Mar 25th, 2005, 10:57 AM

Walked around the practice courts. Saw Golovin hitting with Safina. Talked to Dinara's coach. Both players are 100% healthy. Tatiana doesn't have a coach right now. Dinara's backhand was off and Tatiana's serve wasn't doing well either. Dinara got really pissed at herself and started throwing her racquet. After practice they were able to laugh it off though :)

Tati and Dinara could play some doubles together, looks like they're very good friends :D

Mar 25th, 2005, 12:41 PM
Two players at a similar level pushing eachother can only help their careers. Good luck this week Tati

T. GOLOVIN/A. Haynes
6-0, 6-7, 6-3An interview with:

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about the heat, the heat factor today. It's unseasonally warm for Miami. You went up 6‑0 and then...

TATIANA GOLOVIN: Yeah, I think it was really, really hot. I think it was 6‑Love in the first, but it didn't really feel like it was 6‑Love because I think our games were pretty tight and the set was pretty long. She made, I think, a lot of errors. And, you know, I was feeling all right, but I think at the end of the second set I was just way too hot. I had to call the physio. I was starting to get goosebumps. It's like 40 degrees out so...

Yeah, so I think it was a major issue. I think for everybody, all the matches, you can say that it was just really, really hot.

It's just great to get through a match like this because it just, you know, is a lot of mental strength and physical‑wise, too, so...

Next match was Tati vs. Angela Haynes. Tati looked smoking in her pink short skirt attire. We sat next to Angela's camp, who tried to be positive urge her on as she fell behind 0-6. This is the first time I have ever seen Tati play and I have to say that I was impressed. Pretty powerful groundstrokes and very consistent. Angela had problems with her serve in the first set but I guess she must have picked it up later to take it to 3.

from Amelie's post match interview:

Q. I had one question about Miss Golovin, a countrywoman. What do you think of her potential?

AMELIE MAURESMO: Well, you know, she's proved already a lot of things I think on the court. She's been playing pretty well last season, you know. She's hitting the ball hard. You know, she's a tough player. I think mentally she's pretty strong also. Still may be sometimes, you know, like when we say "junior," is like maybe she has to be on the right points more focused, focus on these points. But, you know, she's only like 17, I think. She's going to improve a lot. I think she has a lot of potential.

a nice article from todays Miami Herald. i'm looking forward to her clothing line at French!

Golovin the next big thing?

Seventeen-year-old Tatiana Golovin is the latest European women's tennis player to win over fans with her looks and win respect with her game.

She made her splash last year with a quick rise up the world rankings and short-shorts that would make a hand towel blush. Her game is only improving. Saturday, she advanced to the third round of the NASDAQ-100 Open with a 6-0, 6-7 (8-10), 6-3 victory against 20-year-old American Angela Haynes.

As of last week, she is the girl next door. Golovin just purchased a residence on Brickell Key.

''It's my home when I'm in the U.S.,'' Golovin said. ``I love Florida. My friends are here and I know the places to go.''

Golovin is very familiar with Florida. A French national who was born in Russia, Golovin moved to Bradenton as a 7-year-old and trained at the Nick Bollettieri Academy until she was 14.

Golovin is a 5-9 blonde who speaks three languages and loves the spotlight. Like Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova before her, Golovin is a marketing firm's dream. She plans to debut her new line of sportswear at Roland Garros in May. ''It's a secret,'' she said.

''She has the blonde hair, and the attitude and the potential,'' said Alain Deflassieux, a sports writer for the French sports daily newspaper L'Equipe. ``Mix it all together, and she is someone young who could be a very big star.''

Golovin began her tennis career in 2002 but didn't turn heads until the 2004 season. She jumped from a ranking of 358 to 27 in one year with fourth-round efforts at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. She advanced to the round of 16 in the 2004 NASDAQ-100 Open.

