She begins her campaign against as the number one seed against a qualifier or lucky loser with second round clash against old rival Emanuelle Gagliardi (Emga) or another Q/LL.
let's hope she has a better week than this one!

kapros no match, 6-2 6-2, should be said in kapros' behalf that she caused anna to lose the most games in a match so far
next up kostanic whom smashnova hold a 2-1 head to head lead over, including a win this year.

I think she won against Kapros 6-2 6-0 and she already lost 3 games in the first round match

yeah, i think the first score given was 2 and 2, but it was comfirmed 2 and love. bagel ;) she's giving alot of those this year, mind you.
and 3 games were most lost.
venus lost just 12 games in istanbul this year, anna still can better that with convincing straight sets.
and no, it's not 2002 form. 2002 form means beating top20 girls by will.

Anna into final :D d. Jelena K 6-2 6-0

she didn't beat top20 girls that much or that easily in 2002.
this are the results we would have expected if she had played this turny in 2002..

I mean.. 6-0 6-1 vs. Savchuk! she is a great player and this is a great score
6-2 6-0 vs. Jelena K. !

great result. kostanic is a tricky player.
should take the title now.
she beat castano earlier on this year.

and what the hell are you talking about?
she beat 11 (!!!!!!) top20 players that year, of them 3 top10.
2002 was amazing.
this tourny, even though great is nothing in comparsion to shanghai canberra and auckland and especiialy Vienna - that was an amazing tourny beating tolyaganova, schnyder, rittner, wartusch and gagliardi.
at that time, anna was in a totally different zone.
still - she should win this.

Jelena Kostanic, whom Anna played against, is ranked 70.
I think you confused her with Jelena Jankovic, am I right? ;)
Jankovic is indeed ranked 19

Oh sorry i didn't mean that Kostanic is ranked top 20,
I meant that this is the results anna would have if she played this turny in 2002 and not 2003-2005. she did beat 11 top 20 players and it seems like she could have beaten some top 20 players here as well if there were any.

I don't know, this turny wins doesn't seem less impressive to me than those wins over tolyaganova, schnyder, rittner, wartusch and gagliardi, guess it just me.

losing only 8 games is just  imo ..

good luck :bounce:

From eurosport.com:

Smashnova captures Budapest crown

Top-seed Anna Smashnova captured her second title of the season on Sunday beating Colombia's Catalina Castano 6-2 6-2 in the Budapest Grand Prix final. "It was a tough match and finals are never easy," said Smashnova, who has won all 11 of her WTA singles finals.

"The score doesn't reflect it, but there were several close points," said the recent Modena champion.

Smashnova broke Castano's serve at love to go up 2-1 in the first set, which she won thanks mainly to her greater patience in the long rallies.

Smashnova, ranked 54th, took a 5-0 lead in the second set before Castano recovered briefly and won two games.

But Smashnova won the match in one hour 30 minutes.

Smashnova improved her record against the Colombian qualifier to 2-0, also beating Castano in May in the first round of the Istanbul Cup.

intresting question coming up - with two titles at the end of the season, and two top20 wins throughout the season (likhovtseva and jankovic), also another SF in a tierIV event and third round in a slam (what smashnova had problems achieving for a long while) can this year be called succesful?
alot of girls on tour would swap places immidiatly - it's two titles, a positive W/L record, and probably a top50 year end ranking.
still, you have to feel like the whole smashnova-pistolesi ----> smashnova "stole" at least a title from her throughout the year and a half, as well as some better results.
i hope this acts as a confidence booster for her now that she changes to hardcourts.
the season is still not done, and a SF in moscow like she had in her amazing run beating 3 russians could actually make this season great, if she can beat top20ers like she did against myskina and zvonareva it would be fantastic, but it's a big question - is she really on form? is she really and finally OK?
one thing is certain - she's still the best israeli on tour :)
