I'm not sure if anyone has noticed this before, but so far this year, Venus has lost 3 times. And those three losses have been to players she has NEVER lost to before!

Australian Open vs. Monica Seles: 6-0 record previously

Dubai vs. Sandrine Testud: 5-0 record previously

Nasdaq-100 Open vs. Serena Williams: 5-0 record previously (If you don't count Grand Slam Cup)

Anything special about this stat, or is it just a coincidence?

It was a set up! She lost to Monica and Sandrine so that her favourite person in the whole world would know what is possible

As far as AO; she was just outclassed that particular day.

I agree with Seles.

Monica really took it to Venus that day. Even though people tend to use her injury as an excuse for her loss, it really didn't matter. She moved well enough to win the first set. Monica just outplayed her and stayed more consistent.

Yes, anyone can lose on any given day. People need to be appreciative of what their favorites win. And not take it for granted.

nobody's invincible now at the current WTA Tour. Top players need to exert more effort in order to avoid upsets.;)

I noticed that too, it atually started at the FO, Barbara Schett
then Meghann Shaughnessy at BWC........

I agree with Shane54, u can't take anything for granted,
especially grand slams...who would have thought Martina would be waiting 3 years for her next slam win

Yeah it's been up and down for Venus all year long.

But I suspect folks that she is not as healthy as she may appear to be. .......

wow violet i didn't notice that...so her last 5 losses have been to players she has never lost to before.. maybe Venus is being a little cocky? Probably not. Most likely just a coincidence.

But this stat does bode well for Jennifer Capriati the next time the two meet. I hope Venus will keep her perfect record against Jen though.

Well its v good to get a 5 or 6 wins against 0 losses so it had to happen sooner or later, they've just seemed to happen all in a row! (well, inbetween her many titles!)

No need to bring serena into this, she meant no disrespect to martina. The point was that the depth of tennis has grown so much in recent years, instead of hingis dominating all the time like in 97. Some people are just way too sensitive
