Jelena went into Rabat with a 2-4 win/loss record for 2005, but came out with a 6-5 w/l. She qualified for the loss of just six games in three matches, beating Carolina Malheiros 6-0 6-1, Vanina García Sokol 5-0 retired, and beautiful Dominika Cibulková 6-4 6-1.
I had not heard of Cibulková before Jelena drew her (she was playing her first-ever WTA tournament, after all), but thanks to timosalver of the jeldani Yahoo! Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jeldani/) for finding the following photos:
Cibulková is a very pretty Slovakian girl with a lovely smile. She looks like Gisela Dulko, only more so (Dulko is a Polish name I believe). She is even better looking than Slovakia's other Dominika (Nociarová).
Cibulková also reminds me of when I saw another pretty little Slovakian girl on the Internet in 1999, and made a wish for her to make it to the big time. Her name was Daniela Hantuchová (http://www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/hantu/daniela.jpg).
Dominika Cibulková was born on 6th May 1989, so "Št'astné Narodeniny" to her!
In the first round of the main draw, Jelena beat another Slovenka, L'ubomíra Kurhajcová, 6-2 6-2. The following report appeared on Teletext (UK):
Former world No 4 Jelena Dokic enjoyed a rare win of late as she beat L'ubomíra Kurhajcová of Slovakia 6-2 6-2 to reach the second round in Morocco.
The 22-year-old's career has been hit by off-the-court problems and a series of injuries, and had won just just two matches before this week's tournament.
But having qualified for the event, Dokic was a worthy winner and now plays top seed Li Na of China in round two.
In the second round, Jelena's run finally came to an end against top seed Li,Na by 6-0 3-6 6-2. On the one hand, Li has been easy pickings for the Super Maria Sisters this year (Australian Open: Sharapova d. Li 6-0 6-2; Hyderabad: Kirilenko d. Li 6-4 6-3). On the other hand, Li stunned Dinara Safina 6-1 6-1 at Estoril last week before losing the final to Lucie Šafár'ová (an 18-year-old Czech girl with very pretty eyes).
Jelena photos from Rabat:
IMO, Jelena is looking the best she has for months. I'm talking in terms of attractiveness, but I hope this translates to her being in better shape! :o
In conclusion, I think Jelena's four wins at Rabat are a very important step forward for her. Even though they were against very weak opponents, it's important to Jelena's confidence to get a string of wins to her name. Winning becomes a habit, no matter what level of competition you play at.
