(Is it just me or did Kim look rather subdued at the end? Is her Achilles still troubling her?)

She finished with more winners than UE's though..that's pretty rare for Kim.

Anyhoo like you said..on to the next round :)

Good win for Kim, but a shame that another player had to get so demolished in the process.

Oh for fuck's sake, will you lot stop all this gossip! You're like a gaggle of sad old women gassing over the back wall

She's had an achilles niggle since before Toronto. There's nothing to suggest she's injured from today yet, is there? Why not wait until the interview. :p

Can you calm down? And act like an adult, I think I have the full right to ask a question.

If you think exaggerating the speculative crap on here is adult behaviour, fine! I think it'd be more adult of you to await the interview ;)

Kimmy interview up and no mention of injury (in fact, no mention of tennis  ). Gosh, I must stop acting like an adult! :banghead:

It was a nice match by both ;)
Muller was moving Kim from left to right and hit some great winners but very often Kim used splits to hit a ball and after that Martina shots were small outs or somethin'. I remember Martina when she was in Top 100 and played here in 3r. she hits flat and near lines but Kim was too good in defence ;) Martina's 2nd serve is quite weak...
Congratz Kim! It was a pleasure to see that match :)

Nice to see Muller back in Grand Slams too after dropping down WAY down the rankings.

Yeah, I agree. Martina played pretty well and fearlessly at times, esp in the second set. She really hit some great shots and made Kim earn her win! IMO Kim was playing well, though her serve still needs a little "tuning" ;) but overall, a good first round match!

I only saw the first 3 games of the first set before having to go out. But the second game where Kim broke to go 2-0 was long with both players playing well - and exactly how you've described the match. Obviously I don't know but I suspect it may have been the best game of the match.

Congratz Kim.

I got to watch Kim defeat Muller live at the tennis center.
Despite the lopsided score, it was an entertaining match. Kim's really popular among tennis crowds here in the US.

It was a joy to watch her amazing athleticism out there using her trademark split then slicing the ball--She won a lot of key points with this technique and to the delight and gasps of the crowd.
Kim made Muller play that extra ball and then she played passing shots that whizzed by. Also hit some great crosscourt forehand winners.

Kim's quick pick-up volley (usually difficult to get to as the bounce on Muller's shot was so low) was particularly amazing on one point and drew cheers.

I can think of only two blips that really stand out in my mind.
First, the multiple DF's in maybe the 3rd game of the match. Despite the DF's in that game Kim's serve held up.
Another minor blip was a missed opportunity to finish it at the net after playing a great rally. Kim let out a yell, laughed, kicked the ball in frustration European football style and did a little pirouette.

Kim wasn't even playing at the top of her game, but had more than enough tools to beat Muller who kept making terrible unforced errors. Muller hit close to the sidelines and rallied well, but couldn't finish off the points. At one point she had the entire open court and missed long! On top of that Kim hit some screaming winners and stayed ahead the entire match.

OTOH, it was really painful watching Svetlana go down to Bychkova. I got the sense that Sveta wasn't really trying anymore. As she walked off the court, the crowd barely applauded for her. What a disappointing way for the defending champ to go out.

It was an interesting match. It was good to see Martina fight, even if is didn't work out with Kim blasting on the other side. Some shots and returns were unbelievable.
