I was at Domi's match with Madison Brengle. Madison is a player that is frustrating to play against because she runs everything down. You have to be patient against her, construct your points well, make your shots and take advantage of your chances. Domi had far too many errors. Her forehand was all over the place. Her serve was sporatic and she was like 1 for 10 on break points. She had her chances to get even but couldn't win the big points. Madison kept the ball on the court and waited for Domi to make an error which she did most of the time.

Domi still needs to become more consistent and work on her serve. The effort is there. The desire is there. She just needs the consistency

Brengle plays aggressive at the appropriate times. She just keeps the ball in play for a lengthy period of time but when she gets the chance to hit a winner, she takes it. The biggest difference in that match was that Madison took advantage of her break opportunities and Domi didn't. The match could've been a whole lot different if Domi would have coverted a few more of her break points. What was frustrating on many of these points was that Domi had unforced errors. A couple of times she hit the return long.

Well done Domi!! Good win, good luck against Vika. Azarenka is a challenge for Domi. She can't get into a power game with Vika. She needs to be creative and use her variety. Domi needs to hit slices and vollies and keep Azarenka on the move.

TASHKENT OPEN (Tashkent, Uzbekistan; outdoor hard; WTA Tier IV)
=============

Interesting reports from http://www.uztennis.uz/ (http://www.uztennis.uz/)

1r + Dominika Cibulková [Q] d. GALINA VOSKOBOEVA [7], 5-7 6-4 7-6 (7/2)
>>>
Cibulková, 17, who survived four match-points in her final qualifying round match on Sunday, again showed great fighting qualities in her 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Voskoboeva, the tall 21-year-old No 7 seed.

Voskoboeva had her chances in the match, especially once after she overcame a 2-5 deficit to win the first set 7-5. She was 4-2 up in the second but then lost four straight games to lose the set.

She served for the match in the 10th game of the third set but was broken. In the next game, she had three break-points but couldn't convert them, because of her own errors, especially at the net.

In the deciding tie-breaker, Cibulková raced away after rain caused a halt at 2-2 and won the match when a despondent Voskoboeva netted two returns of serve.

"I'm happy that I won," said Cibulková, who is making the second round of a WTA event for the second time in her young career (the first was at Istanbul in May, beating Ashley Harkleroad).

"But my play was not good. I was nervous. In fact, we were two nervous players on court."

Asked how she felt when Voskoboeva was serving for the match, Cibulková replied: "I tried not to think she was serving for the match. I told myself to play my shots, like in practice."
<<<

2r - Dominika Cibulková [Q] lt. Victoria Azarenka, 4-6 4-6
>>>
The match between Azarenka and Cibulková, at 17 the two youngest players in the tournament (the Slovak is two months older), was a contrast in styles. Azarenka, 1.8 m tall, with a powerful serve and a grunt to go with each of her solid groundstrokes, against Cibulková, 1.6m tall, a counter-puncher with greater variety in her strokemaking.

There was the also the matter of rankings. Azarenka, last year's ITF junior world champion and winner of the Australian and US Open junior titles, was in the top 100 a couple of weeks ago, before dropping to 130 now. Cibulková, is 254 now, with a career-high ranking of 248.

In the event, Azarenka's superior serving won her the match, though she said later that her backhand was her strength. After having won the first set with an ace at set-point, she got into trouble in the second, 0-40 down in the seventh game. But excellent serves kept her in the game and she won it after four deuces, saving five break-points in all.

Then, while serving for the match, she faced break-point again but two good serves gave her a match-point and she claimed victory when Cibulková netted a forehand in the next point.

1/4final: Cibulkova def. Pironkova 7:6(6), 6:4

One of the best matches of this tournament. Both girls played very well, hitting the ball hard from the baseline. In first set Dominika was down 0-2, 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4, but she came back to 5 all and 6 all respectivelly. In the tie-break Tsveti led after a two minibreaks 3-2. Next, she lost her serve at 4 all, but she broke Domi twice and led 6-5. Domi is a great fighter, she broke Pironkova back to 6 all and again to 6-7 and won the first set. In 2nd set Domi was broken in first (0-1) and fifth game (2-3), but always she hold on with her aggresive play. Finally, she converted her first match point at Pironkovas serve (*30-40). For me it was a dramatic a high-quality match. Tsveti lost, but in both sets it was very close.

Match history
1st set (CP to serve first): *1-0, 2-0*, *2-1, 3-1*,*4-1, 4-2*, *5-2, 5-3*, *5-4, 5-5*, *6-5, 6-6*
Tie-break (CP to serve first): *1-0, 2-0*, 2-1*, *2-2, *3-2, 3-3*, 3-4*, *4-4, *4-5, 5-5*, 6-5*, *6-6, *6-7, 6-8*

2nd set (DC to serve first): *0-1, 1-1*, *2-1, 2-2*, *2-3, 3-3*, *4-3, 4-4*, *5-4, 6-4*

1/2final: Cibulkova def. Tu 4:6, 7:5, 3:1 ret.

Meilen was on the winning streak against Dominika. But after third game in deciding set she called for a doctor. She had a problem with her back. She was on serve after treatment (was 1-2 down), but made only 4 pounts and gave up. Generally it was a good match, full of breaks and re-breaks (14 in first two sets). In 1st set Dominika broke her opponent in the 2nd game (2-0), but Meilen broke back (2-1). Domi and Meilen lost her serves two more times. At 4-3 for DC Meilen hold her serve (4 all), broke Domi again (4-5) and had converted her third set point. In 2nd set Meilen broke Dominika in 1st, 4th and 9th game, led 3-1 and 4-1. At 5-4 she served for the match, but lost her serve (5-5). Domi held on to 6-5 and finally broke Meilen to 7-5. After the break to 3-1 in 3rd set Meilen retired from the match.
Final opponent ist Kristina Barrois.

It was not a extraordinary match. In first set Kristina led after a break 2-0, but Dominika came back and at 5-4 she wasted three setpoints. Kristina held to 5 all, but in the 12th game Domi broke her serve and have converted her fourth setpoint. In the 2nd set Dominika made short work with Kristina, who looked disinterested and played the same kind of tennis (it was her 8th match on the tournament, may be she was tired). Domi led 5-0, Kristina held to 5-1, but it was too late. Dominika got for the vicotry 11.160 USD and 65 pts into WTA singles ranking. She will jump into the TOP 200 for the first time.

Yes I am a new fan of hers. I needed to start rooting for a player outside the top 100 so I chose her. I like Daniela now as well but I'll be pulling for Dominika.
