In this clip from the Torun challenger 2003, Gabriela Navratilova (on the far side) demonstrates how to beat Ekaterina Bychkova. Sveta should have watched this before today's match.

Don't miss Bychkova's reaction at the end. ;)

my reaction would be the same after such a rally, and most likely the whole match was like this

but are your sure it is Gaby Navratilova on the far side?
i thought it is Conchita Martinez

poor girl... sucked into the unsightly game of moonballing. but it's 2 years ago. players improve. 2 years ago, sveta and maria was just a top 30 player, alicia is just a top 50 player. so i think she must have improved to beat the defending us open champ. :)

Great rally ;)

Well Bychkova was beaten against Marie-Eve Pelletier this year, which isn't always a sign of greatness. But then, Craybas also lost to her, and she went on to beat Serena. I guess Marie-Eve has a weird power!

I don't know if it's common on clay... but I find it odd that High School girls especially resort to this stuff often. I've seen girls who didn't lose but twice in four years play like this in nearly every match... even though in practice sessions they hit out like the "big babes"... I don't know what it is... but maybe it's the "thinkers" that play like this??? It certainly takes a lot of patients. When I was younger and in a tight situation I played points like this and usually got out of a jam... but NOW I'm not that patient... that's why people like Conchita are amazing... how could you have the nerve to play like that late into a career... It's definetly a talent and an art.

On rare occasion when I have the nerve to play like this... I always win the point, and I only do it when it's a point I MUST HAVE!
