View Full Version : British tour @ Bournemouth (22-27/4)

Apr 21st, 2002, 09:38 AM
Commitments are as follows:

Ekaterina Syssoeva (RUS) 267
I know it seems strange to have Syssoeva playing this event, but it'll suit her as she'll be playing in the 10k at the same venue the following week.
Cristelle Grier (GB) 400
Julia Smith (GB) 619
Kelly Simkin (GB) 698
Irina Boulykina (RUS) 768
Alice Barnes (GB) 784
Carly Homewood (GB) 1036
Luisa Cowper (GB) 1038
Rebecca Rankin (GB) 1040
Annabel Youthed (GB) 1070
Megan Emmett (GB) 1110
Rebecca Dandeniya (GB) 1137
Helen Broome (GB) 1148
Charlotte Wallace (GB) 1191
Melanie South (GB) 1.5
Rebecca Fong (GB) 1.5
Kirsty Woolley (GB) 1.5
Katie Miles (GB) 1.5
Claire Peterzan (GB) 1.5
Melissa Gibb (GB) 1.5
Qualifier * 4

Apr 23rd, 2002, 05:51 PM
The second round draw is as follows (with 1st round ties to be played tomorrow)

Cristelle Grier V Kirsty Woolley/ Jessica Weeks (who was in the 14 & under masters tournament @ Redbridge a month ago!)
Claire Peterzan/ Elizabeth Flint V Carly Homewood
Kelly Simkin V Melanie South/ Annabel Youthed
Rebecca Rankin/ Amber Silverstone V Alice Barnes
Irina Boulykina (RUS) V Melissa Gibb/ Rebecca Dandeniya
Megan Emmett/ Katie Williams V Julia Smith
Luisa Cowper V Charlotte Wallace/ Lucy Fletcher
Rebecca Fong/ Nicole Trelease V Melissa Berry

So, Syssoeva has pulled out. I wonder if she's injured, since she's pulled out and not in the commitments for Bournemouth (she plays virtually all the British challengers). Can't see that she's playing elsewhere this week.

Today's 1st round results were:

Kirsty Woolley BEAT Jessica Weeks 6-2, 6-0
Claire Peterzan BEAT Elizabeth Flint 6-0, 6-3
Annabel Youthed BEAT Melanie South (not Smith as on BBC teletext!) 6-4, 6-4
Rebecca Rankin BEAT Amber Silverstone 6-1, 6-3
Rebecca Dandeniya BEAT Melissa Gibb 6-2, 6-0
Katie Williams BEAT Megan Emmett 6-3, 6-4
Charlotte Wallace BEAT Lucy Fletcher 6-4, 5-7, 6-2
Rebecca Fong BEAT Nicole Trelease 4-6, 6-4, 6-3

So the only surprise was Katie Williams's win.

I'll be interested to see how Dandeniya does tomorrow against Boulykina. Will she be able to upset the odds like she did last week against Erbova?

I'm not going down to watch the matches tomorrow, mainly because I'm staying down there next weekend for the $10k

P.S Very sad to hear about the death of Lisa Lopes and also that terrible school tragedy in Germany.

Apr 26th, 2002, 05:30 PM
Bad luck Carly, but still at least u won a match here!!

Well done Alice and Melissa. (i cant believe alice's ranking is so low, she's much better than what? 800?)

Have fun next week Bluepastures :)

Apr 26th, 2002, 09:51 PM
Well, I guess Alice probably isn't too worried about her ranking since she'll be going off to the USA to university soon. Her current ranking is actually 850.

Apr 26th, 2002, 10:18 PM
thats exactly right. Shes not really bothered about moving back up to what 350? Where she probably would fit as she wont be defending any points next year. Shes more concerned about winningthe Tour before she goes to Stanford.

I got a text off her this morning lamenting about the weather! First outdoor tourny of the GB season and it pours down!

Apr 26th, 2002, 10:27 PM
The weather's the only thing that concerns me about next weekend (for the 10k) actually. I've been told that sometimes, if there's a lot of rain, they'll move matches to indoor courts in Southampton. Is that true?

Apr 26th, 2002, 10:27 PM
Its Alics Vs Irina in the final

Alice beat Christelle 7-6 6-1:eek:

Irina beat Melissa 6-1 6-0:eek:

Apr 28th, 2002, 09:05 AM
maybe TBE will have something to say her... just how good a result was it for Alice to beat Bouylkina?

Alice took the title 3 and 3, and will hopefully continue where she left off as she goes into qualies for the 10k on the same courts

(although judging by looking out the window, it wont be for a while yet!)

Apr 28th, 2002, 09:06 AM
Congratulations to Alice Barnes on beating Irina Boulykina 6-3, 6-3 in the final @ Bournemouth yesterday

The next British tour event is at Doncaster starting on the 20th May.

Apr 28th, 2002, 10:24 AM
well done Alice!! :D
