(New Haven-WTNH, Aug. 18, 2005) _ Marat Safin, one of the more exciting players in the world and ranked number four in the world, is gonna play next week at the Pilot Pen tennis tournament.

While that's good news for tournament organizers and fans, the tournament also lost two players Thursday.

Taylor Dent has pulled out of the men's draw citing an ankle injury.

Defending women's champion Elena Bovina is also out. She had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.

Svetlana Kuznetsova takes Bovina's place. She is the defending U.S. Open champion.

Qualifying play for the tournament begins Friday.

So Sveta's injury is not that bad.

But still too many injuries.

This must be the 4th injury announcement today alone

Kuznetsova should take a break before she does the "Myskina" and loses all her grand slam points by losing to a no name first round.

Around 20, likely 21.

She has had a tough season because of injuries. Seems like she has only played a few events. The one slam she played she did very well in.

Oh crap - she and Dechy put on a great show in the final last year.

(and double crap! for her - I hope she gets healthy soon)
