She looks fitter, like Miami 2004 shape. The matches will get her in shape during the tournament. She'll slim out. Remember, the more matches she plays, the fitter she gets.

You've got to be kidding right? Serena may not have the body of an athlete at the moment, but she looks like a normal human being . I'd bet she's smaller than a size 12-- the average size of the American woman. As for Anna looking great :tape:

as for Serena, she looks like regular Serena to me here. I mean, just naturally, she is a HUGE girl. I mean look at those legs
For me it is a question of whether her knee is better, and I don't think an exhibition at kid's day can tell us much about that.

Jezus, the woman is 61! Can we please allow her to look a little ugly?? Serena is indeed looking better IMO, not super fit but fit enough if you ask me. Anna doesn't look anorexic, it's just the muscle she's lost by not being a professional athlete anymore. She does look a little thin though... Ah, who cares, I think those two look really good! :)

Infiniti, you've got to face the truth, Serena's not in shape, like it or not. She may look like the average women in America, but she's not a simply American woman, she's a tennis player and therefore should be fit enough to carry her body around the court.

And yes Anna looks great IMO. She's not playing competitive tennis anymore, so she lost all the 'muscle' she had when playing WTA. She looks like a girl of her age.

Just got back from Arthur Ashe kids day, and saw both Venus and Serena on the practice courts, and Serena in Ashe stadium. Serena didn't look too good during practice....she kept going back to her chair and putting her foot up to rest the ankle/knee, I guess. Venus seemed fine and got quite a bit of practice in. After about the 3rd or 4th time of going back to her chair, Serena and her Dad were engaged in a looong conversation. At the end, they both hugged,(slightly emotional moment) and we were trying to figure what it was all about.:tape: When they were done and came towards the exit, there was quite a crowd calling them both(including us) and trying to get an autograph. They both kept walking towards what would be the players lounge, but then Vee turned around, came back, and signed a few autographs for us. Serena never batted an eye, so to speak, but kept going. I attributed that to her trying to rush and get ready for the Stadium show, which was about to start in a half hour.
Now on to the show concerning the players.....there were two teams...Green and White. Green-Serena, Anna K, Nadal, and Roddick. White-- Kim, Agassi, Martina N, and Federer. White team won. Kim beat Serena 9/5, and Roger /Martina beat Nadal/Anna, 9/7. They seemed to be having so much fun out there, and Anna, Rena, and Kim appeared quite friendly, talking, joking, and laughing with each other, even tapping each other with the noise makers.Nadal kept "drooling" over Anna, in a cute way. Rhianna was ok but I'm not into Click Five. It was an awesome day with so many star players on the grounds. highlight of my day was watching Gael Monfils/Andy Young vs Nadal / Jmac, who were dressed identical.....they made my day...an autograph from all four, AND Jim Courrier(sp). I could go on, but its too much to relay. Btw, Kim looked real good, and ready for the open.

I know what the Richard and Serena conversation was about: withdrawing unfortunately. Serena's knee is obviously not ready. No reason to push it.

Was the practice before or after Kid's Day? How did Serena move against Kim? Was she serving okay? How were her groundies? I know it is just a fun little exhibition, but some things can be seen from it.

There were balls well within her reach that she didn't chase or sprint for, in the healthy Serena manner. Serve was great though. I've got some pics from there, quali day 2, and Bronx Classics, but I'm still figuring how to post them.:o

Serena looks better than she did at Wimbledon, BUT her tummy still isn't as sculpted as it usually is. Serena will bounce back. The thing I was most concerned about was her ankle, now that that's "100%" we just have to wait for her knee to heal again.

Those angles/lighting are not kind to Serena's form. I'm not saying Serena is as fit as she was in that 2002 pic but she's alot closer than the pics above make it seem.

Also, question for the poster who went to Kids day, I know it was just an exhibition but how was Serena's form against Kim? serve, groundies, movement....?
thanks ;) i think 9-5 is a respectable score for someone who according to most is "fat and on a terrible slump" lol...it gives me hope that if she can do that now, with more matches, she can beat her.

I'm giving her time. I realize that her injuries have caused her to not be able to work out as much, but why is she playing the US Open when she's fisibly not 100%. After she loses in the R32, her excuse is that she's not ready to come back. I'm just saying that if you are healthy enough to make the decision to come, then you're healthy enough to play.

I hope she is positive on the court and just stays relaxed. She shouldn't put a lot of pressure on herself in this tournament to win, but just enjoy the competition for what it's worth. If your knee is bothering you, then as Venus would say "It is what it is" and deal with it appropriately. I hope for the best for Serena and I wish that the sisters wouldn't have to play in the 4th round!!
