I'll be (very) pleasantly surprised if she beats Cravero. Ajmo Miki!

ma re
Jul 6th, 2008, 07:12 AM
Cravero is a solid claycourt player (she's Argentinian after all), but I think she's not as dangerous as Parra, eventhough her ranking suggests otherwise. I'm saying this because she's never been a top100 player, while Parra was even top50, so definately a better potential. She beat the likes of Nagy and Karatancheva this year, but she doesen't have any really sound wins. Her best tourney is Marseille 75k where she reached semis, but mostly by beating girls ranked outside top200 and losing to Flipkens, so that's not very impressive. Miki can win this.

P. S. Anyone knows OOP for today?

This is good reult but expected cause she already played doubles 2 time s this year with crapy partners against a good player and managed to go into the 3rd set.
I am afraid that she might miss Biella oder Bad Gastein qualies because of doubles.
She is not getting SE for it, is she?
P.S. She has good chances to get in Portorož qualies, if she will I could maybe watch her live...:)

I didn't found her name on European challengers, not even on Rimini 75k for withc I was sure she will play. I know she could play WTA events in Slovenia and Sweden, but anyway.

Jul 13th, 2008, 05:04 PM
Very good win here, congrats!

Mrdeza is one of the most talented Croatian newcomers that had some solid wins lately, so this is a worthy result. I think she was even a bigger threat than Balsamo is (who has just one QF on 25k's, is outside of 400 and has never been inside 300 ranking wise). I expect Miki to qualify here.

It's great that she and Gagliardi are asking for those WC's (and getting them), but they sure have a lousy draw this time:rolleyes:

Good luck Miki:wavey:

yeah... Mirjana does not appear at any othe tournament after Biella...

When does she will be playing after that? USA?

She's on entry lists (qualy alts.) for WTA Tier 3 and 4 summer events in both Europe and the US -- for example, Portoroz, Stockholm, Cincinnati, and Forest Hills (unless she has withdrawn from them; I have only seen the original lists, not any updates).

Until she enters the top 500 (which will be very soon!) she isn't allowed to enter Tier 1 or 2s.

It's Fedak. I could've been better, but it could've been worse also. Fedak this year has wins over Dellacqua, Voskoboeva, Kvitova, Knapp, Garbin, Bacsinszky, Dechy, Szavay... She hasn't gone very far on either of the tournaments she played, but she successfully qualified for several WTA events. Miki'll have to be at her very best to stand even the slightest chance here, I guess.

Miki -should- win that, but it won't be easy since Eliot is basically a hardcourt player (played just 3 clay events this season) and has some decent wins this year (Spears, Schultz, Zec-Peskiric...). She was good

Oh was she:confused: I must be missing the point here - what was good; 10 double faults she made, or her 1st serve percentage being below 50%? What's even worse is that Elliot was equally as bad - making the same number of df's and having about the same serve stats. Call it what you want, but for me this is nothing short of disappointing.

That's history and I am not interested in it.

Miki:Of course that I have my personal gold but now when I am 480 on list I can't say anything really but just to play as often as I can. About golds we will took when then ranking will be higher.

Yes, maybe even she would be directly in MD. This was big chance for her and I really hoped that she will stay in Europe cause she is playing wrong tournaments all year. On the start of the year she played in America on some 25k wich were 10 times stronger then the one in Europe. At that time I was hoping that she will stay in States and play challengers but she went to Europe where season just started and those events were much stronger than the ones in States. Now she is doing same mistake again. :help::mad:

From what I've heard she is staying in Europe... Apparently Italy is her "new home" for some time... We'll see, but as you guys already said, it would be a mistake for her if she goes to the states now. She desperately needs 2-3 good performances on itf tournaments to improve her ranking...

But I doubt that she will stay in States, if she even plans to play.
And it is so ironic what she said after Portorož, wich was her last tournament, that she only wants to play week to week. Why she left Europe?? She could play strong Challengers with weak players and get many point and maybe even some feed up.:tape::sad::rolleyes:

Hopefully she'll crop up again soon. I guess she might be a bit discouraged by the fact her ranking is #461 at the moment but she should be reminding herself that she has improved her ranking by over 200 places after the Indian Wells points came off and that a few good results could see her back into grand slam qualifying events pretty soon.

If Miki manages to lose this I'll be horrified - this girl (ranked 301) is a claycourter and if you look at her data on itf site, you'll notice almost all of her wins this year came on clay. She's done nothing on hardcourts (and she played quite a lot of tournaments on them) except that 10k three weeks ago where she beat 2 unranked players, while the remaining 3 were ranked outside of top600. Her best win this year was over Ijima (who's a hardcourter ranked 217) on clay. Miki should have no problems going through.

I like Nanda Alves, but it's true, everybody beats her. :( So it's a good re-entry match for Mirjana, but she'll have to keep the errors down, which has sometimes been tough for her this year. Glad to see Miki dug in to win that match in 2 sets. A few years ago if she went 4-0 down she would have lost the set 6-0 so good fighting. Next up is Tiya Rolle who beat Samantha Powers 7-5 6-0. Tiya is pretty much a good serve with not a lot else so Miki really needs to take care of her own service games and concentrate. ;)

auntie janie

Tiya's an awful player; her career high ranking was 620, and that was 2 years ago. Drawing her is a real gift for Mirjana, and I hope she can take care of her quickly and be fresh for the next match, which will be a challenging one.

Next match will show us has her game advanced in the past few weeks. This is the 6th time this year she's playing QR3 and only once she lost (Midland 75k). Bad news is, she never won a match after qualifying throughout this season.

auntie janie
Sep 23rd, 2008, 12:35 PM
That's right, she has never been able to win 4 matches in a row this season.

