome, she is so fit, so wonderful groundstrokes, forehand, volleys, SHe has it all. THAT IS WHY thing would be different now IF Clarisa would played singles.
Anyway, I was very happy of these two days of great tennis. French team was very tough.
Amelie, a wonderful player and a very nice person. She was wearing the argentinian t-shirt at the end of Dechy match.
Sandrine and Nathalie were very nice too. Foretz and Loit also very good team, supporting their players all the time.
For me, The stars of this tie were, Amelie, Nathalie, Paola and Clarissa.
And good luck Paola and Clarisa in your next tournaments:wavey:  :wavey:
Apr 29th, 2002, 12:39 AM
I forgot to tell you, I talked to Paola Suarez today. She was next to my sit dureing the doubles match, talking with Laura Montalvo. So I got her autograph, and I ask her about her next tournaments, and of course to congratulate her:hearts: She so cute, so SHY, so sweet. Also she was with her boyfriend ( a brazilian soccer player). Anyway, I am a BIG BIG BIG fan of Paola, and I was very happy to see her today and talked to her.:wavey:
Apr 29th, 2002, 12:49 AM
Thanks Saff and Lucas for your great reports! :D (Can't wait to see your photo's too Saff! ;) )
I'm glad that you both enjoyed the tennis, but I know you must also be sad too. It's hard to loose, especially a when it is a 'home' match. I forgot to say earlier, but well done to the Argentinian team for making it a close 'tie'.

Lucas, thanks for your report, too.
saff: you and Lucas should get some kind of award for your reporting. Well done, guys. As saff knows, I'm a big fan of Amelie's so it was great getting these accounts of how she's going, seen live.
You must be aaaaaaaalmost converted to having Amelie as a fave by now, saff. :)
Apr 29th, 2002, 01:54 AM
Oh yes, Amelie wearing our t-shirt, that was soooo nice, got some pics of her in it. ;)
Yes joui, she really impressed me, i will start paying more attention to her from now on.
Btw, i don't remember who asked if Gaby was in the crowd, she was today, during the second singles match, got a pic of her too, though she might be tiny in it cause she was far away from where i was sitting. She left as soon as that match was over.
Lucas wasn't it cool, when they announced el Gato Gaudio had won in Barcelona? WOO HOOO! :bounce:
Apr 29th, 2002, 02:18 AM
Yes, When they anounced Gaudio won in Barcelona, everybody were cheering and celebrating for him. :D
Lapin, I am not sad we lost, because the argentinian team really tried to win, but I am pissed off with the coach for not changing the singles match. Mariana played awful today:o
But, You know, Here in Buenos AIres, we are not used to see these players. I am glad I was so close to them. And that is a reason for being happy.
Once again, Congrats to the Frech Team:wavey:
Apr 29th, 2002, 04:31 AM
I knew Nathalie would come through. ;)
Great photo of Amelie and Nathalie there. :hearts:
VIVA LA FRANCE!!! :D
Thanks to all the Argentinian posters for their kind remarks and the sportsmanship they displayed. It was a fierce but friendly battle - how it outta be.
Apr 29th, 2002, 08:30 AM
Thanks for you both, LucasArg, and Saff76ar, for your reports, and for your pics to come:hearts:
Glad you'll become Amélie's fans. Welcome with us
Argentinien girls will do better next year
Apr 29th, 2002, 01:25 PM
"Thanks to all the Argentinian posters for their kind remarks and the sportsmanship they displayed. It was a fierce but friendly battle - how it outta be."
I agree totally - both teams wanted to win badly and both have expert clay court players. It's a shame there had to be a losing team.
Thanks to LucasArg and saff76ar for giving us great reports! I also can't wait to see the photos.
saff76ar - I asked if Gaby was in the crowd, and believe me, no picture is too small to be posted if Gaby's in it :D :D :D
Apr 29th, 2002, 03:44 PM
I join with GoSandrine, Sonja and Mom3.....thanks for the reports and good sportsmanship!! :D
