All Rights Reserved SPORT JASLYN Hewitt, the younger sister of former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, has quit the professional tennis tournament circuit to pursue other interests. Jaslyn, 23, has completed a course to be a personal trainer and is studying sports massage as well as coaching some friends and relatives in tennis. "It has been difficult to find a good masseuse to go deep enough," she said of her plans to develop her own business in this field in Adelaide. Jaslyn broke a bone in her right hand during the 2005 Australian Open in Melbourne and the injury has prevented her from flying to tournaments. "I cannot travel at the moment because of the pain I get when flying and I don't know if I'll play again," she said. "I haven't been approached to play tennis in the local pennant competition. "If I come back to tennis I'll have to make up my mind in the next 12 months." Her last professional tournanent was the claycourt event at Estoril in Portugal last April when she played in the qualifying of the women's singles. "I had not picked up a racquet for the previous two months and I was there with my former boyfriend Joachim Johansson (of Sweden)." Jaslyn had a first round victory of 6-3, 6-1 against Chrissie Seredni of the United States and then she lost in three tight sets against Melinda Czink of Hungary in the second round. She rated her victory in the $25,000 Challenger event in Canberra in 2004 as her best performance in a senior tournament. Jaslyn beat Evie Dominikovic of NSW in three sets in the final of this event after a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Evie's sister Daniella in the semi-final. After this title victory, Jaslyn was disappointed that she did not receive a wild card into the women's singles of the 2005 Australian Open in Melbourne. She played in the qualifying of this tournament and won her first round in three sets against Dominika Nociarova of the Slovak Republic but then she lost in straight sets against Elena Baltacha of Great Britain. A slip in the bath in Melbourne during this tournament broke a bone in her hand and helped bring her career possibly to a premature end. broncosven Aug 22nd, 2006, 08:49 PM Bugger !!
