Sugar! The cover of the DVD is far better than the film itself. This is the last time I buy a DVD based on the cover. Well, at least for a few more months.

I can't see why this isn't an oscar contender from the description on IMDB

"
... the sex in this movie was just plain gross. Don't get me wrong, not because it's gay, but because I don't need to see close ups of ANYONE'S genitals in a movie. Two guys sitting at a table eating cereal for breakfast and jacking off at the same time, together, while they eat, is just disgusting. I don't care what the excuse is, it's unnecessary. The sex in this movie didn't serve a purpose.

Trust me, it was just altogether REALLY BAD. Rent Twist, it also has Andre Noble and is about hustlers in Toronto, except it's deep and has fantastic acting, soundtrack, and feel to it."

The cereal scene I liked a lot. I wouldn't say Helen's ever seen something like that in real life, but it wasn't hot enough because they didn't touch. The main problem was, the film was too grainy and shot oddly. Plus, the only hot guy was Andre Noble and he wasn't really naked in it. It was his ugly friends who were doing full frontal. Anyway, word to the wise, this is not the film to buy based on its cover.

Plane Tickets/Hotel for a Thursday-Sunday quick weekend in Washington DC, from Expedia. Stayed at the Westin near Georgetown. Best tourist thing I did was visit the Supreme Court (U.S.)- nice program by a docent explaning every thing. It was about a month prior to the first justice's death/first opening. Also went to spy on some cousins nearby in Maryland... I have a deaf cousin, and heard her kid had been put in foster care... and the larger family is very protective with information. Didn't make contact with her. and no way to find her.... frustrating.

I have only read the two volumes by Harrington so far. Mainly because they were supposed to be very good (and they are!) and because their subject is my favourite kind of poker. ;)

It's still too early to say whether reading them helped me money-wise. But I definitely have a better idea now about what I'm supposed to do at the table. :)

The last thing I bought were two DVD's from Ebay. One is Victoria and Albert (2 disc set), and the other is the movie Elizabeth with Cate Blanchette (sp?). I'm pissed off about my Elizabeth DVD because I bought it from this guy in England and it's an R2 and won't play on my players. It was brand new and sealed and he doesn't have any for a regular DVD player, so he won't exchange it or refund my money. Now, either I have to sell it, or wait until I get a DVD that plays R2s.

Ah god, i loved Mulholland Drive too. I had to watch it three times to understand it though, that monster in the beginning scared me shitless.:lol:

Dancer in the Dark is the movie that Bjork did. It was an amazing film, worth checking out. It starts kinda slow, but it ends very well.

I bought it from this guy in England and it's an R2 and won't play on my players. It was brand new and sealed and he doesn't have any for a regular DVD player, so he won't exchange it or refund my money. Now, either I have to sell it, or wait until I get a DVD that plays R2s.

Did he specify it was Region 2 in the auction description?

If you are savy enough you could shrink down the size of the dvd using a program like DVDshrink, then rip the file changing PAL to NTSC and burning it on a dvd+ r/-r. ;)

Yes, but I didn't know anything about that. I didn't even notice to ask. So, you live and learn and sometimes the lessons are hard.

Uh uh, Mulholland Drive that came out in 2001, directed by David Lynch. Naomi Watts is in it. If you havent seen that one, you should check it out too. And did you ever think about doing Netflix? Its waaay better than Blockbuster IMO because they always have any title that you want.

No, I haven't seen that one. I'll check it out. But, I hadn't thought of Netflix becuase I can just go up to BB and just rent something without having to wait for it in the mail and then send it back or buy it, unless Netflix something different from what I thought. Didn't find a shopaholic money-making-scam yet? ;)

To be honest - I share your Ebay addiction. What am I supposed to do with all these socks? But it was such a good deal ... *sigh*

All right, I just got a package from Amazon, my new best friends since 2000. In it a DVD of "Night on Earth". Among other things (books, DVDs, socks  )

Problem is that there is a new collection out from a pretty well known and established German newspaper (Süddeutsche Zeitung). First they offered the 50 best books of the 20st century for 5 Euros a piece in hardcover - I bought them all.

Now they are offering the 50 best movies of that century for a little more. I own two now (one was a birthday present), but I seriously fear that I - and my bank account - are going down the drain. Especially considering all my other addictions as well …

did you order 'em directly from Amazon.com, or from one of Amazon.com's 3rd party sellers. I hate those because although they are cheaper, they take too long to get to you. It especially sucks when buying textbooks for school, and not getting them until 2 weeks after school has started. :(

amazon.com and a few other book vendors have adopted the annoying practice of letting their shipping companies subcontract with the USPS. So you pay for UPS 2-3 day shipping, your book gets shipped late, UPS DOES deliver in 2-3 days, but they deliver to your local US Postal Center not you, and they take another 2-3 days.

Well, we could call you fashionable or plain stupid ;)

I am so glad this thread is back - sorry SJW if the addiction got back to you. But - aren't we all addicted?

Last thing I bought was on a charity action on Ebay, they auctioned off 105 paintings from artists and society people owning their pictures. The money goes to building new SOS Kinderdorf, a charity building and providing shelter for poor kids in unfortunate countries.

Fun part about it is you do not know who the artist is of the picture you buy - so it is a matter of knowledge or plain luck to buy something that you either like or hope to make some money out of it.

I can't post a picture of the painting I bought yet, because the auction is still going on and it is prohibited by the rules.

I will later.

I have an AWFUL confession, but this is something I just bought on-line.

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0009KA8I0.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg

I give it 7 out of 10 stars. Most of the guys were pretty hot and about 4 of them had it majorly going on, if you know what I mean. The format got a little repetitive and they spent like FOREVER making fun of this one guy who was 6'5" but only had like an inch. He kept trying to convince them it was 8 inches hard, and you could totally tell he was lying and the girls were acting like they believed him, but like real condescending, but he was too drunk to notice. I'd had enough after a few minutes, but it lasted forever. They had some guys wrestling naked on the beach too.
