I'm so proud to see that the tournament want Mary to be american and i hope the crowd will consider Mary as a compatriot

What a strong field in Amelia ... Williams's sisters, Davenport, Mauresmo, a lot of russian ... Kim and/or henin perhaps ...
We'll probably have great match and Mary will have to face great opponent ! Too good if she beats them

Mauresmo will not play overthere even if she reached the final last year.(amelia island)
No matter what kind of tournament she will play, the most important for me is to see Mary happy to play, and I still hope for Mary that she will reach the level of tennis she played in 2000. I don't know if she is still able to do so, but it's not a problem since Mary has done what she has always wanted to do in tennis. She won RR and the Australian Open, reached 2 other finals, the master's finals, 2 Fed cups. Wonderfull palmares!!! She does not need to show anymore that she is a champion. Everybody knows it!!! I am so proud that Mary decided to play for France!!!!

i dond understand what is wrong with the french press!
MARY proved more than once that her heart belongs to FRANCE,all her titles belong to france.
i am happy that she is french, maybe that is why she is so classy, she has got european written all over her!
but she never hid her american origins as well, and that is her strenght, always knowing where she is and where she is from!!!!!

To speak about Amelia, Just to say that there are 16 seeds and Mary could be one of them ...
Actually she's 11th for the moment : that's why she will have to face Molik, venus, petrova or Schnyder in her third round match (if she's always in).
If she's 13th or further ( not sure of my English ... !) so in that case, she'll have to face either Davenport or Serena or Dementieva (too easy for Mary in shape) or Myskina (too easy for Mary in shape).

So, what's the best ?!!

My favourite draw would be : 2 easy first round matches with 2-set-victories, a third round win against petrova (too easy :lick: ) and quarters against Myskina to be sure to be in semis
Semis against Davenport, 'cause i want to see a match between these two girls ! Both hit the ball very good, both dislike to run all over the court ... hmmm, it would be so interesting !

Well...its going to be a LOT of great players in the tournament i see...but as long as Mary keeps giving her all and playing her best...I don't mind what happens...coz its good that Mary still keeps working hard to achieve success....:worship:

She's still the best...she's a wonderful striker of the ball...and the clay slows down the pace so she will not have to move all that much to cover the court...her mental status is so brilliant rite now...she's relaxed and have nothing to prove...so I guess in the tournament we're going to see the best of Mary Pierce...:bounce:

Come on Mary!!!!!!!!!!!:bounce: :bounce:

Hi all of you!!!Clay is Mary's best surface for sure. It is not as fast as on hard. Thus she has time to prepare her wonderful and powerful shots. But the problem is that she has to patient and that is one problem of Mary, she has always wanted to shorten the rallies as soon as possible. And yet she made lot's of progress since she is more patient than before.
I have been one of Mary's big fans for more than 13 years. She is part of my life and without her tennis is not as good as with her...

She has a kind draw trough the first two rounds, Kostanic could be dangerous and then it's Serena, not fun.
But if Mary play her best and have fun she could be a real threat.

A very difficult draw for mary but in the same time if you want to win such a tournament you have to beat such players...I don't think that Serena will not be prepare, she doesn't need so much time to change of surface. Mary has to shorten the points against her since if they play many rallies, Mary will lose them unfortunately...
The most important for me is to see her happy to be on the court and to have fun. I am deeply convinced that our Mary beginns a new carreer different from the other one since shorter and different to the aims she has already reached.
Go Mary!!!!!!

 You know last year we were expecting Mary to be very very dangerous against Serena and finally she lost 36 16

This time it's different i think, beacause since Australia, Serena is not playing her best, and Mary knows it : Serena gave up in Paris, Dubai, and she lost againts Venus, who lost against Sharapova 64 63 (like Mary in Indian Wells ... :tape: ) ... So if Venus can do it against Sery, why not Mary ?

Unfortunately, if that's ok Mary can beat anybody, she also can lose against a so bad player (Cohen-Aloro is the best example) so first, we have to focus about her first match againts Daja, who lost in qualies in Miami against ... Cohen-Aloro (!!!).

but i know that if Mary plays like she did in Indian, she can reach very easily the third round, and there, nobody can predict the score

Pierce finds her feet on Florida clay
Tue Apr 5,

AMELIA ISLAND, Florida, April 4 (Reuters) - Former champion Mary Pierce made a confident start to the Amelia Island Championship on Monday, easing past Czech wildcard Daja Bedanova 6-3 6-0 in the first round of the claycourt event.

