In the fifth largest tournament of the year, SERENA defeated the no. 1, 2 and 3 players in the world!

That is quite remarkable! ;)

Serena also did it at the us open 99 so she did it twice:D
I guess she and Steffi are the only two who did it:)
nice combination:D

I was just naming one of the "few players if any". Anytime I can get Steffi's name in a thread for accomplishment, I will.

SERENA is doing things that only the greatest player of all time was able to accomplish.

I don't think she did it at us open 1999. She beat 1 (hingis), 2 (davenport) and 4 (seles), but not 3 (venus). Hingis beat Venus that tournament.

Beating 1, 2, and 3 ranked players in the same tournament is a great feat for anyone, but Serena did it this week against the two top Big Babes in the world, and the #3 player, so my hat is off to her.

Congrats Serena!

Jen beat no. 1 (Hingis) 2. (Davenport) and 4/5 (seles) on the way to winning Aus 2001, I think.

im not overly sure about the seles ranking

okee I checked and Monica was indeed number 4 at the us open wich doesn`t make the achievement less impressing though:D
I wonder about something else is Serena record holder in beating the number 1 and 2 in a row?
it seems that she does it all the time when she faces them

Forgot to say thanks for posting Serena's victory picture, TeeRexx, too.:wavey:

Too bad we didn't get to see the ceremony, but I think the smile on Rena's face speaks for itself.:hearts: :hearts: :hearts:

And had a damn mighty fine body whilst doing so, but that's nothing to do with tennis (or maybe it is?!)

Congrats Serena.

Monica was no.4 seed at the Oz open 2001.

You kind of get the feeling that Serena would repeat this feat quite often if the draw worked out that way.

Of course, before long it would be impossible because she'd be ranked in the top three  .

Did Tracy Austin do it? Maybe not, she would have been at least the 3rd seed after 1978.

What an amazing feat!! Most players would be tired by the time they played the number 3 and number 2 players... but Serena made quick work of them and slugged it out with the number 1 in the finals and prevailed!! What a great achievement! :D

Go Serena!!

Must make it all the more frustrating that she's not your fave Mr Rexx, that your stuck with big sis. :p

You put all you eggs in the one basket, the wrong one. (Easter reference for you there)

Other more discerning, and smarter types, prefered Serena all along... :)

Serena, not Venus.

Not Venus, Serena. :)

Serena Williams - Williams sister of the future. Superior in every way to Mr Rexx's fave! :)

Bye Mr Rexx.

In Greek mythology there were creatures like Mr. Ba and they usually had to be dealt with somewhat harshly.

But, that is usually the fate of a harpie, I guess. :p

Bye, apprentice Ba. :wavey:

To be able to beat the #1, #2, and #3 players in a row, you can't be 1, 2, or, 3, so if Serena were ranked where she should be (top three), this wouldn't have been possible.

Where should she be ranked?
