Goodluck Smashnova and Peer

You girls gotta to win this time...!!!

It's a very tough 1rd match, but the bonus is a very good chance to make it to the third should she face slumping Golovin or a qualifier (though both are still tricky).
in the third round i'd say she has a chance against Koukalova and beltrame, but i do think dechy will come on top there and beat smashnova.
in her best of times this could have been a good bracket for the draw - but it isn't.

damn.. very tough draw
maybe if the Budapest form will come and visit hardcourts she can win.
hope she'll take slightly more agressive tactics this time, she can hit hard shots with the backhand.

good luck :)

Not a good draw at all. Vera is a very solid player, not in the best of forms now but she's still dangerous. Anna must play really really well to win. Otherwise I fear it will be another first round loss at a Grand Slam. :(

Shahar has a good chance of reaching the 3rd round. Marta isn't playing well and Lena Bovina hasn't been playing for ages.

New draw

1st round Anna Smashnova ISR vs. Qualifier/LL

1st round Marta Domachowska POL vs. Shahar Peer ISR
if she wins 2nd round Qualifier vs. Vera Douchevina RUS (33)

could be better for both :D good luck

Anna will play Sandra Klosel (GER). They never played against each other before.

actually, she can win two rounds with this draw.
Golovin is playing some bad tennis this year in general, and this hardcourt season in particuler.
Sadly, her form won't allow anything more against dechy who is playing some nice tennis, and even so - it won't be her QF with lindZ.

and by the way, from Jon Wertheim's coloum regarding the USopen:

Dark-horse nation (his say about possible players having suprising runs other than the top seeds)

Shuai Peng. Best of the Chinese contingent is the only player to beat Clijsters since Wimbledon.

Sesil Karatancheva. Still learning how to play, but dangerous nonetheless.

Kveta Peschke. Veteran quietly enjoying best year of her career. Too bad she meets Vaidisova right away.

Anna Smashnova. Wins scads of smaller titles. About time she made a run at a Major.

though i think her run was supposed to be RG04, still nice he mentions her :)

In my opinion winning a round would suffice, winning two would be a bonus. Golovin might be terrible now but sadly Anna on hard courts is totally different from Anna on clay courts.

That's nice. Actually, I think (and hope) that Anna will reach the 3rd round, but she has already lost to lower ranked players before, so I dunno.

Anna beat Kloesel 6-3 6-3 and now faces a very disturbed Tatiana Golovin who barely escaped VRP of spain in a final set tie-break.
It's possible. anna knows what to do in these situations, though Golovin was a bit too good for anna in the last two meetings when she was 16 years old :scared:
hopefully she can do. there's no other better time.

anna lost a heartbreaker 6-4 7-6(7) after saving a MP at 5-4 down in the second.
she had a 6-5 lead and then came back from 3-0 in the Tiebreak and had a setpoint at 7-6, but tati saved it and took the next two points.
it's sad and heartbreaking.
she had a real chance there.
so depressed.

Just got a brief match report from my sister who was there. Lots of long volleys. On the last point of the match, another long volley, Tati was screaming louder with each swing. On the last one, she shrieked long and loud and Anna was apparently distracted enough to lose the point - and the match. Afterward, Anna walked right past Golovin and did not shake her hand.

There was also a point (or after a point, it was called out) where Golovin almost hit Anna and didn't say sorry. :o

i saw that match, and yes tati was way too loud and everyone in the crowd got into the point because it was a tie breaker. i was routing for ANNA ofcourse, but i can;t blame anna for walking past tati, she was mean to anna and disrespectful. people booed anna but i stood up and supported her in the 3rd row and well people looked at me in shock. i got her autograph too. :D
