Very tough. I think the top 5 can actually rotate any of a number of ways in my top 10.
Justine could easily slip into the top 5 as well, and I may change my mind about Henin based on her performance at the French.
The reason I put Martina so low is that she will have to play an awful lot of tournaments to keep up with the top few.
At the moment, she can't seem to compete with the top 3 on my list, so winning tournament that they are involved in will be tough.
But if she can continue to consistantly make Quarters and Semis at all the tournaments she enters, she many hold onto a top 5 spot.
I put Daniela 5th because I think she can grow into almost the best....number 1, but I don't want to jump the gun....putting her in front of Martina will make for enough interesting conversation as is....without actually putting her above the others into No. 1, I'd be killed for that...hehehe.
I only made a top 8 because there is just no other obvious contenders, the rest are on par with each other or injured at the moment.

Lindsay IS coming back, and she WILL kick ass!:hearts:

also, how overrated is daniela hantuchova??? aren't we jumping a little too high a little too soon? the girl won exactly one title, in a shockingly wattered down event. she won the title with out having to face Jen, Venus, Serena, Monica, Kim, Justin, Jelena or Lindsay... she's a nice girl, but I wouldn't get so excited so soon.

How can any of you say with a straight face that Martina will be number one a year from now? Well, maybe you did not say it with a straight face, maybe you laughed yourself to sleep to keep from crying yourself to sleep.

None of you have the slightest idea what is in store a year from now. Anything can happen. Let's just hope that all the ladies stay healthy, Linds come back, Mary's return is a success, Serena keeps up her good form, Venus come out blazing in the spring and summer, Marti adds another demension to her game, Justine stops the little hiccup she's been having, Kim stays healthy, Monica rests up and continue being the great champion that she is, Daniela really is the real deal and so on...;)

Domingo2, I think your rational is wrong. Obviously Venus and Serena don't need to play in the same number of tourneys to make it to the top. How many tourneys did Venus have on the books when she made it to the top a few weeks ago? ANd look at Serena with 9 tourneys on the books and she's at #7 and less than three hundred points away from being at number 4. Do you know anything about tennis?;)

God, I LOVE this thread, every time it comes up (once a month for the past 3 years). I don't think I could ever get tired of seeing poster after poster dial Monica Seles into the 7-10 slot. Some of these people were probably predicting the same thing at the end of 91, I just wish I had been on the Net to see it.

Good luck with those predictions folks.

Guys, these ARE all predictions so they are based on what each member thinks each player will do in the next year.

To say you can't believe people are putting Martina 1, or Seles outside the top 6 is silly.
There just PREDICTION. I based my ten on what I think will occur in the next few months and for the rest of the years time period.

I guarantee I will be wrong about almost every position, and thats because I'm not nostradamus.

Playing the worst year of her career last year, Martina Hingis was #1. She only lost that when she became injured late September. After Wimbledon she will be about #2 or so, and as soon as she begins to play the fall events, she will EASILY become #1.

1) Martina Hingis
2) Serena Williams
3) Monica Seles
4) Venus Williams
5) Kim Clijsters
6) Lindsay Davenport
7) Jennifer Capriati
8) Justine Henin
9) Sandrine Testud
10) Anna Kournikova (She is on track to play over 30 events. When she gets her ranking up and gets seeded in events, she'll be top twenty at the end of this year, and top 10 after the Australian season)