The other bad news is that Stoop has been playing very well recently and is full of confidence right now. This will be a good challenge for Mirjana; she will have to be very steady.

Good news is that Mirjana has moved into the qualy field for the Pittsburgh 50K two weeks from now. So she'll play Troy and Pittsburgh after Ashland, if all goes as planned. It's great to see that she's planning to play regularly again. :)

If Mirjana plays like she did in S'Hertogenbosch she will have too much for Georgie. Georgie is one of our UK up and coming players, she was making real progress 12-18 months ago and then got injured and had to start again and has really come well up the rankings again. I'm sure without the injuries she'd be in the #125-140 range of the rankings now along with her compatriots Mel South and Katie O'Brien.

Hopefully it's a good match with Miki winning.

Well, she had amazing chance to do big things in 2 matches. One against Dokic and one against Tanasugarn. First she lost after leading in close match and than Jelena toke the whole tournament with not loosing more than 5 games in a match. And against Tammy she could qualify for MD of WTA event and do big things. On the end, she lost that match too and Tanasugarn won the tournament and week later reached QF in Wimbledon. Those are big results and I think that Miki can do them . On hard she would have to reach SF on Challenger to the end of the year, but on clay and specially grass she is ready to be TOP 100 again, if not even higher. One big win would change all!!!!!, luck is all she need. She deserved it! GL Mirjana! Never give up! ;)
But if she doesn't do anything big to the end of season I doubt she will have money or sponsors for next season.

Paz is turning 17 today - let's hope Miki chooses another present instead of a main draw spot:lol:

Paz seems reasonably good, but not overly impressive to me - career high ranking of 379, which is about 50 places above her current, is not that uncommon for girls her age (Martic is just a few months older). She beat just four top300 players this year, none of which was top150 (Tatishvili, A. Rolle, C. Gullickson and Esperon). I think Miki can take her out, especially after such a nice win over a good opposition in QR2.

Oh, good! What a relief. I admit I was worried after her close match yesterday. Nice turnaround, Miki! :hatoff:

Come on Mirjana, let's rack up more wins now. :) I admire her patience in this comeback. I must admit I've lost a lot of hope, but the fact that she's still out there trying is admirable.

Draw is up on USTA site and Miki plays wild card entry Megan Moulton-Levy who is ranked #451.

Megan qualified for the Lawrenceville 50K event last week and made the quarter finals. She had two good wins in the main draw over Carly Gullickson and Tetiana Luzhanska who was the 8th seed before losing to De Los Rios 6-2 6-3. Definitely winnable for Miki but as always it's probably up to her. Her opponent's most recent results are here :

Nice to see a main draw win again:)

Now probably a much tougher test against Luzhanska.

Good luck:wavey:

It would be a nice milestone in a difficult year if Miki could win at least one more match here -- she hasn't won 4 matches in a row all year. And what a great boost it would be if she could propel her ranking into the top 400 at last; she's really not that far off.

Fight, Miki! Maybe this is the week that all your hard work will start to pay off. :rocker2:

Hele.

with this win she at least would be about 412th place but with one more she would up into top 400.

This is a great run so far for Miki! Hopefully she just keeps on trucking through this draw. It would be so amazing to see her upset the #3 seed and make the quarterfinals!!! I guess she's not playing today though since Luzhanska hasn't played her 1st round match yet, right?

That's right. Maybe Kim Couts will have one of her surprising days and upset Luzh. :D

Let's hope! But either way really is fine by me - I'd love to see Miki get to play against the higher ranked player, get that experience, and get the win. Hopefully, she can do it!!! ;)

Well, it can't hurt that they played 3 sets:) Of course, Miki had a 3-setter in QR1, so it's not much of a help, but still...

Luzhanska is obviously a clear favorite, especially after reaching finals of one 25k, semis of another, quarters of one 75k and several QF's on 25k's. She also beat Zahlavova Strycova this year. BUT...her good game disappeared after RG. She's basically a claycourter, and after the French she managed just three wins in ten tournaments. Of course, that doesen't change the fact that she's the favorite, cause she did reach 3 quarterfinals on 25k's this year, but all of them were in February and March, and she did have a 6 match losing streak from June to September. Not counting this tournament, her w/l record on clay this year was 12/6 (Miki 15/11), while on all other surfaces she's 8/16 (Miki 11/9).

Therefore, I'd say Miki has a chance, not a big one, but still a chance.

How come Mirjana dropped 13 places, from 441. to 454, when she didn't have to defend any points from last year? :o

She dropped because she didn't add any points this week, and other players did, so they passed her.

Because Augusta was just a 25K, the 5 points she earned there won't be added until next week. That should bring her up into the 420's, depending on how other players in that part of the rankings fare this week.

And considering this was her 19th tourney of the year, and rankings only count points from 17 best tournaments, from now on she'll have to win more than 1 point (her minimum won on a single tournament) to advance in the rankings at all. Which means that results like QR2's of challengers won't get her anywhere anymore. And of 18 tournaments currently forming her ranking, on 9 she won 1 point or less(!).

..of 18 tournaments currently forming her ranking, on 9 she won 1 point or less(!).

 :bigcry:

Oh, well. That will make it all the easier for Miki to climb in the rankings next year, as she eliminates those 1-pointers from her 12-month record one by one. Replacing them with much higher point totals, of course. :D

Why she hasn't played more doubles this year is still beyond me. Her singles and doubles rankings are pretty close eventough she played just 3 doubles and almost 20 singles tournaments. Of all Croatians in doubles rankings, she and Mezak have the least number of tournaments played, and Mezak was out most of the year due to injury.
