Folks,please forgive my lack of knowledge,but I clicked on the head-to-heads on the WTA Tour website and they didn't show anything between Mirjana and this Panova girl.Sometimes that website is very slow to post ITF tournament results so maybe that's why.I assume from your words that Panova has beaten Mirjana at least once yet I don't know anything about this woman.She is ranked in the 400 numbers and is only 18.Is she considered one of Russia's best young prospects,or did she only have one strong performance vs. Mirjana?:confused:I hope she's figured out a way to beat Alexandra. we don't know cause no one from the board was at the match. tournament draws are random, occassionally the same two players will play in back to back weeks, but that is just the luck of the draw

Ok..she played erratic, but if you have followed livescore she has had many close game that she lost at the end..so its a nice sign!

Yes, she had her chances to stay more in the match... her game still needs some improving. But we have to credit her for the great job and efforts she's doing. Btw, a new event is on her schedule. Check out her blog and comment. :)

Mirjana's game will always be high risk & hard-hitting. She'll gain more consistency with more matchplay.

With the Indian Wells points coming off from last year Mirjana's ranking is about to plummet to below #700 :mad: I hope this doesn't deter her from continuing to play but she'd going to find it hard getting into challengers with that ranking.

She also entered the Monzon, Spain 75K as her 2nd choice for that Jackson week. I'm hoping she'll go over there and play that and then Estoril. Yes she is way down the entry list for Estoril at this moment -- 118th, as of yesterday -- but the qualy withdrawal deadline is still about 10 days away, and last year even bagel girls made the qualy draw there. She would just have to show up on the sign-in day and hope for a lot of no-shows, as always happens in the Tier 3s and 4s. I am confident she could get into qualies there.

She's also on the entry list for Charleston Tier 1, by the way. That is her first choice, over Estoril. I'm glad she's at least trying to get into some WTA events, even if her she's not quite ready for that level yet, tennis-wise.

I'm not surprised she's pissed off -- remember last year she had a cold that dragged on and on for weeks while she was playing. I'm sure she doesn't want that to happen again.

Her ranking plummeted this week to 713. :( So I really hope she'll get into Estoril qualies so she can start earning some decent points. Good thing she's starting now to prepare for the clay season. :)

Surely Castano is a tricky opponent for Miki's game..but this year Catalina is not in good shape like she was in Rome last year.
I can honestly say that in Rome 07..Miki was too tired..that was the main problem for her loss

Castaño is a top-100 player and a claycourt specialist who plays week in and week out, so Miki's loss to her is no surprise. I know everyone is disappointed because of the way the match went, but for me, just seeing the score after the fact, I was happy that Miki won a set. I don't think she has the confidence in her game yet that she's going to need to win this type of match. But it's still a big step up from her two straight-set losses to Alexandra Panova!

So, presumably, it's back to the ITF tour for Mirjana. I just hope she'll keep trying week after week; sooner or later, her game will start clicking and her confidence can start to grow again.

I just hope she keeps at it and doesn't get discouraged.

i actually wish she'd go and play 1 10k somewhere. she might be seeded and she can surely win it. just winning 5 matches in a row would help her the next time she is in a winning position against someone like castano to close it out

I wish she'd play a 10K, too. I really think just one would do the trick, but it doesn't look like Mirjana is thinking that way.

Next week she's 19th alt. for the 100K in Sainte-Malo, so I think she'd need a WC to get in there. Not many alts have been getting into these European ITFs, and I seriously doubt she'd fly over there on the off chance she might get in. Then the following week, her first priority is Dothan, back in the US. It's a pretty confusing schedule, but maybe she has some hopes for some more WTA WCs as well.

Oh, and Mirjana's also on the alt. list for Prague Tier IV, for 28 April. :)

This week Mirjana's ranking jumped from 721 to 677. :)

Of course a bigger leap will come next week when she gets those 10 Charleston points. Getting in the top 600 next week will mean she can get into more of the good ITFs without needing wild cards, and even into lot more WTA Tier 3 and 4s if she's willing to travel a lot.

