Venus doesn't like night matches, so it's all good.

Sharapova is ranked higher. ;)

The Williamses will get more coverage in the end (should they do well), so who cares. :P

Anyone know what time coverage starts for the day matches? I wanna set my VCR in advanced.

Looking ahead, does this mean that the top half will play all their fourth round matches on Sunday???? I hope so

Unusual that one of this year's Slam winners isn't playing a night match, but as long as one of them is on Ashe Stadium court (espeially since a stamp bearing his likeness is going on sale Monday), I have not problem with this.

Yeah its weird . She is the # 1 seed but she has not won the US open before , hasn't won a GS this year and isn't American.

The only reason Sharapova is playing the night match is because her match-up with Daniilidou is the highest profile...could be a tough exciting match. Venus and Serena play relatively unknowns....

She is the number one seed who will not be number one when the tournament starts, has never been past the 3rd round of the USO (and I don't expect her to get past the fourth at this one).

This means Maria's match is after midnight in Europe.
And it's on cable in the U.S.
I don't see what the big deal about the night match is.
Nobody is watching it.

Yep, methinks too much is being made of it-- Maria actually got the shorter end of the stick this time :tape:

It is an American tournamemt, two of the women's Slam winners this year are American and for the past few years, unoffically, a current year Slam winner or a past USO winner for the women has played the night match. Maria is neither a Slam winner this year nor is she a past USO winner.

Fine with me. I'd like to see Dani take out Maria anyway, but I'm not so interested to tape it and by then Venus and Serena will have already completed their matches and will be into the second round, hopefully!
