Kyung-mi Chang entered the main draw with special ranking #272. So, TAKASE goes to qualify draw.

Updated Entry List ( as of April 2)

Main draw
17 Kyung-Mi Chang KOR 272
25 FLORIS Anna ITA 310 --> Main draw cut off

Qualify Draw
1 TAKASE Ayami JPN 329
28 CHUANG Chia-Jung TPE 587 ---> Qualify Draw cut off

Waiting list for Qualifying
1 INOUE Maiko JPN 594
9 Yang-jin Chung KOR 648

And good thing is some juniors can enter this event with wildcards. It is supposed to be awarded to a winner (main draw) and runner-up(quali draw) in Lee Duk-Hee Cup Junior tounament.

Hope that So-jung Kim and Yu-mi Chung do well there to get the wild cards. :wavey:

Good luck to Su-Wei and Voracova! :)

Thanks for the info...

I'm planning on going to the tourney, and I'll try to give a report. I'm looking forward to seeing Hsieh. She and Widjaja seem to be two of the most promising Asian players in ages.

I will if I can. I have quite a few midterm exams that week, but they never used to stop me, so.. :o

Tommy might help you with that

I'll do my best with the reports. I guess I'll try to be the Bud Collins of Korea, ha ha.

I went to the regional Davis Cup matches here last year and I had a blast (I got a ball signed by Hyung-Taik Lee, which was way cool). So I can't wait to see this tourney either.

And Hoon, you should just bring your books with you to the courts and study there!!! Think of it, the best of both worlds. :)

3 wildcards(main & quali) were determined yesterday.

So-jung Kim and Da-jung Hong will fight for maindraw wildcard today,..... the loser will take quali wildcard.

In the ongoing junior tournament, Kim beat the defending champion, Yoo-Mi Chung and Hong beat Hee-sun Ryu from Bollieri to reach the final.

Semi-finalist Ryu got wildcard for quali, too,.. and another semi-finalist Chung will enter the quali with her ranking points thanks to lowered quali cut-off.

Hope that So-jung get the maindraw wildcard and play top seed Su-wei there. I think her aggressiveness can hamper Su-wei's solid play.
Would be interesting match from two promising young girls.

:D

As expected, So-jung Kim gets maindraw wildcard for this event. :D

She beat Da-jung Hong in three sets,.. 5-7 6-4 6-2. She was leading 4-1 in the first,.. then lost. I hope she wasn't tanking for her senior teammate. ;) Her first word after the match was,.." I'm sorry for her to win against her,... " something like that.

Anyway,... she will be the major force from Asia region along with Su-wei and Angie. I've seen their matches several times,... and So-jung's play is the most aggressive one.

Su-wei and Angie have solid stroke game,..(and Angie's all-round game),... but they don't have big weapon to hurt top players, yet. We could see that early this year,.... Jennifer crushing Angie with no mercy. :o
But they have surely top 30 potential, I think.

So-jung's game is not complete yet,... but she has more aggressive game,... strong forehand (of course one handed ;) ),.. good serve and volley,.. go to the net more....

It'd be interesting to see how they will progress this year.

:D

Hope that So-jung Kim & Mi-ra Jeon have good result here.

Go, girls!

Thanks for the news Eric! :wavey:

I must admit, I'm surprised that So-Jung came out as the winner, because her pro results previously have been very ordinary.

It's good to hear that she's an agressive player.

I heard though that Su-Jin Kim is the hardest hitting Korean junior. Do u know if this is true?