MIKI RANKING WATCH 2008:

Mirjana's ranking leaped more than 100 spots this week to 551. This will make it a lot easier to get into the events she wants to play. :)

I don't know what Mirjana's planning to do the week of May 5 -- maybe she's hoping for a Berlin WC? :confused:
But the following week, when she has 10 points to defend in Rome, she has entered a 50K in France. It's great to see that she keeps entering events just about every 2nd week; if she keeps it up, she will find the consistency she needs in her game and her ranking will keep on climbing, even if she doesn't get a Rome WC again.

Once she reaches the top 500, she can start entering the Tier I's and Tier II's again. :)

I'm proud of her progress. :)

it's great that she's committed to playing matches. and it's paying off too. she's winning more and the matches she's losing are getting more competitive (to the point that she probably should have beaten castano and lepchenko :p )

Elena Bovina and Jelena Dokic are also on the Caserta list. I wish they'd all play there; it would be a great reunion of the old-timers. :D
But probably none of them will end up playing there, since Miki and Lena would rather play the 50K, and Jelena signs up for all the Italian challengers but always withdraws. :(

When I saw on the blog that she didn't arrive in Prague until Thursday, I thought, UH-OH :o ! In my opinion, she didn't have enough time to get over jetlag or get used to the Prague climate and conditions. But probably she had a good reason for heading over there so late.

Anyway, now she's in Europe, so she won't have to travel so far to get to her next events. The only important thing is to KEEP PLAYING. Every week, if possible! I'm sure she'll do better in her next tournament. :)

In Caserta she'll probably be playing qualies, which I think is good. She won't be facing a player like Dokic in the qualies there,so maybe she can get some rhythm going in her game and work her way into the main draw, like Jelena did this week.

That's okay. I'm a fan of both, too, but I was rooting for Mirjana in their match. So it all evens out. :yeah:

I really hope they'll be on opposite sides of the draw in Caserta. Then after that, I hope Mirjana will get into some WTA events. I've noticed that she's entering every single one of them that she's allowed to with her current ranking, which means she's on every Tier 3 and Tier 4 entry list coming up. I have high hopes for her playing either Istanbul or Strasbourg.

Mirjana seems to getting her form back bit by bit and that's very encouraging. She's definitely way fitter than her "glory days" so there's no reason she can't continue to move up the rankings with those amazing groundstrokes. I actually think she'll have even better results on hard courts this year. I really wish she'd play some grass event as well - her game would really come alive on that surface!

I'm hoping Mirjana will play Caserta as well and the draw should be out tomorrow. I think there's 17 confirmed in the entry list, + 3 WC's, + Dokic as SE, + 8 qualifiers, so we've got a total of 29 players for a 32 player draw, so Mirjana should get in hopefully. I'm thinking there's one more WC with her name on it hopefully!

I am afraid that something like that could happend.:devil:
But I think that Mirjana wants to play and that she took a week of to be positive that she will play Strasbourg qualies. If she would get into SF of caserta then she wouldn't be able to go to France. But if she doesn't play Strasbourg this is stupid. Cause she would have to play only 1 match in quali Caserta against some amater.
It would really suck if she would quit now when she finally started with good tennis..:drool:

Very exciting that Mirjana will play here. Hopefully she'll do well. She'll need to come through qualifying, right? I see she is still on the alternates list, but there are 12 players who are MDO above her in qualies, so that should let her get into the quali field at least. Looks like Dokic is here as well, hopefully they won't have to play each other in qualifying!

Miki will play against Alberta Brianti in Galatina R1. It's ok draw. Miki can win this one, I hope she can win the tournament!

Brianti's a pretty good player, I've seen her live. Won't be an easy match for Mirjana, I'll be impressed if she can win that.