The 14th-seeded Frenchwoman, winner here in 1998, outhit and outclassed the world number 354 to set up a second round match with Eleni Daniilidou of Greece.

Having reached the quarter-finals at last month's Indian Wells event, the former Australian and French Open champion was full of confidence and Bedanova was unable to compete.

"I felt really good out there," Pierce said.

"I've been working really hard and it's paying off. I didn't play Miami and just practised for two weeks on clay."

Pierce was forced to pull out of France's team for the Fed Cup semi-finals at the end of last year because of a shoulder injury, which also kept her out of the Australian Open.

However, after returning to the tour in February, Pierce said she felt fully fit once again.

"I thought it would take me two or three months to feel good and it has but I was really happy out there today," she said.

"I love playing on clay and this tournament is just really relaxing for me. I have my mum and my brother here and it's just a lot of fun."

From www.wtatour.com
this sounds really great....

----------------

1998 champion Mary Pierce continued her impressive clay form on Wednesday, rolling past Greek wild card Eleni Daniilidou, 60 62. The former Roland Garros champion has breezed through the first two rounds of action, dropping just five games in two straight sets victories.

Pierce ran out to a 60 40 lead on Daniilidou before the Greek player grabbed a late break and held serve before the Frenchwoman closed out the match.

"Daniilidou has a big forehand and big serve, but she just wasn't hitting her shots today and that was giving me some chances," Pierce said. "She had nothing to lose in the second set and started to play much better, so in the end it started to get much closer."

Pierce left Amelia Island with the title in 1998 and was the runner-up at the tournament in 1996 and 1997. Last year, she fell in the second round to Serena Williams, who she could possibly see in her next match. Pierce is 1-4 lifetime against against Serena, but feels that she has stepped up her fitness in the last 12 months and that her game has improved because of her training changes.

"I think I'm a lot fitter and that has been the difference," Pierce said. "It's given me a lot more confidence and definitely helped my game."

Andy.

Mary lost to Serena in a tight match with 7-6(5) 6-4

Mary did have 5-1 in tiebreak, to bad she couldn't make it.

But a great tournament, I'm really looking forward to next week in
Charleston. Hope Mary can get a better draw there.

18 winners and 14 unforced errors...

I just hope you Mary had a great time out there and with this score
you cam see that you are close to the top-players. Just keep up the good work and look forward.

AMELIA ISLAND, Florida (Reuters) - Mary Pierce believes she could still challenge for a third grand slam title despite losing to Serena Williams in the third round of the Amelia Island Championship Friday.

The 30-year-old has struggled with injuries since winning the French Open in 2000, reaching just one grand slam quarter-final since.

However she showed enough in her 7-6, 6-4 defeat by Williams to suggest that she could still challenge for major honors.

"I know I can lift my game when I need to because I've done it many times before," said the Frenchwoman. "If I could have one more run at a grand slam, that'd be really nice."

Pierce has teamed up again with her long-term coach Nick Bollettieri in Florida, and the hard work she has put in is already showing signs of fruition.

Seemingly over the shoulder injury that sidelined her at the Australian Open, Pierce looked rejuvenated and close to her best for long periods against Williams, and only a strong comeback from the American denied her victory.

"There's really no secret to it," Pierce said. "I've been working really really hard to get my fitness level up, and it's paying off.

"Physically I feel great. I've just been working really hard with my brother (David), and with Nick. Nick's really excited, I'm really excited about it and I'm really enjoying being on the court again.

"There's still room for improvement, but in general I think I'm playing great and I feel like I can compete with the top girls. It's good to have a taste of it."

Though Pierce made her grand slam breakthrough at the Australian Open in 1995, when she beat Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain in the final, clay has always been her favorite surface.

If she is to have one more grand slam run, therefore, logic says it will be at the French Open where she still enjoys outstanding support.

"This (Amelia Island) is my first claycourt tournament and Roland Garros is definitely my goal," she said.

"That's six weeks away so it's very exciting. I've had a lot of great moments on the court and that's what motivates me, keeps me going."
