It's ridiculous. Why every canadians have to be so inconsistent? It started great with Alekz winning a great A, Marie-Eve and Steph winning challegers, Sharon winning a grade A, and now they are all losing first or second round every week. It's typical and it's getting old. Now we have to wait till november for them to have good results, like every year.

Damn it Wozniak defeated Nicole Vaidisova easily 2 years ago and she was about equal strenght with Shahar Peer last year. Where are they now? In the top 100, having fun beating tour players and making good money. Where is Alekz? Losing first round in the JUNIORS to a french nobody....

It's just a pathetic day for me in Roland Garros. Everyone is losing.
At least Melanie did great for once!

I heard that Ola wants to represent Poland.

Is that true?

I would be surprised. I never heard about that here. She was born in Montreal and I don't think she ever lived in Poland. And it would mean saying good-bye to a wild card into a Tier 1 and a Tier 4. The only good reason would be if the Polish Federation would give her a lot of money. But they don't need her with the Radwanska sisters going strong.

Plus, I heard they offered a wild card into Warsaw to Caroline Wozniaki if she switched nationality. It seems like desperation to find good young players...

During Wimbledon clash between Radwańska and Woźniak, Polish media were full of something like this:

"Agnieszka will play against Ola Woźniak, our Polish girl, who know represents Canada but she says she want to play for Poland and she will do it."

For me it sounds very unrealistic because it's hard to find any reason of this.
Money? Absolutely not.
Wild Cards? Canada has 2 tournaments, Poland had 2 but now only Warsaw and I'm not sure it will be in future.
Maybe her parents' patriotism has aroused, I don't know

I'd like to see her playing for Poland even though we have many talented young players but it is never too much. :p My Canadian friends, It's no reason to worry, (in my opinion) she won't play for Poland.

I think it's another shit-talking by Polish media. If all those things were true we would have a half of NHL players, a quater of world class football players, 10% of NBA players and many many more (like Michael Klim). :retard:

I hope Ola (Polish short form of Aleksandra) Woźniak will become a great player in future and all Canada will enjoy it. :wavey:

she reminds me of a mini linds davenport. Good groundies, not as clean or as hard hit as linds though. Her serve is average and needs work along with her movement. Overall she is a good base liner that hits hard. When she is on, she can be a top 100 player, when she is off she looks like the 600 ranked player in the world.

Hello everyone. :wavey:

I'm watching the Stanford final between Aleks and Bartoli right now and I'm really impressed by her play! I've heard of her name for quite some time but never really knew anything about her or saw her play. She's shown some great defense, defense into offence with some great groundies, and a phenomenal backhand. Some of those angles were amazing. :bounce:

I could sort of tell, but I'm sure it'll be growing in time, especially after this impressive week from her.

I'm a tad surprised she hasn't been playing any of the clay court tournaments after Wimbledon. It would have been an easy way to secure some ranking points and improve her ranking. I suppose she is getting accustomed to the hard courts for her title defense in Stanford. I was just surprised she didn't play at least one of the clay tournaments as she was out of Wimbledon early. Regardless, I wish her the best of luck.

Well, Bali is for the 10 best ranked International tourmaments winners, exclusing those participating in the Doha tourmament (Top 8 in Race).

By winning Quebec, as now, she would be 6th best ranked International tournament winners, so she will probably do it if she wins Quebec (or Osaka or Moscow).

"Amélie was a great champion and I think we are all really going to miss her, especially the fans. She was a lot of fun to watch because not only did she do everything well, but she did it with flair at the same time. She was one of the toughest players to play against because she had all the shots, but it was a great challenge. It was an honor for me to play her in her last match, especially since we played on Arthur Ashe stadium court at the US Open - it was one of the biggest wins of my career and a very special moment for me."

Those would be bandwagon fans, but as phelbyn said she likes the clay a lot and has played exceptionally well on the clay the last few years.

I saw her match against Wozniacki at the AO and she really played great tennis, but on the crucial points she couldn't hang on. I'm not sure what has happened since then, but hopefully she can regroup for Miami.

Well, she beat Morita in Ponte Vedra. In 3 sets, 2-6 6-3 6-2. Judging from those very funny video blogs she and her coach did I would think she would be the kind of bright personality who attracts supporters, but I guess not winning much recently hasn't helped. She just needs a few good tournies to establish a fanbase, then after that even if she loses sometimes fans will still post, like they do for many slumping players.

Yeah she's a really outgoing girl. But as Wickmayer put it best last year, the best fans are the fans that will still support you when you aren't playing well. But she's into the QF today against Cibulkova. This could be a make it or break it match, and I really hope she comes out with an aggressive mentality and takes it to Domi. Still holding on to that lull, isn't she? She had a similar start to the year last year... missed a lot of early tournaments and won few matches in the ones she played. I think she's developing the habit of not getting off to decent start to the season.

I don't know whether she is actually less fit than before. I don't think she put on weight, and anyway, the match yesterday was over far too fast to assess fitness, I don't think either player was very tired at the end. I think she just looks like she is in very bad form right now. Couldn't keep the ball in, and Julia has been playing some good tennis recently.

The poor girl is on Tilt. Its getting to the point that one can get rich betting her opponent in every match. For the talent she has, she has to turn it around. Let hope this happens before she drops out of the top 75 and has to start qualies for even international series events. She only has a few more months of solid points left in her.

Good luck vibes in Paris

Steckley and Aleks had a good relationship, but game wise I don't think he was doing it for her. She has solid results for the 2nd half of the 2009 season, but 1st half of this year has been horrid. Hopefully the new coach can work on her technical issues and improve her fitness somewhat. Especially with 4R French Open Semifinal Eastbourne points coming off

I don't think it was Steckley's fault though, he's probably a very good coach. Obviously he and Aleks had, as you say, a good relationship, but with her recent struggles a change is understandable. Quite often with slumping players so much is in the mind and changing coaches is as much for the player's psyche as anything else.

A good run will probably put things right for her, either that or... well.

Tsvetana was actually a bad draw- she has had some good results this season.

Last year she was 9-11 before hitting the French Open, this year she is 7-11.
Not that much of a difference, however, her recent form certainly doesn't instill much confidence.

Iveta Benesova in the first round of RG... should be an easy win... if Aleks shows up to play. Could be an embarrasing lose... Good luck! Fingers crossed.

Benesova won Fes on clay in April, so she will be coming in with confidence. However, she is known to get tight in the majors. Aleks just needs to not put pressure on herself, and I think she will turn out fine. She does have a very tough draw though.

Actually she has a very good draw in Roland Garros.
She beat Benesova 63 63 so that is a great start to the tournament for her!
Kateryna Bondarenko is up next and she is just coming back from injury and still playing below her usual level.
So, the match is definitely winnable by Wozniak. We'll see how she does!!

Great win for Aleks! Seems like she has some inner confidence at Roland Garros as she has played very well here the last few years. Very winnable against Bondarenko, then a potential third round with Lena. But one match at a time, you can do it Aleks! :bounce:

Good win. Surprising that she seems to quite like the red clay.

Great numbers in her match against K Bondarenko, winning 64 61!
Into the third round against Dementieva.
Dementieva beat her with a bagel and a breadstick a few weeks ago...so she should definitely improve upon that showing!
