Like a 3rd round match at a slam for example?

yes, but probably not against the sisters. Probably against a Russian. Let's not forget she has beaten Molik this year in Dubai!!

Daniela's biggest problem is her mental game. Mentally she has letdowns in the matches she plays. If she would work on that she would win a lot more big matches.

She sure has the game to do so. Mentally, that's another story. once she builds her confidence level up a couple notches, she will.

I think so, she played pretty well today, Venus just had more winners. She's improved and will improve more

No. Daniela is too mentally weak during a tight or important situation. She was 5-5 40-0 up threw in a DF and started getting annoyed by Richard Williams and lost total concentration. She's beaten only 2 top 20 players since last year, Molik twice and a slumping at the time Likhovtseva. And they weren't in big matches.

The question that we should really ask is if Dani will ever win a title again cos she shows no signs of ever doing it. :o

Well said.

Daniela has had chances to win big matches. At the USO last year she wasted a few match points against Schynder in the 3rd Round. Then at the AO she lost to Dementieva in a close 3 setter where she had chances, but didn't take them. Then today, she could have made this even closer, possibly a 3 setter, or even a win. I mean if Daniela could have won the 1st set, she would have been much more positive in the 2nd set.

Daniela has been very consistant in the slams. She's made 5 straight 3rd rounds. She's living of to her GS seeding. She just needs another big win or tournament like in Dubai & Doha to get her going again.

She always finds a way to lose. She's a terrible closer against anyone ranked ahead of her.

I agree. I think that she is a good player, but she needs to work on her confidence. She has the game to win big matches, but she doesn't have the belief in herself. If she gets more confidence, she'll win the big matches.

Yeah, she plays her game too pretty. She never quite learned that sometimes you have to get dirty and mean to win the match

she beat justine at the 02' us open like 7-6 in the third or something in the 4th round...she's won big matches in the past....but ever since that slump she has been a big chocker on the big stages...she really should have a won a couple of titles by now (eastbourne 04' coming to mind)

I don't think. She's becoming thinner again...
She will probably have some problems with her mental, game, ... again.

That's what the Cocktail Party says every year. Never happens.

She could do much better if she had the mental strength...

Even at her peak, she wasn't beating top players. I don't see why it'll start now. She just doesn't have a complete game and the fire to step up to the plate.

Well if she Can Compete with Davenport and Have Matchpoints against her and Take her to a third set Tiebreak.. I think she has the game to beat them... Davenport is a player who can beat anybody and if you beat her, its saying something

Yes she will. It's realli her mental game that needs work atm.. the minute she sees that all the hard work she's been doing to win a set and almost win a match but suddenly gets nervous and stops playing at her tope form, she totally goes downhill and is very emotional and it shows. Her opponents then takes advantage of that and fights back at her.

oh Danka.. come on, get some mental toughness! you can do this! :boxing:

Hantuchova could easily take out someone like Dechy or Jankovic in a GS thrid round.

Look at her draws in third rounds this year though. Elena D., Kim, Venus, Venus. If that isn't unlucky idk what is.

Daniela's just had her best year since 2002. She's improved a lot in the mental department since 2003/4, although she still has lapses.

On her day she's capable of beating anyone. The problem is that the top players are very much aware of her talent, so they never let their level drop as they might against a little-known player.

Daniela can match the top players shot for shot, but at some point in the match her bubble bursts, and it's very difficult for her to recover from that against the very top players.

But she should certainly get past the third round of a Grand Slam again - she's just been very unlucky with the draws in the last eight Slams.

that's what i wanted to say....concerning her draws....she got Venus in the 2 slams she won (well she got Venus...point) and Kim & Elena....poor thing. i can understand she is frustrated.

i remember after her loss against Venus, at the us i think, she told she felt like she was playin good, but couldn't change the draw. i like her, i hope 2006 will be a good year, in facts.

Dani "took out the trash" twice in three chances this fall. If she can keep that up, long live the Cult Cocktail Party! :D
