Okay, now we can think about Charleston without jinxing! No doubles.

I can't remember how many points she has to defend here, my mind has gone blank as to what stage she reached. She did play here last year didn't she?
Help!!

I believe she lost in the semis to Serena 6-1 7-5.

Elldee
Apr 11th, 2005, 05:33 PM
No, she lost in the quarters to Patty Schnyder 6-3 6-2 [or something similar to that scoreline]. Lindsay will defend her points and then anything from then on is a bonus.

well, pfffft to the draw! Lindsay can still do it IMHO. She did great last week and she seems to really get her rhythm the more events she plays consecutively.

I was just on Ebay to see if I could find a Lindsay Davenport bobblehead (which i can't yet) but I came across this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1226&item=5184288835&rd=1

For those who can't make the Family Circle Cup (like me....being in the UK), FCC are running some auctions on Ebay to raise money for their charities. This is one of the lots and they are offering to get Lindsay to personalise an auto to the winning bidder so it would read, "[Your Name], All the Best, Lindsay Davenport". Two day's is left on the auction and it is up to US$26.00 (about £13.79). I have a feeling that it's going to keep going up with it being personalised.

Pity, I can't afford it this week :(

Oh well, just thought I'd let the rest of you know.

Justine overcame Jankovic but apparently Justine was a bit slow and it took 3 sets and Petrova beat Jankovic in Amelia who Lindsay destroyed.

LindsayRocks89
Apr 13th, 2005, 03:23 AM
Lindsay is number 1 and confident so i think she will beat justine if they play. i think her biggest problem will again be venus. if Venus plays like she did the 1st set of their match in amelia island Lindsay might be in trouble. of course Lindsay could also be playing better than that. We shall see.

Go Lindsay!!!!!!!!

Elldee
Apr 13th, 2005, 09:34 AM
Lindsay better play better than she did in Amelia Island... she was far too passive.

Looks like Lindsay [touch wood!] will face Kutusova - who she beat in the third round at Indian Wells rather than the seeded Zuluaga.

83% first serves
100% second serves
0 double faults
9 winners
20 points won altogether

Looking at the draw and who's left [Pierce just got knocked out], Lindsay has the nastiest draw of anybody in Henin Hardenne follow by Venus and then a final.

Apr 13th, 2005, 07:37 PM
oh rubbish! how is that when she is seed 1?????

Frederic

Crappy draw for Lindsay. But now she is much more confident, so she should defeat Venus easily...

well, a good win by Lindsay! :woohoo: Although the draw looks a bit tough, I think a few wins strung together against these players could be the confidence Lindsay needs on the clay surface.

Lets keep this going! Who's next vs. Lindsay and when?

Nice Lindsay. I hope they televise you're match tomorrow. I would LOVE to see you and Kutuzova.

I CAN'T wait to see Lindsay-Henin Hardene. I really want to Lindsay to win the tournament but really want to see that matchup. Maybe Iveta will knock her out? Doubt it. Oh well, it will be interesting at least.

Elldee
Apr 14th, 2005, 08:39 AM
I don't rate Benesova but maybe she's better on clay than on hardcourts. I want the match to take place and although it's clay, if Lindsay's going to win against Justine [and she'll be dissed in GM if she doesn't] then it's now!

Lindsay won 6-3 6-1. I watched the score board and I got worried when her 1st serve % plumeted from 60% down to 47% by the end of the first set. She managed to get that back up to 52% in her last service game of the match.

Yet again she was 5-0 up in the first and then dropped the next 3 games before closing the set out :grr:

2 dub faults, 3 aces, and 31 winners. Fastest serve 114mph. I'm quite impressed that these days she is serving consistantly in the 100/110mph section, whereas she only used to do between 95-100....a good serve used to be 105mph. I believe that, 105mph was her fastest when she won wimby in '99......well, she certainly isn't getting slow as she progresses in age.

Next up for Lindsay, I think is Justine Hammer-Hard'un but correct me if I'm wrong. An interesting prospect me thinks and surely a match to be shown on Eurocrap.

Friday, Eurocrap are showing "1/4" finals live on Euro1 at 18.00 UK time. At time of me going to bed, there was no schedule for friday, so I just hope it's Lindsay's match.....even though I'll be at work

All in all, a relatively good win......no time for snoozing against hammer-hard'un though!

GOOOOOOOOO LINDSAY!

positives....lindsay is number one, playing with confidence, justine has had some tough matches fatigue could be a factor...

negatives....its on clay and justine cheats.

oh dear :sobbing: Did eurocrap not show it then?! Gits! I even set the tape as well.

Lindsay always seems to injure herself in warm-up sessions......it's probably just a muscle strain and will heal in a couple of weeks. I have a feeling that we won't see her until Roland Garros now which will probably mean that her #1 will go before then.

Hope she will be OK. Well done anyway for taking the first set! Darn injuries! :grrr:

This sucks, Justine was not playing well at all and the clay court was more like a hardcourt... this would have been Lindsay's. I don't like Justine, she hit two balls really hard right near Lindsay after losing points... from when she retired I doubt Lindsay likes her either, it wasn't exactly warm.

Kelly
Apr 16th, 2005, 11:00 AM
i noticed the hittin of the balls as well...lindsay kinda glanced at her on the second one i think.

Yep, it was damn close! Lindsay was a step away from it... in Dubai against Zheng Lindsay had the courtesy of belting the ball out of the stadium.

This loss is really bad for me... she didn't beat Justine, she didn't win a tier I on clay when the draw was quite good and the surface was fast. Damn injuries!

LindsayRulez
Apr 16th, 2005, 02:14 PM
But there's no doubt in my mind that Lindsay would have won that match if she weren't injured. From game one she was limping and still took the first set pretty easily; Justine is nowhere near as strong as she was before she came back. This has to give Lindsay confidence for the next time they play, preferably on a grass or hard court ;)

lindsayno1
Apr 16th, 2005, 02:52 PM
lindsay played excellently imo considering the injury and would have trashed justine if she were fit! her shots were amazing!!! NEver mind. It was awful seeing her limp off at the end though :( :( :(

Of course, Linda can win Justine very easily if she didn't get hurt.
Now, i am really afraid that Maria will be the next No.1, because Lindsay will not go to Europe until the French Open.
Hopefully, Maria will get injured. Sounds a little contemptible, but i hope so.
God blesses Linda keeping No.1 until she retires! Thank you.

I never hope a player gets injured... if Lindsay got a major injury now she wouldn't be back. I'm sure Lindsay will get it back as the top four in the world at the moment were last years wimbledon semi finalists.

Linda. That sounds funny. Sounds like some prude, old, wrinkly secretary. :)

Sad for Lindsay. That second set was a little blah and so was the first a tad. I think there was only one WOW shot Lindsay had, that backhand she the painted the line with. Other than that, it was very meh like. But I'm glad that she didn't risk another injury and continue. Be healthy and lead the U.S. to another Fed Cup title Lindsay and just WIN EVERYTHING!

Pst, I'm getting confirmed tomorrow (Me Catholic) and when the Bishop asks me what he wants me to pray for, I will tell him, "For Lindsay to win one more slam!!!" Hehe.

www.familycirclecup.com --- click on player interviews. She says she's going to go to the Fed Cup place, get treatment and be part of the team... she says this injury usually takes about a week to heal and she thinks she'll be fine by the fed cup matches.
