I believe it is the top 8, but I'll have t check on that. And I remebered that Henin-Hardenne isn't playing so I'll update the list

That would be incredible wouldn't it. I think Davenport will withdraw if not she probably will lose early unless she has a quick recovery.

Tati is in need of a big win though. Hasn't had one since Charleston.

first, i just hope tati's fully healthy for this tournament.

second, another tough draw for her. chakvetadze definitely isn't an easy opponent in the 1st round. she has a good shot against either 2nd round opponent but schnyder is then next. i'm hoping she can get to the 3rd round.

if she beats schnyder, i think she can make the final though! before that, good luck in the 1st round tati!

Tough first round for Tati but I like her chances if she wins that one. I don't think Zuluaga or Benesova can trouble her. Schnyder should be tough but considering how much tennis she will have played in the past two weeks it could help a fresh Tati.

Here is hoping she does well.

With Lindsay's withdrawal the draw is pretty good for Tati now, Putty has been moved and now Tati's rival in the 3rd will be Likhovtseva :bounce::bounce::bounce:

and more good news, Tati will also be playing doubles with Elena Dementieva. Team Golontieva play a WC team in the first round and Likhovtseva/Zvonareva(2) in the second rd. :)

I say it is a nightmare season because of her poor results in the grand slams and since Charleston. The only slam result she improved upon was the French Open and she did significantly worse at Aussie and Wimbledon.

Taxi for Tati :fiery: well actually she just needs a coach. I was really shocked with the result despite the lengthy lay off. Hopefully she'll do OK in the doubles to get some practice in before Toronto. Her confidence must be very low as well.

rseto
Aug 2nd, 2005, 01:24 AM
well the result was not surprising but it still sucks! anna also hadn't played since wimbledon so i'm not sure if the long layoff was a factor. the only question i have is when tati started practicing again after her injury but i don't think any one of us knows that.

for me, this has been more like two seasons. from the beginning of the year to april, i thought that she could beat anybody below the top 10. now i don't consider her the favorite against anybody in the top 50. and she's losing points compared to last year. so these past 3-4 months are sorta nightmarish. i'm hoping this is temporary but i also wonder if opponents are figuring out how to play her better.

i hope she and elena can advance in doubles just to give her more match play and hopefully some confidence.

ZAK
Aug 2nd, 2005, 01:30 AM
Its not opponents figuring out how to play her, because she were playing well that wouldn't matter. I think its the injury affecting her mentality and confidence; once she wins another match I think she'll start to gain confidence and get back on track.

Tati and Elena should kill the WC team they play first round, I guess that could give Tati some confidence

rseto
Aug 2nd, 2005, 01:41 AM
true but there is such a thing as a sophomore slump when other players learn about her game and her patterns. but this is women's tennis and maybe i'm giving too much credit to scouting. :)

anyways, i do hope this is more injury related but it's been a while since she got injured. at least the AP story said that it was an evenly played matched FWIW.

Tati's nightmare season continued today with a miserable 6-4, 6-4 loss to Chakvetadze.

A nightmare-season that includes a victory over Venus Williams! :)

Tatiana's ankle-injury was unfortunate, and occurred at the worst possible time of year (especially from my perspective, as an Englishman who was hoping to be very impressed by her at Birmingham (http://www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/shara/birmingham2005.html) and Wimbledon). But if she can put that behind her, I think she has a bright future ahead of her.

A nice win for Anna Chakvetadze too. She's adorable! ;)

Tati has done very well for only being 17. i think this is part of the sophomore slump as mentioned. i think Tati is starting to feel the pressure to win, like she should be winning. Tati even said in an interview before Wimbledon last year she would be happy to win a round or two and this year she feels like she should be winning them.

hopfully Tati can have a solid rest of the year, and even better years to come in the future. i mean shes top 25 in the world at 17, lets not write her off yet. ;)

Just some information on their WC opponents:

Biffy Kaufman: singles- #730; got a qualifying WC into San Diego and lost 6-0 6-0 to Marissa Irvin
doubles- #571; has had some good runs at 10k events

Lindsey Nelson: singes- unranked; put up a good fight in San Diego qualifying taking Shika Uberoi to three sets
doubles- unranked; has won only won professional doubles match, and in came in the qualifying of a 50k in 2003
