Last year Lindsay was runner up at Indian Wells and won her first clay tournement and hopefully she'll defend against this year too :D I want her to hold onto the number spot for a wee while longer.

Lindsay, this title is yours! AGAIN! Lucky #3 woo hoo! :)

Andrew.
Apr 3rd, 2005, 12:08 AM
She won't need much to keep #1. Mauresmo isn't defending her final with win over a #1, and Maria didn't win Miami and isn't playing here. Plus, we can gain in Charleston. Neither field is really that strong, so I think in one or both a final is reachable.

You should all visit be on Becca's forums.

Lindsay, you have a great chance to win here again.

she has Venus in her qtr, and Myskina is her potentil in the semis, and Serena in the finals.

Andrew.
Apr 3rd, 2005, 04:15 AM
Oh. Venus in the QF.

I just don't think Lindsay has enough confidence against Venus, still. US Open was a great match from Lindsay, but the fact is that she should have absolutely whore slapped Venus there. And, there were some serious issues closing that one out. :p

Lindsay can beat Venus. Show up, hit crap to the forehand, and it goes out. It's a really simple gameplan, and it's one that Lindsay has stuck to in their last few matches. Slam bam wham. 6-2 6-2. But this never happens. Break point conversion is key. In the last three matches that Lindsay beat Venus, that has always been a statistic that doesn't look great. As I said, at the US Open, there were a ton of chances to kill that match and dominate. But, we let Venus hang around for alot longer than she should have.

Venus is playing a bit better now. I'm not taking anything out of the Miami win over Serena. But the fact is that if Lindsay serves decently and hits crap to the forehand, she wins.

That being said, I really won't be shocked at all if she loses this. I firmly believe she still has mental issues with certain players, Venus included.

Elldee
Apr 3rd, 2005, 10:57 AM
Why couldn't we have Petrova or Zvonereva? Venus's movement is just going to be ridiculous and she's going to get every ball back, although thank God it's green clay and not red! I'm not sure, Lindsay has a lot of respect for Venus and her game but knows what she's capable of at Amelia Island... she'll give it her best to try and defend.

Kelly

good luck lindsay.

Loughyunijen
Apr 3rd, 2005, 12:40 PM
Hmmmmmm Venus in the Quater Finals! Thats not what I was looking for....Venus has picked her game up alot.....since lindsay last played her! Venus movement is awesome at the moment...and venus's serve is HOT!! When she played in Miami...she served well through out the whole tournament! Eeeekk! Im was surprized she beat serena actually was really sure that serena would come through on that, but she picked her off pretty easily. I Think Venus is back....and with Kim and justine back too.....boy the tour is heating up!

I completely agree with Andrew, Lindsay can win this match over Venus, she has the weapons to do so! And as andrew said...its allabout attacking venus's forehand..as this breaks down all the time..and is not technally mechanically good! She has big technique problems with her forehand...so exposing this could give lindsay a major advantage! It will all come down to whether she has the selfbelief in herself and has the confidence to say yeah..this is mine, I can take it!

What ever happens.....ill be happy as long as she gives it her all....100% and then if she loses, she cant say she hasnt done her best!

Go Linds.......2 great Tournies to get, Im sure you can do it! LETS Go!!!!!!!!

i still wouldnt underestimate the big Davey!

Elldee
Apr 3rd, 2005, 02:23 PM
Yeah, Lindsay says she's a traditionalist in that she exploits weaknesses so as long as she goes forehand to forehand with Venus - and her own forehand holds up - she could win here and keep her run of matches against Venus going. Lindsay should definately watch the US Open match, she was immense. Lindsay will be rested and hopefully don't some good clay court practice.

Apr 3rd, 2005, 11:37 PM
So other than Venus, who should Lindsay be concerned about?

I don't know how Myskina play against Kim, but I know her year so far has been, meh.

Who are ya'll prediciting for a SF? I, knowing little, am saying Conchita or Jelena J.? I have never seen Nadia play on clay so I don't know about her and Myskina I would predict would fall to Conchita, but I'm vague on this matchup on clay also.

Ya'll?

Yes, sensible girl I agree.

Tough draw for her but a fully fit, rested Lindsay can win this:angel:

I'd quite like her to play doubles but every other or every third tournement, playing doubles at Pan Pacific was insane... she does have a busy month coming up though with Amelia, Charlston and Fed Cup.