''She's proving already that she is a very good player,'' Amelie Mauresmo said. ``She's hitting the ball hard and she's going to improve a lot, but maybe she needs to be a little more focused.''

A great win for Tati. Maybe her best of the year. Too bad I can't root for her now that she has to face Lena D. Still I hope she plays well and if she wins and doesn't have to play Myskina she will be the player I want to win it all.

Mar 28th, 2005, 01:16 PM
Allez Tati, la revanche !!!

Mar 28th, 2005, 10:20 PM
it's fucking happening again! :fiery: Tati is down 0-4 in the 3rd after winning the 1st set! :fiery: :fiery:

Mar 28th, 2005, 10:38 PM
well she didn't choke this time ;) I guess Elena raised her level after losing the 5 games in a row in the first set...

Great tournament Tati!!! :woohoo: she won her first match against a top15, so we must be pleased with her effort this week in Miami. :D

when will be her next tournament? Fed Cup? or we'll have to wait until Rome?

Mar 28th, 2005, 10:41 PM
you bring up good points Tatiannaholic. she also defended her 4th round points, maybe her ranking will go up a little too. i'm still pissed about this match and really think a coach will help Tatiana out. shes too young not to have one, anyways bring on the clay court season!

Mar 28th, 2005, 11:07 PM
Good effort, maybe next time. I think next up for Tati is: Fed Cup, Berlin, Rome, French

Mar 28th, 2005, 11:39 PM
too bad about the loss, but congrats

Tati & Dani
Mar 29th, 2005, 12:02 AM
damn another loss to Dementieva

Mar 29th, 2005, 12:41 AM
Hopefully at her next tournament she won't have to face Dementieva.

Mar 29th, 2005, 01:56 AM
To Bad although a good point is that she is living up to her ranking even better than and she is consistant. She is slowly making steps forward and im confident that she can finish top 20 this year. By the way im looking forward to seeing what she will unveil for the French open.

Mar 29th, 2005, 09:43 AM
First of all, she seems to have difficulties to beat Elena Dementieva!!

I think that when a girl is playing Elena, she's to win in 2 sets (I'm sure Elena's got strong statistics on 3 sets victories). She's definitely a very shape and fit girls who is working hard on physical.

Concerning Tatiana's ranking:
Tatiana could already be a Top 20 player if she was playing more tournements. Since the beginning of the year, she's merely played the tournements where she'd played 1 year ago. And considering that she rises from 300 spots last year, that mean taht she did pretty well on every tournements she's been competing last year!

That's the reason why even if she got some good results here in Miami, she'll remain at the same ranking next week and she could even loose a couple of spots because of Justine and Kim come back!!

The other solution would be to play a couple of Tier IV tournements that she oculd win in order to earn more points than being on the 4th round or QF of bigger tournements.
But I think that Tatiana much prefer to play big events. May be for many reasons:
-the 1rst because she can face Top players and it's good for the experience.
-the others are more businesswise: i think that Tatiana's got a contract with IMG and they much prefer to see her play big tournements for the media impacts.

Mar 29th, 2005, 03:14 PM
tb Tati, good effort again. Keep on doing your thing :D
Wouldn't hurt with a coach though, at least part-time.

Mar 29th, 2005, 05:21 PM
It's a mixed feelings. Part of me feels that tAti should be wining these kind of matches this season and it's not the first time she lost after leading in the first set. The other part of me feels that she is doing a great job in getting to 4th round and beating the players that she's supposed to. So far her only bad loss this season was to Spears, the rest were really unavoidable. At least she managed to stretch 'em to three sets. Her time will come and with a coach it might be better.

Mar 29th, 2005, 05:25 PM
Rankings are really not big deals. Pretty steady in top 25. She's #24 right now, could go down 2 places the most depending how Kim and Justine fair. She's defending all her points from last season and her only big points to defend are from Birmingham and Wimbledon [and also Montreal].

Mar 29th, 2005, 05:43 PM
