View Full Version : WTA World 2005 Eurovision Song Contest -URGENT - JUDGES NEEDED - PLEASE COMMIT SOON!

Hi everybody :wavey:

Yes, it's that time of year again - Eurovision Song Contest Time :)

Last year we had an official WTA World Eurovision Song Contest, where we, the members of WTA World were the judges for each country, and in last year's final Cyprus narrowly defeated Ukraine.

This year we will be running WTA World's very own Eurovision Song Contest again - however the jury system will be a little different.

Last year we only allowed 1 judge for each country - but this year each country can have unlimited jury members :) You are required to committ to the country whose jury you would like to be part of, and you should post your points like the real contest. You do not have to be from a European country to participate, however European members are encouraged to be on the jury for their home country. WTA World members outside Europe are encouraged to join juries for countries with few members from WTA World, for example, Moldova, Andorra, Lithuania etc so we can ensure all 39 countries are represented.

Instructions

Rate your 10 best songs, using ONLY the songs that were entered in the final, you ARE NOT ALLOWED to vote for countries who lost in the semi-final. You are also NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE FOR THE COUNTRY YOU ARE VOTING FROM, for example, if you are on the French jury, you are not allowed to vote for France :p Once you have rated your 10 best songs from the final, you must give them points in descending order using this system:

1st - 12 points
2nd - 10 points
3rd - 8 points
4th - 7 points
5th - 6 points
6th - 5 points
7th - 4 points
8th - 3 points
9th - 2 points
10th - 1 point

When you post, you are also required to say this before you state your points, for example:

Good evening Kiev, this is andrew_uk calling with votes for the United Kingdom jury :p

Because we are allowing unlimited jury members this year, it means that when you vote, your points will influence the final points your jury gives overall. All points from each jury member will be added together, and whichever country has the highest total points will be awarded 12 points from that jury and so on.

For example, say andrew_uk and raquel are the only jury members for the United Kingdom and they posted these points:

andrew_uk:

12 - Malta
10 - Germany
8 - Bulgaria
7 - Croatia
6 - Latvia
5 - Poland
4 - Russia
3 - Ireland
2 - Bosnia & Herzegovina
1 - Finland

raquel:

12 - Sweden
10 - Germany
8 - Bulgaria
7 - Malta
6 - Lithuania
5 - Poland
4 - Finland
3 - Ireland
2 - Latvia
1 - Bosnia & Herzegovina

The points are then added together, and countries are ranked in order of who has the most points:

1. Germany = 20 (10+10)
2. Malta = 19 (12+7)
3. Bulgaria = 16 (8+8)
4. Sweden = 12 (12)
5. Poland = 10 (5+5)
6. Croatia = 7 (7+0)
7. Latvia = 8 (6+2)
8. Lithuania = 6 (6+0)
9. Russia = 6 (4+2)
10. Ireland = 6 (3+3)
11. Bosnia & Herzegovina = 3 (2+1)

These overall point totals will determine the overall votes for the entire jury, with the top 10 countries being awarded 12,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 points respectively, hence the UK jury would award:

Germany = 12 points
Malta = 10 points
Bulgaria = 8 points
Sweden = 7 points
Poland = 6 points
Croatia = 5 points
Latvia = 4 points
Lithuania = 3 points
Russia = 2 points
Ireland = 1 point

Don't worry too much about the points, as long as you post your top 10 songs in order you will be fine :lol:

If judges do not post 10 countries, their vote will be void.

In the case of countries with equal points, the country who has the most 12s will be placed higher, if the number of 12s is equal, then we go by 10s, then 8s then 7s and so on.

The list of jury members will appear in post #2 :) :wavey:

i would just like to say that your judging system has a flaw in it -
firstly there are 40 (!!!) countries this year, not 39.
it would have been 41, but lebanon can't broadcast the israeli song, and so they won't be participating at all (which is in my idea unfortunate but very fair - they prefer not participating than blacking out the screens every time israel wins a point or something. in israel the dumb buffons would do something nasty, so way to go lebanon!)

the second and bigger mistake is what happens in case of tie.
this is what they call "grand prix eurovision winner" -
from the SBS (special broadcast service. the official site still doesn't have it on cuz the ukraines have a lousy site - but these are the rules, i can swear it) official website -
39 Should there be a tie for first place
a. The Eurovision title shall be awarded to the songs that have obtained points from the highest number of countries.
b. If the songs received votes from the same number of countries, then the highest number of 12 point scores shall qualify.
c. If the winner can not be determined by this procedure, then the number of times 10 points have been awarded shall be the deciding factor, if necessary, this method shall cont until account has been taken of the number of times 1 point has been awarded. The same method shall be applied if there is a tie for a position number 10 in the Qualifying Round

40 Should 2 or more songs tie for first place, even after the above, both/all such songs shall share the title of winners of the Eurovision Song Contest

thank you.
p.s Good luck belarus! very cool song.

The rules for the WTA World Eurovision Song Contest match the rules of the real contest - and if you look in post 1, I clearly mentioned what you said in b and c in ur post:

In the case of countries with equal points, the country who has the most 12s will be placed higher, if the number of 12s is equal, then we go by 10s, then 8s then 7s and so on.

:) :wavey:

CooCooCachoo

Andrew, I think you should allow a maximum of two (maybe three) voters per country. Because right now it is rather ridiculous. Great Britain has like seven voters and this makes the individual British votes so much less important than e.g. Albania's votes. I don't think it is fair :)

So you should ask some British players to represent a different country (but still not allow them to vote for Great Britain).

andrew_uk
May 10th, 2005, 05:15 PM
Sorry, but we cannot allow people to just join random juries as this enables tactical voting :p It's much worse if somebody joins a random jury, gives maximum points to the country where they are really from then how worthy an individual's votes are :wavey:

andrew_uk
May 10th, 2005, 05:17 PM

Anyway, I do think it is ridiculous that an Albanian vote will count seven times heavier than a British vote.

Population never is reflected in the ESC and it should not be done now either. It is a joke, should someone's votes count so much more than someone else's.

there is like 7 people in united kingdom. what is i want ... [insert country] ... as 12 points, but [insert uk juror] gives them 1? yes i know its the average. but that SUCKS. :p

i will stand by my point. :mad: ;)

James - I was absolutely outraged at some of the songs that made the final - I felt Latvia deserved to - but I also felt that Netherlands, Belarus and Portugal did - I think Portugal had technical problems at the start and this let them down :(

I know, some of the songs that made it were awful. My personal favourite in the semi-finals was Estonia. I also feel that the Netherlands should have at least made it. She had the best voice by far, but probably that is not a criterion anymore.