Arh i saw that 2nd round match with lindsay ad Brandi last year.....played on court 18!!! I hope Alan Mills and all rest of schedulers get lindsay sorted out where she SHOULD be this year ie courts CC or C1 !!!!!!! none of this court 3, 18 malarki....christ shes the number 1 player in the world!

lindsay wiped the floor with her.....but she was injured (ankle problem), still she is sooooo small...and llindsay mut surely intimidate her.......both her height and world position! ;)

I agree give her a couple of games........after all u did just win best sportsmanship! ;)

Very happy with Lindsay's win. I don't care what they say about UE, 49 winners is nice. :)

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. (AP) -- Lindsay Davenport left Amelia Island with a new puppy, another Bausch & Lomb title and renewed confidence in her clay-court game.

The last one might be the most important, especially with the French Open a little more than a month away.

Davenport's powerful serve helped her offset 36 unforced errors and beat Silvia Farina Elia 7-5, 7-5 Sunday to win the Bausch & Lomb Championships for the second consecutive year and the third time overall.

``This is a huge win for me,'' Davenport said. ``Whenever I can win on clay and in a really tough tournament, it gives me a lot of excitement.''

Davenport joined Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf and Gabriela Sabatini as the event's only three-time winners.

Now she would like to join Navratilova, Evert and Graf as French Open champions. Davenport hasn't reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros since 1999. The French also is the only Grand Slam that eludes the 28-year-old Californian, who won the U.S. Open in 1998, Wimbledon in 1999 and the Australian Open in 2000.

The cushy, green clay at the Amelia Island Plantation has been much more kind. Davenport won the event in 1997 and then again last year.

``For me, I'm playing my best when I'm playing hard-court tennis on clay,'' Davenport said. ``I don't want to just get balls in and build points. The shorter the point, the better.''

Davenport trailed 5-4 in the second set, but broke Farina Elia twice to capture her 47th career singles title. She took advantage of four unforced errors by the 32-year-old Italian to even the set at 5, then held serve to move ahead 6-5.

Davenport missed her first chance to clinch the match when Farina Elia reached a crosscourt drop shot and returned it to an open court. But Davenport bounced back two points later with a forehand winner that landed just inside the end line.

``I did all I could today,'' Farina Elia said. ``Lindsay came up with unbelievable points at big times in the game.''

Davenport finished with seven aces and 48 winners, but also had four double faults and had her serve broken five times.

Still, she won a crystal bowl and $93,000 to go along with her title at the tour's first clay-court event of the year. She also became the first player this season to accumulate more than $1 million in prize money.

In addition to the rewards, Davenport also picked up a new pet this week when she adopted a Rottweiler-Chow mix from the local humane society.

``I don't know what I'm getting myself into,'' said Davenport, who already has two Rottweilers at home.

Davenport, her mother and the new puppy traveled to Charleston, S.C., on Sunday night for another clay-court event, next week's Family Circle. After that, Davenport will play in the Fed Cup, then take time off before heading to Paris.

Although she admittedly prefers hard-court tennis, Davenports insists her success has more to do with her schedule than the surface.

She believes that spending too much time overseas before the French has made her homesick and eager to return to the United States.

She plans to change that this year and hopes her success at Amelia Island will finally carry over to the French Open. She followed both previous victories at the Bausch & Lomb with losses in the round of 16 at the French.

``People have their opinions of what they think is best for me,'' she said. ``But I know myself pretty well and I know the best shot I have at the French is starting off in Paris and just going from there. Being in Europe for three of four weeks prior is not going to make for a happy Lindsay. I don't play well when I'm not happy.''

Thats soooo funny! Especially as lindsay has just had the courage to take her trophies out of the "box(s)" in the garage...and put them on show in a corridor in the house...( a corridor not many people walk down mind!!! :) )

Man she must really love rotweillers! Im a labrador girl myself!

Why did Lindsay loose points after winning in Amelia Island? She shouldn't have lost points... I don't understand anything about this crappy ranking... Can't someone help me?

Last year she gained 353 and this year 304... she beat more seeded players, and certainly higher seeds, last year in Mauresmo, Petrova and Suarez plus she wasn't the world number one and ranked lower than Amelie.
