View Full Version : Could it be that Mary will aready retire at the end of this season?

Mary has had a wonderful season.

She reached the quarters in Indian Wells, the final of roland garros the quarters of Wimbledon and the final of NY; and the Fed Cup final togehter with her team colleagues. She leaves out nearly the complete indoor season of this year.

Maybe she would set a highlight with the YEC and then say goodbye.

Being the Number 1 is probably not an aim of hers, otherwise she would have had another sheduling.

Or will she just keep her ressources for next year.

What do you think?

:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

I think Mary has a few more years of tennis in her, and I think she want to play at least through next year. Why would she retire now when she's having one of the best years of her career?

Okay, for now I am covinced, but hopefully she won't change her plans in case of winning
a grand slam next year.

I'd think Mary would play for another couple of years, however I would not be surprised if she retired during the trophee ceremony after winning the French Open 2006! I'd be sad to see her go but WOW! That would be quite a way to end her career!

Yes but for me it would be so poetic for Mary to be able to end her career like that, at the top of the world, at her most precious place (for tennis that is).

Believe me, I know it will be hard for all of us when Mary does the "r" word, but I try to see this similarly to when you read a great book and there's a good ending and you're sad to read the last pages and the last words. You're happy for the characters of the book to have a great ending, but you're also sad because you won't read about them anymore and the story doesn't continue.

I know following Mary's tennis career and life is not exactly the same as reading a good book, but I sometimes feel like this about Mary and the fact that her career won't last forever. I want the book to never end, to have new chapters after new chapters, and we are very lucky as we are getting some great chapters right now, but I know that at some point I'll see the last page and have to close the book of Mary's tennis career. Yes I'll be very sad, yet very happy for her.

So let's make sure that we all enjoy every word of the book for now, cause it is good stuff! :)

 It will be all of ours!!!!!

Hope Mary can do well in Australia!!!! I want to go see her again!!! (The last time time was against Cohen Aloro  ) Mary never retire!!!!!!!

Sir David Pierce
Sep 29th, 2005, 01:24 PM
She should only retire if she is absolutely sure, that her way of playing cannot become even better. I think this manor to retire after winning a grand slam is wrong. A Grand Slam title is a reason for staying. She should retire if she has the feeling that she has not the right level to play on the WTA Tour sucessfully. She should not retire on no account as long as she is in the Top 10.

See you

Dave
