PYW - Rogers Cup

Welcome to Toronto! This year the Rogers Cup is part of the PYW Tour for the first time. Next year, the city of Montréal will play host to all these PYW stars and their supporters, but for now Toronto takes the honours.

Twelve qualifiers and three lucky losers made it to the main draw, where a total of 56 players competed for the hotly contested title, with only four players remaining. It's one of the final tournaments in the PYW season. The start of the US Open will also mean the start of a new PYW season, so this is the final chance to improve the rankings, before points will have to be defended.

Ranking Points:

W - 300
F - 210
SF - 135
QF - 75
R16 - 42
R32 - 25
R16 - 5
Qualifier - 10 *
Q2 - 5
Q1 - 2

* If a qualifier loses in the first round of the main draw, she receives no first round points as usual

PYW Ranking of the Participants:
Rankings after Los Angeles, Stockholm and ITF Rimini

4. Anastasia Myskina RUS
5. Mary Pierce FRA

Anastasia Myskina has reached her second final in two weeks. The Russian starlet won her second title of the season last week in Stockholm and will be eyeing for a third today. And she can be hopefull. Why? Well, she easily dismissed top favourite Kim Clijsters in straight sets AND is playing Mary Pierce in the final.

Ofcourse no descredit to Mary Pierce, but the French bomber has a nasty habit of losing finals. Let's sum it up for you, shall we: after a promising final loss at the US Open last year, the Frenchwoman succumbed in the final of Filderstadt, Antwerp, Amelia Island (to Myskina!) and Berlin. Wich makes this her 6th final of the PYW season.

Will the voters have finally mercy on dear Mary's soul? Or will Myskina prevail once again?

After all this being said, it's time for you to VOTE for the final time this tournament. Let the best player win.

Final:

Anastasia Myskina RUS [9] vs Mary Pierce FRA [8]

Well, we can't really controll how fast a round will be ended. Like this final was finished in about an hour, but there have been first rounds that needed more than a day to conclude. That's why PYW starts when the qualifiers are placed. And sometimes the tournament ends really early and sometimes it's already weekend before it ends, but I have to admit that it's the first thing that happens more and more (due to the increasing popularity of PYW :D )

Yes, I do love to play. But sometimes I go to sleep and it's the second round, and I wake up and it's the Final. Maybe delay the rounds like say "Semifianls can't start before friday" or "Fianl can't start before the weekend or something". It will make it so people won't sleep through half of a tournament.

I agree. I often miss half the rounds because I'm asleep or just not on.

I wish Myskina could have taken the title.

or that our votes only count for half a point, because I already missed the tournament :o

Starting the rounds on certain days wont work, because they could just be started at 3am on that day for some ppl and would be finished at about 6am, so lots of ppl still wont get to vote. I say play best of 5.

In response to people saying they missed a certain round, because it's going too fast:

That is what makes it interesting. If we have the same people voting every round, we get the same results all the time. If threads are started at different times, different people can vote and we get different results, making it far more interesting.

Best of five is an idea I am a bit wary of, because I do not think we can get enough people to vote. But who knows..

Thanks for supporting the game :bounce: :D
